JEEP 392 REVIEW
Tag along as I give my long term review of my Jeep Wrangler 392 Rubicon Xtreme Recon. I’m 2.5 years and 33,000 miles in, bought at 900 miles old. I’ve been on numerous long road trips and hard wheeling trips. I’ve done a few upgrades, skid plates, inner fender liners, rock sliders and wheel spacers. Other than that, fully stock, naturally aspirated 6.4 hemi, stock suspension, no lift, 37s.
Bonus footage as I have to try to get my power steering pump issue resolved under warranty. Voltage drop while stationary and super stiff steering at slow speeds.
Tag along and comment below if you’ve experienced the same issues or have any questions!

Today on Over Yonder Off-Road I upgrade my rock lights to Lux Lightings newer lighting system! I’ve had the old kit on for 3 years, initially installed on my old Gladiator, and now replacing them with a brighter version. Follow along as I briefly show how I did mine and how you can expect them to look under your rig! If you have any questions leave them in the comments below and thanks for watc...

Hey brother whats up!! I can tell you why your Jeep is telling you your turn signal is out. The reason is your fender chop lights are LED, which your OEM turn signals aren’t. You are right, the turn signals arent bad and they dont malfunction, the only little annoying part is the message on the dash. To fix this problem you must get a programmer for your Jeep like the Tazer or Superchip. This device lets you program your Jeep to read LED lights amongst a lot of other options like tires size and gear ratios. Its pretty much a must when you start modifying deeper.
@@callsignpressure1872 yeah I had one for my Gladiator, just haven’t gotten around to it on this one 🤣 and this has the LED light package from factory, and it never gave that error message for a few months after install. It’s strange
Thanks for putting it out there

Looking at a guys Rubicon with a 392 in it not much room for anthing else uder the hood
@@JohnMoseleyMoseley it is quite snug in there!
Yet the jeep today are trash ..... yall city people make me laugh
Do I drive thru a city sometimes, yes. Am I from the city, no. This channel is literally called over yonder off road not in the city off road 🤣 check the channel out before leaving a low IQ comment
The worst thing is people know how much of a clown you are
That's pretty good, considering that's what my 4.0-liter Rubicon gets
@@DrewskisBrews it’s the highest it’s been in a while. Goes down very easily from here 🤣
So shut off the enging and let it roll slowly in drive
Or 1st gear or with clutch down
No manual option on the 392 package, only the v6
I think I know the answer, but why did you remove the wheel spacers before going to dealership.
@@carldrews7079 you know the answer 🤣🤣
Love my JL 392. I have a 94 YJ as well but my JL 392 is my daily and my weekend warrior
@@blakemarchand6650 nice 🤘🏽
I love the fact that you totally enjoyed 4wheeling in the backcountry with the top down and no door. I rarely see video of folks going off-roading with the top opened. The few friends of mine who owns the Wrangler and Gladiator have never removed the top. I told them they should’ve just stick with 4Runner or Landcruiser since that option is useless for them.
@@xyooj4ever best way to roll! I go doorless all summer and weather permitting, I always take the top and doors off on the trial 👍🏼
How much oil does your 392 eat between servicing? I've heard on average they consume about a 1/4 quart every 1,000 miles (especially when off-roading).
@@eriebrick early on I noticed it eating oil, around a quart at 5k miles. But around the 15k and 20k mile oil changes it has seemed to slow and almost stop. For instance right now I’m at 3,300 miles since oil change and it still is reading perfect
@@OverYonderOffroad I've experienced the same thing. My Rubi ate oil early on, but now I'm at 23k miles & its consumption slowed way down. My motor always runs a lot better after a fresh oil change; best Jeep I've ever owned.
Good review. With all the miles you’ve put on your 392, have you noticed any Hemi tick noises during cold startup? I’m surprised that you got the Ocala badge without pin-striping your doors up; that’s an 81 mile trail filled with overgrowth.
@@eriebricks2 thank you🙌🏼 it has always had a distinct cold start audio since day 1 but I wouldn’t necessarily call it the “hemi tick”. Once the cold start cycle is over it does smooth out and sound like a normal motor. I’ve heard of people using a heavier weight oil and it correcting this and also some people throw some royal purple in them and get the job done👍🏼
@@OverYonderOffroad392's never sound like normal motors to me; they're loud and clunky even when warm 😄
@@eriebrick they’re definitely their own breed 🤣🤣
I had a problem with my steering getting hot anytime I wheeled in temps above 85° or so. I’d get an alert on the dash that said the steering was hot and may have diminished performance. Overall, I really liked my 392, it was just not big enough space-wise for me. I needed a truck. If I was buying another, I’d definitely get a ‘24 just to get the power adjustable seats. I love the interior of JLs except for the seats. I can’t get comfortable in the driver’s seat. The problem is the angle of the seat bottom. It’s too flat. I think it’s ridiculous that they charge so much for a 392 when it doesn’t even have adjustable seat bottom angle (except for the new ones). I’d even be fine if it was a manual adjustment. They are indeed a fun vehicle, the sound of the exhaust note is mesmerizing.
@@ruggedindsoup2135 I hear that. I’m currently looking for a truck to tote mine around so I can start trailering it to far away wheeling destinations. And yeah the seat pan is flat, I know a company does have a “front mount lift” for the jeep seats that correct the flat position. But I’m with you, I can’t believe the seats stayed so basic. I can only think that they wanted less electronics where water could potentially get. (Rain from when doors off, high water crossings, etc)
@ yeah, I had the seat jackers, they helped but they lift the whole seat frame which lifts the driver up and puts your head really close to the top. Also, my wife who is short couldn’t drive it because it moved her feet too far from the floor.
Spacers size??
@@luar335 1 3/4 inch. That’s the least you can go without having to shave down your factory studs to allow the wheel to sit flush👍🏼
Very honest and to the point review. I just bought a 2024 - 392 and absolutely love it! It's also my daily driver and the best part of my day every time I drive it. Best vehicle I've ever driven and owned by far. 😁

What size of gearing does your 392 Jeep have?
@@GeneralG40 mine is the Xtreme Recon which comes factory with 4:56 gears 👍🏼 in my opinion I’m in no need for taller gears unless I went with bigger tires than my 37s
**additional upkeep cost; fuel. The 392 is computer tuned for higher octane fuel a.k.a. 91 or higher. 6:28
Hey what size tires are those? 37?
@@stevewilliams8806 yep! 37x12.50 on a 17” wheel
It’s a jeep not a G wagon LOL. I have a 21 Willys JLU 2.0 Turbo. I can say overall it’s been solid minus my drowning the first transmission in Florida at JB24 and then catching a tree branch which ripped off the transmission heater. Second new transmission installed. Did have metal cloak skid plate installed. Only thing as far as drive line goes only thing stock is the transfer case and the axle housings. You mentioned the Power steering pump. I’ve ran 37’s didn’t have issues with mine sometimes I get lucky LOL
@@richardmiller3808 funny you mention that, first reviews I started watching the guy was comparing these to a G wagon as far as big heavy boxy horsepower monsters 🤣🤣 But yeah you’ve had some bad luck in trans problems😅 And yeah i have had great luck thus far with every Jeep I’ve owned, this is my first ever issue. (Knock on wood) 🤣
@ I think we only mention G wagon because that idiot Carlos Tevares thought he could transform Jeep Brand into something it’s not. A luxury car brand. He single handily destroyed JDRC. I personally think that the brand will never be that same or recover. Throwing money at the problem isn’t the solution either to get sales. Build quality affordable products that get you sales.

Ya the oil change is key...I'm around 150 CAD per service even with stock V6 and highway wheels/tires. Cheaper than our Audi.
@@techonthemove yeah especially with a high performance motor you really want to stick to those 5k mile changes, not the % the vehicle says. So it can add up if you are putting down some serious driving time 😅
I personally know how strong the alluminum knuckles are (from an accident) so really curious what caused his to break? Mine broke when a 4500 lb car slammed into my passenger tire at 45mph and slammed it all the way back (outward against the stop). Funny thing is it actually bent my axle 1/8th of an inch before the knuckle broke.
@@JEEP-N-DIRT years of harsh off road abuse. Also had just broken an axle on that wheel end (u-joint) earlier on that trail and was trying to limp it thru in 3 wheel drive. That u joint exploding may have stress fractured that knuckle at the same time and we didn’t know, until we did 😅
