I was just diagnosed with moderate-severe asymmetrical hearing loss (age appropriate) and would like to know if you could recommend a hearing aid specialist, someone who shares your philosophy and expertise, in the Los Angeles area? Thank you.

It was very important to me to treat my mild to moderate hearing loss as early as possible as i am in so many high risk medical conditions. Treating my hearing loss is one of the more manageable health issues i have been diagnosed with. Mild hearing loss and dementia affects everyone in my immediate family. I also have been diagnosed with tinnitus, aortic abnormalities, high blood pressure diabetes and acute sleep apnea. Mu audiologist is highly qualified and is quick to address my concerns with my hearing loss and tinnitus and i feel very fortunate to have him addressing my hearing issues.

Problem is, you never know if an audiologist is recommending a brand which gives them the most profit, or a brand that is tied into their business in some way. I use Unitron, but I have no idea why my audiologist recommended them, and I have never compared them to any other brand.

I do not agree. It's all sales hype. I have up to now had two different types of hearing aids. And they are just very expensive little amplifiers. It's all just a rip off.

I think anxiety plays a role in my success with hearing aids and functioning in small groups. I know my anxiety does make a big difference in my tinnitus and when my tinnitus is very loud, my speech recognition goes down. battery life and low energy Bluetooth improvements are making life easier and semm to be rapidly improving.

The thing that puzzles me is background noise in one situation is not background noise in another. For instance an auto mechanic needs to hear what may be perceived as background noise by a chip. Defining background noise is a tall order that each situation dictates. I have severe hearing loss and tried hearing aids and found them more irritating than I cared for but it may be time to see what is if a suitable aids is out there now.

    • @dondgc2298
      @dondgc2298 2 місяці тому

Two thoughts. First, I think you’re questioning the value of hearing aids because of one unusual and very specific use case. Second, if you have severe hearing loss, you really should give hearing aids another shot. And if you do, commit to using them every day for a couple of weeks so you get used to them. I think - and hope - they will make a real difference in your quality of life. Just don’t believe the hype- background noise isn’t going to disappear and the “crowded restaurant” and “cocktail party” scenarios are real issues. But in almost all other situations you will find your hearing aids to be a big plus. Just my thoughts…

I have Oticon Real. I keep hearing about boosting those I want to hear and reducing those I don’t. I do not get that. The people at the table sound muted, while the background noise is amplified. I can tell what the conversation is with people sitting way over the other side of the room. I’ve had this result with Oticon More, Own and now Real.

I am a drummer, and just recently at the age of 71 and now afflicted with severe tinnitus and hearing loss and high frequencies. I need something to deal with the tinnitus as well as best as possible. However, my family reminded me that EMF‘s are a concern with Bluetooth hearing aids, so can you even get hearing aids without Bluetooth? And of course if you do, you’re not gonna have any control of your settings.

Is there any place in your environment that is not inundated with EMF from Bluetooth devices, wifi hotspots, FM radio signals, as well as the ever present low energy electromagnetic wavelengths left over from the original big-bang which are audible as static at the lower end of the radio band? Yes some early cellphones put out too much energy from their antennae. No, not every risk someone might imagine becomes real with the imagining.

Over the course of the days, i may receive phone calls from an iPhone, iPad, Galaxy A53 5G and a landline. I also have an Apple Watch. Sometimes, it’s still easier for me to let the caller go to voicemail than figure out how to answer the call. I am hoping in time this will get easier and i can answer in real time.

I investigated OTC hearing aids, even the new Rx types now on the market, but after having my hearing test results (moderate in one ear/severe in the other) and the various public conditions I am in during the week I realized I needed ones from my audiologist to ensure proper fit and performance. I'm willing to spend the higher cost to ensure maximum performance, and the follow-up for adjustments and even substitutions if needed that are part of the service. I just ordered them this past week and am looking forward to their delivery.

I know that there are android lovers and Apple lovers. Bluetooth has definitely been a game changer for me. It seems to connect my iPhone and iPad seamlessly. It’s a great improvement to be able to hear speech through both ears. It provides a lot more clarity for speech. I will have to upgrade my Apple Watch to be able to use some features. I am really new to all this technology and I still get flustered every time my iPhone rings and figuring out what device to answer.

I am in so many high risk groups, deciding to treat my hearing loss with hearing aids was a no brainer. Since 1974, Four members of my immediate family developed dementia and three had untreated hearing loss. Three have had heart murmurs. Two suffered from, obesity , type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. Three smoked. One had treatment resistant depression. Three hadn’t graduated from high school. Since most of my immediate family lived through their 90%, I plan to be in the category where less people develop dementia.

The ability to make changes to suit the client makes it easier to improve one’s performance and satisfaction with hearing aid use. Hearing aids are not like eyeglasses. Each individual hearing loss is unique. I doubt that a cookie cutter OTC device would work well for me. Also, i am not geeky enough to make optimal changes to manufacturer’s specifications. I had to watch 4 different UA-cam videos to be able program my Airpod Pros. I am more comfortable with assistance of a trained professional.

As Cliff said in the video, it's estimated that about 60% of individuals see a reduction in tinnitus levels with the use of hearing aids. We all hope that with advances in research and technology, a more effective treatment option will become available. We encourage you to stay tuned to HearingLoss.com! Agreed!!! Out of all brands I tried, Widex is absolutely the best for musicians,.. Widex is one of a kind with the hearing aid technology, plus any other features that all other manufacturers have,.. I feel like all other technologies are all extremely similar among every manufacturer and device, (at the same tier levels) except for the musical accommodations that Widex has

So true! I've tried every one of these hearing aids you mentioned and Oticon to me sound the most normal in tone. I'm profoundly deaf. However I'm still working out the kinks on the Oticon Real 1. 😊

@@dgangel7 Have you ever tried WIdex? I have never tried Oticon though, I have also heard mixed things about the Oticon from a lot of people. From What I have heard from most, Widex is usually recommended for musicians and is usually number 1 for musicians. Although some people say they have decent luck with Oticon or ReSound, but still say Widex is number 1 so, its a pretty hard question either way but thats the closest answer I have gotten so

    • @christee299

Would you say the difference between other brands and widex is night and day? If so, in what way? What kind of musical accommodations would you say widex offers? I'm going to be looking at getting HAs for the first time. I sing and play acoustic guitar. I'm no pro by any means, but I'm wondering if it's worth getting widex over, say, jabra enhance pro 20 from costco. My hesitantion is that widex is 4x the price! My concern is hearing my voice and other instruments correctly, so I can still sing on pitch.
