Welcome to Willow Brook Farms! Happy Bees; Healthy Honey!
We strive to bring you quality How-To videos that will enhance your knowledge of beekeeping, gardening, and homesteading. Our family has lived in upstate NY since 2001. Chris, the beekeeper of the family, has been tending the hives since 2013. We use foundation-less frames allowing the bees to draw natural cell size. We use no chemicals in the hive to provide (to the best of our ability) chemical free honey! We utilize feral, locally-sourced survivor stock to populate our hives.

Checking Splits for New Queens! #foryou #savethebees #honeybee #beekeeping #agriculture
You probably would have been able to do more if you wore some protection. Your sound also seemed to go away in the middle .
Pretty cool little bugs.😁I like the hive buckles.👍Congratulations on the honey.
Thanks 👍
The hive clips… they come standard with the Lyson Hives and are really quite nice
First time seeing your video. Combining bees with the word is a beautiful combination.
Thanks and welcome! It really is a fun challenge to try and make the connections between the creator and His creations!

Why you killing the bees?
We aren’t
@@willowbrookfarms Thanks! :)
Congratulations, nice looking honey frames. 👍Blessed Days...
Thank you! You too!
found a fly
So I never found the queen. I did find eggs and fresh larvae, I also found a hive with no queen so I added all the bees from the nuc to that colony, hopefully with the queen, and gave the nuc fresh eggs and worker bees to raise another new queen.
I'll pick them up and drop them in my marking container, I haven't tried holding them yet. Thanks for sharing, Blessed Days...
Thanks for watching, commenting and interacting! How many years have you kept bees?
Great job finding and marking your queens man.
Thanks for the view
Ooooo❤
Lol. Nice vid.
Nice new wax on that frame😁grats on the new queens.👍
Thank you headed back to the bee yard to check another five hives. See if they have queens.!
Yes, they like them at least mine did. Thanks for sharing your time, Blessed Days...
Thank you! You too!
Fun, fun.😁
I dont like it
I will take that as sarcasm and that you actually love it ❤😂
@@willowbrookfarms I haven’t even watched it, lmao. Take it as you want! :) much love and sarcasm
Update… the trap out did not work the bees found a way around the cone.
❤
Wait, what is it? Lol
I like the music with this👌
Didn't know there was a World Bee Day, I guess that figures we have a day or a month for about everything anymore.😂 😁Looks like it's a nice day for you and your bees though.👍
You should try a handful of hive beetles next. LOL!!
Honeybees pollinate up to 2/3 of the food we eat so we need protect their environment and reduce our use of chemicals.
Wow!
Update: the bee tree absconded before we could rehouse it in a regular hive.
so cool!
Happy anniversary to you both! God bless!
😀👍
Where was this?
I think this was in Kentucky near Cumberland Falls
All ways a plus saving bees.👍
'Promo sm' ☹️
Probably should order the nucs now. 😁😁😁
I see you have two brood boxes, but you only applied the API life var to the one brood box. Then I saw you put the super back on that would have honey. Am I correct in what I observed
Partially… so the apilifvar only needs to be applied to the top brood chamber, 3 of my hives are 8 frame medium equipment and therefore need 3 brood boxes. This may be what you are referring to. The distributor says not to use with honey supers on, the manufacturer says it is fine as long as you don’t harvest with in 2 weeks of last treatment… so I used without the supers
try this with my bees mate and you would be a pin cushion.
They looked like they didn't need any saving lol
A late season swarm moved into the barn; without being moved into a hive and given a box of bee food on top they surely would starve before spring. Sometimes bees need saving from themselves, just like people sometimes need saving from themselves
Does ApiLifeVar shut down the queen for a period of time? And, did you do a mite check first?
My understanding is the only down side is it can force bees out of hives for a period during high temps, but doesn’t shut down laying. Last mite check had 0% mites but a week later I could see mites in the phoretic stage( riding on the backs of adult bees) so I treated
😁Love me some Gospel👍Nothing like the Good New of Jesus.
Sorry but you are giving out too much bad information. New Beekeeper should not watch this video. SORRY Not a worker laying problem. You have a mite problem. You see the mites now, because you have no capped brood, Most likey you killed a good Queen. You also placed a mite infested frames to another hive. No capped brood, you should had treated that old hive.,
While I understand it is easy to say oh it’s mites. If you have been following along, I may have even mentioned it in this video, I just did an alcohol mite wash on my hives less than two weeks ago and had zero mites. I am seeing phoretic varroa mites because there is no brood, because the queen stopped laying, due to the queen not laying at least two workers started laying. How do I know this? By careful observation I was able to watch two workers lay eggs in different cells. When I first noticed the issue I came back a few days later and the hive was significantly decreased. While I’m open to different opinions of what May or may not be happening. The information I give out is based on observation of the actual hive as opposed to sofa quarterbacking.
Yes, when you did the wash was there capped brood? Mites love capped brood. ( Low count because of capped brood, maybe?) If no brood than the mites will find a bee, Laying workers will not lay if a Queen is present. @@willowbrookfarms
@@daisyshoney6021 I hear what you are saying, but the alcohol wash is the most effective test with or without capped brood. There are very few times in a colonies life that there is no capped brood. As far as treating- right after combining the hives they were treated with ApiLifeVar… an upcoming video goes over that process. Please subscribe and follow along. It is always good to hear others thoughts on what could be happening.
Many Beekeepers are using Dawn detergent now. Both are good @@willowbrookfarms
If the queen is new it could be the queen learning how to lay
If that queen had pheromone that is worth saving, then they would not be laying worker. If she was a threat to them she would be dead.
Perhaps… waste not want not though
Also do you think that could be why I had a queen and a working layer? Her pheromone just wasn’t strong enough anymore to suppress the workers from laying?
@@willowbrookfarms I felt like you had a drone laying queen until you said there were multiple eggs. With visible mites could you have been seeing the white remnants of mite droppings.
So peaceful
I’m so glad you find some solitude
I see you suited up for this inspection....LOL!!!
I let the bees dictate what is necessary for the day. Some days they ask me to walk away, some days they “beehave” 😅
Camera to far back wanted to see how you got bees not you shaking a jar
It is difficult, when working from a fixed tripod, to capture everything. Sorry I missed that part, however basically you hold the frame with nurse bees perpendicular to the ground and just run the white cup up along the frame scooping the bees off the frame while trying not to squish any
i wuv chickens
they sure are fun
Good stuff brother!
Thanks! Coming from you I take it as high praise!
Absolutely love "the march"!!!
truly amazing
628 Dirt Rooster says "smoke'em til their eyes water! Good stuff, Pastor!
nice
Poor family..too few bees to survive
Quite likely, however if the queen starts to lay( I will be checking in a day or two), I have some other hives I can add a frame or two of brood and nurse bees
