There's some interest in Mississippi River flooding, so I post this short video from June 8, 2024. The river level was around 15 feet, about 2 feet below flood stage. This year's flooding has been mild so far.

Thanks for these park videos, they are bringing back some of my best childhood memories. I would always walk the trails while my dad fished.

Fun Fact: The lime plant that's a mile or 2 up the road from this park, was using dynamite to mine the lime. Well, they ended up using a bit too much one day. Imagine 5 ton rocks raining down on the park and surrounding areas. This happened in the early to mid 90's (this story came from my father who grew up 5 mins from the park and his best friend who worked at the lime plant and also lived by my Dad.) I basically grew up at this park. Literally spent every weekend here cause it was a whole 5 minutes from the house and free (for context this park and our house was 20 mins from the nearest gas station, "out in the sticks" as my Dad would often say).

Didn't this place flood the other day? I saw videos of water so high the 'big rocks' were completely submerged and the parking lot no where to be seen. Grew up between Glen Rose and Cleburne, but I moved out of Texas about 5 years ago. Spent many summers there climbing the rocks, swimming, and sliding down the dam. I also obtained the worst sunburn of my life there. 😅

I see that on October 26 Glen Rose got over 8 inches of rain. That would definitely cause flooding. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I think it's been there for a while. Looks like they will need to paint another record flood level on it after the water goes down.

Our family always had our reunions right across the street in the park so all the kids grew up playing on those rocks. The dam just upstream from there is not part of my memory. I don’t know when they built it. The rocks were what were important to us.

If I had to guess, 20 years or so? I'm currently 25 and distinctively remember a time when that specific dam wasn't there as well. I remember there were 2 crumbling (probably made of lime) brick walls about 50'-40' apart. I think the wall that was further up became the base/foundation of the current dam you mentioned. You can actually see some of the remains of the first wall down in front of the dam (though they are severely deteriorated). I remember jumping off 1 of the walls into the area in between the 2 because it was deeper there than anywhere else. Then, in later visits, I would only ever slide down the dam and never jump off again because my Dad was afraid of the currents being generated by the dam would suck me under. (Back when the place had water, of course.)

Coming from someone who grew up there: No, because that spot was dry/stagnate 90% of the time. This spot is the runoff from a lake, and the area around the lake (for several miles out) is made of limestone which does not absorb water. Think of it like filling a bowl with water in your sink. Water will only pour over the sides while the tap is on. Similarly, if it did not rain the day before or the day of there was no runoff occurring there. In 2015 or 2016, there was a horrible storm and tornado that actually ripped through the area. The flooding was horrible, half the park was under water. The flash flooding got so bad that the creek feeding that lake washed out the roads behind the park in the residential areas. One woman's house got demolished by the creek turned river. Her place was wedged between the bases of 2 hills. The people that lived a bit above her lost quite a bit of livestock. I remember when my family went down to help clean up the park. Chunks of someone's house washed up on the banks along with whole goats and cows. Volunteers were scared to get near the dead aminals because they had become so bloated. No one wanted to get popped on.
