    Bulldogs should not be in existence because of their deformities and breathing difficulties, not to mention all the other maladies that come with the breed. I'm also not even mentioning the hordes of scumbags who will seize upon the chance to make a fortune by puppy mills and backyard breeding schemes. If any breed has so many things wrong with it, then it's quite obvious that it will be cruel and unjust to continue with the experiment. To do so is mercenary at best, or utter arrogance at worst. Just saying.

    Our 8 week old just had to have surgery on her nose and also a procedure done on there throat as the vet said that their pallets are often to long and can cause trachea to collapse, also had surgery for cherry eye. Still waiting to see if she will require surgery on her vulva as many females are receded and need to be clipped to expose and avoid infections later in life. This must also be pulled back and cleaned Dailey as well as cleaning their bottoms after each bowel movement since they can not reach themselves. Ummm also look for a corkscrew tail that inverts the tip of tail will likely require surgery later as tail grows inward causing sores and infections. These dogs are no joke and yes they are cute but I do curse breeders that perpetuate these poor animals. My husband really wanted one, other wise I would have given a good home to a rescue ( we already have 5 large rescues) or donated the funds to help animals in need. I LOVE HER YES!!!! But just seems like a painful existence just to try to be normal. They are completely dependent on humans. Again LOVE HER AND RELIZE NOT HER FAULT AND WILL DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO KEEP HER HAPPY AND HEALTHY. just some more” realities” on Bulldogs

In actuality we found that it wasn't bloat but her heart she had cardiac arrest, she would become winded even while standing there eating her food and we knew something was wrong and it was not repairable, she was simply at the end of her life cycle and I miss her terribly. Thank goodness I am hundreds of pictures and dozens of short videos of her playing in the snow running around and hanging all that crazy stuff they do, those things keep me going and keep me smiling although it can be tears and smiles at the same time go figure that.

    You need to know waaaaaayyyyyy more than this. Vet bills are high. You'll struggle finding a vet that knows what they're doing. If the response regarding bulldog knowledge is "Oh yes, we see lots of bulldogs here", keep looking. You'll spend a lot of time caring for your bulldog, especially their feet. Poor care=higher vet bills. You have to wipe the dogs butt. If that's a problem for you, pick another breed. Gassy. Snoring. Not heat or cold tolerant. Bulldogs are not "outside dogs". Anyone who says that they are doesn't know what they're talking about. Hope you like woodworking, you're going to be building a lot of ramps. Slow to housewares, and separation anxiety urinating is common. Replace your carpet with hard surface flooring. Common medical issues: Feet- cysts, usually from ingrown hairs. Your vet will teach you how to care for them. Embedded objects - If you don't check and clean your dog's feet daily, you'll be paying for surgery. Anything from grass seeds to rocks can become embedded. Also prone to yeast infections. A malacetic flush helps. So does providing your dog a pillow so they don't rest their head on their feet. Allergies- do the skin test, not the blood test or you'll pay twice. Delicate digestive system. Tail pocket infections and daily care. Ask the vet for care instructions. Teeth- keep them clean or else. Breathing problems usually involve the nose, throat, or soft palate, usually require surgery. Hip displaysia- expect it, it's likely. Quality glucosamine and chondroitin supplements will save you money in the long run. Ears- infections are common. Learn how to care for them. Eyes cherry eyes and eye lash problems are common and usually require surgery. It's a good idea to have your dog's heart, hips and back tested right away for preventative care. The xrays and tests will be expensive, but will likely save you a lot of money and grief later. Skin- clean the skin folds daily with a malacetic flush or other cleanser. Do NOT use water. I can't stress the importance of keeping your dog clean and dry enough. It'll make all the difference. Weak trachea - never put anything on their neck that tightens. Jerking on their collar is courting trouble. Many spook - no fireworks, guns etc. Quirks- many have strange quirks, you'll get used to it. Neurotic- LOTS of unethical breeders in the world who've contaminated the breed by breeding dogs they shouldn't have. Psychological issues often manifest in behavior such as extreme shy/sharp biting, eating and extreme separation anxiety. Puppies- don't take a dog from a breeder that's less than 8 weeks. Older is better. They need to learn from their mothers how to be a dog. Especially about housebreaking. Always tour the breeding facility. If the breeder won't let you, or if you get the feeling that they're hiding something, they probably are. Don't buy. Check with shelters. There are 2 bulldogs at a shelter in my area right now. Check in other cities as well. They are there and get euthanized just like other dogs. Adopt an adult - they're just as fun as puppies and less work. Lastly, always get expert MEDICAL advice - not the crap out of bulldog forums. Be prepared to drive long distance for a quality vet. I highly recommend the Dermatology dept at VRCC in Denver. It's worth the 9 hour drive. I own 3 bulldogs and foster them. Best of luck.

      That's a long list. You should have done a video lol. One of my dogs is nosey she likes to go outside. And it's hard to get her back inside, but we don't leave out very long she seems to like lying in the sun which is weird. And omg you told the truth about puppies I feel like we have a set of triplets. Too much work.

      Adventure One All of those problems are more likely if you don’t get a purebred, my bulldog doesn’t have all of those problems, she’s very healthy. About outside part, I was talking about people who think they can leave their bulldog in dog house outside of the house. And also they aren’t build for long walks because they get tired very fast.

    • @Arckivio
      @Arckivio 5 років тому

      All of the above! My girlfriends bulldog does gets cherry occasionally but it can be massaged back in. Obviously if it can't, it'll need surgery. He's 8 years old now & only real problem was a bad ear infection. After she spent a fortune on local vets we drove 2 hours to a bulldog specialist who said it wasn't that bad & she was being prarnoid. Did the allergy test & he was allergic to just about everything LOL. Maybe it's just me or what I've seen but sticking a dog in a cage seems to be mainly an American thing? If you have to shut a dog in a cage, get a fucking goldfish, or better still, don't have pets. Hers ate the corners of my walls so I covered them in stainless angles. I'm not a dog lover as I prefer cats but she is mad about him. I suggested boarding kennels the other day for when she goes to Hungary at Xmas rather than me having to wipe his arse & she burst into tears!!! Seems I'll be babysitting, handfeeding & wiping his arse again!!!

    2:25 This more comes down to the dog. When I first got my boy from the shelter he was kept in a cage his entire life and was abused so we only kept him in a kennel when absolutely necessary for the first few weeks we had him until we trained him. It was to heart breaking putting him in a kennel because of his past. Now 6 years later and he literally just sleep all the time. The only thing he has every destroyed was a remote and a little chapter book and that was when we first got him. So just keep this in mind

    This is probably the least informative "need to know" I've seen. Here's a small fraction of the critical information you need to know when deciding whether to purchase a bulldog: 1. If your plan is to buy a dog and start a backyard breeding operation to make money, you are a dumbass. Don't own any animal, especially one that is high maintenance. 2. If you flinch at the price of buying a bulldog, or have to save for months to buy one, you're not financially able to support one. Depending on the type, number and severity of their health problems the average medical expenses can run a couple thousand to$5,000+ annually. To not expect health problems is naive. To not be prepared and able to pay is irresponsible. 3. Kiss your vacation time goodbye. You'll be using it to take your dog to the vet. On the bright side, if your dog needs to see a specialist in another city, you get to go on a road trip instead of just across town. Kiss your free time goodbye too. When not busy learning how to care for your bulldog, you'll be spending your time applying all those newly acquired skills. Those nose ropes, paws, ears, wrinkles and tail pocket aren't going to clean themselves. 4. Bulldogs are like 2 year old children that never grow up. You'll spend the next 10 years, if you're lucky, wiping their eyes, nose and butt. Better get comfy with dog butts, you'll be spending a lot of time with them. Miss a wipe and you'll have poop smears and doggy snot on the carpet, furniture, etc. 5. Open a Home Depot Pro account and start watching those DIY shows. You're going to learn woodworking! You'll spend many a Saturday afternoon building ramps and crates. And don't forget to modify those steps for short legs. Of course, you can buy all of these items ready-made and pay a carpenter to modify the steps. If you have the money.... 6. You're self-improvement quest will soon include extensive knowledge of bulldog anatomy, illnesses and care. Good luck with that. 7. It'll also include learning how to clean efficiently. Bulldogs shed, splatter saliva when they shake their head, smear poo when you forget to wipe them and are generally a bit smelly. Better like doing laundry. And cleaning the car. 8. Goodbye clean carpet. In addition to being smelly and messy, they're frequently incontinent. Even in adulthood. Anxiety is a common reason, and they may not be able to overcome it. Ever. 9. If you're not already a homebody, you soon will be. Bulldogs require a LOT of attention from their people. But that's okay. You won't have the money to go out anyway. 10. Get ready to get your Sharper Image/QVC/Woot on. Gadgets are your new friend. Bulldogs are temperature sensitive and finding ways to keep them cool in the summer and warm in the winter will enhance your creativity and allow you to power shop. Don't forget the GPS in case they're lost or stolen. And you'll need a large size stroller. Bulldogs are sedentary beasts. A walk to the mailbox is a 5k run in their world. 11. Prepare to be be very patient. Bulldogs are eager to please. Most of the time. Displays of temper by their human is upsetting for them. It takes a lot of self control to not yell when you've spent your Saturday morning cleaning the carpet only to find fresh urine hours later. Also, you'll encounter many vets who "see lots of bulldogs" but don't have any formal training on the breed and minimal understanding. Having your money wasted, or worse, your dog's health jeopardized by one of the these vets will test your patience and self-control. 12. Better love your car. You're going to be driving it for a looooong time. 13. Prepare to have your heart stolen. The love you'll feel for your bulldog will make all those sacrifices seem trivial. Mom of 3 bulldogs.
