So You Want to Be a Rock 'n' Roll Star

Did you ever know Rose. She was there around that time. You know she was the only Rose there. Yea. I made two westpacs 75 to 78. I would hide on the upstairs of the American Legion balcony behind the chicken wire and watch the circus. If they wore white socks they were clean.😮 Right!
I was there 1980-84... Loved it...
Nice little video thanks for the memories i was there in those years also Clark plenty of bars and lovely girls.

Should try to tell people what it was like in the 70s that were there in the 80s.
I was stationed in Okinawa with VP-44 and visited Cubi Point regularly from 1978-1979 flying Anti Sub missions in the South China Sea, somethings never change. It was Marshal Law then with MP's everywhere..took many a trikeney/jeepney rides..Anyone remember the Riza hotel at the end of the strip? No available on base quarters so they sent us out to live in town. Stayed a Riza hotel and commuted in by jeepney every morning and evening for 3 months. How about Club JOLO...lot of absolutely wild and crazy things in there and the bands that played on that strip were unbelievable. Thanks Ray Congrove for this awesome video.
US Naval Air Station Cubi Point 1978-1979 Best time of my life...hands down
Every time the USS Midway task force pull in, the whole city was wide open and in festive mode..was aboard USS Parson DDG-33 stationed in Yokusaka JN 1977-78.. we would come down to Subic every 4 months..

Was there in 1962 aboard the USS Bigcock, had a great time
Look at all the American made cars they drove there back then.
Anyone out there from the Sterett, 76 - 78? How about OPM 80-83? What about the Hoel DDG-13 83 - 86. I was on the Cochrane DDG-21 from 86 to 89. Then I went to the Rentz, FFG-46 and retired.

I deployed for the very first time as Navy Corpsman with Echo company 2/1 3rd platoon on board the USS Tarawa LHA 1 to Olongapo Philippines in 1986 when Marcos fell and if I'm remembering correctly the whole area was placed under Martial-Law by the local authorities and there was even a murder victim who was found stung up by the neck hanging from the Statue at the end of Magsaysay Drive...
USS Piedmont 1970.
Was in & out of there 89-92 USS NIAGARA FALLS AFS-3 2/89-2/94 HP-GUAM M. I. Was just back their PO CITY 12/22/22 till 1/22/23 and then back again 5/11/23 to 5/22/23. Visited the American Legion Post 4. Magsaysay is much cleaner. Alot of changes but never the same. Not the same as before. Hit down to Barrio Barreto. Hung out a few bars and walked down the road from the Arizona Resort to THE HOT ZONE.
If you listen really closely you can hear Summer shrieking in the background 😂 "speaking to the atmos--WHAAA!"
I was there for the 1st time in Nov 1979 TDY. I had so much fun that I probably should have been arrested.
Was there in 77 , John S. MaCain broke down and in the shipyard for 8 months. I love you no shit, Olongapo
A place I remember from my youth, when I was a seaman aboard the USS Parsons (DDG 33). We picked up a boatload of Vietnamese refugees on our way back from an IO deployment and dropped them off here. Always wondered what became of them. Memories of that place and the fun I had there whenever our ship made a port stop there continue to haunt me to this day. Thank You, Lord, that You are merciful and forgive us the sins of our youth.
Met my wife there 1981, still married 2023!!!
Gray video. I was there this weekend. S&R mall at the foot of the bridge which is now closed. The city feels the same but seems much cleaner. They also enforce traffic laws there like in the US as I found out Sat. Police asked if I was a sailor and when I explained why I returned he gave me a fist bump and said carry on. I hope you made it back.. I did and never returning to the US.
In and out from 1974-1977 permanent personnel 1977-1981. Still with my Filipina since 1975. Were growing old together.

I was a Marine stationed for a year in Okinawa , Japan . I turned 20 on Dec. 6th 1980 2 days later Lennon was murdered . Ten days after that .y Battalion was on a Navy ship for a tour of the Far East . First stop , The Philippines . It was an experience I will carry with me to the grave . Beautiful Fillipinas , San Miguel beer , and Mardi Gras . I fell for a Filipina girl who I lived with for a good part of February 1981 . She wanted me to go to the Island she grew up on and start a family . Although I was crazy about her , I knew I would never go A. W. O. L. I was dedicated to the Corps ! SEMPER FI !
Outta sight
I shutter to think what happened to the girls after they closed in 1992. I should have saved one girl. She could have saved me in return.
I was there then 7 times between 80 and 82. No place like it in all the world.!
