Painting HOLIDAYS memory: a GREEK island's cove 🌊
In this video, I bring you on an Greek island where I spent a few days end of summer. The serene atmosphere and the beauty of the place inspired me to watercolor the cove's view that I could see from the window of my hotel. I don't paint often landscapes and I definitely should do more of them! I really enjoyed using my Sennelier watercolors and I promised myself to use them more in the future since the colors are really vibrant!

I just watched your video again ... I LOVE your intricate lovely drawing and all the beautiful cross-hatching!! You are so very good with all the tiny details ... the window and torch are so great!! You asked who we thought she might be ... I think perhaps a very sweet curious girl who found a mysterious map in one of her fathers old dusty library books ... that will lead her to solve an ancient family or castle mystery ... or perhaps she is a beautiful young artist named Guilaine who is carrying her sketchbook around to record the amazingly awesome & beautiful rooms in the castle 🙂 I also LOVED seeing some of your other sketches in the beginning of the video in your sketchbook!! Ohhhh my goodness, Guilaine!! This is GORGEOUS!! And what a GREAT tutorial!! THANK YOU for sharing all your insight into color ... color is SOOO perplexing to me ... but you explained it so well! You did SUCH a GORGEOUS painting!! I LOVE your dusk light ... and how the light falls on her. I love how you painted her hands and feet ... especially her left hand which seems like it would have been a very difficult pose to paint ... I also like how the ties on the back of her dress come down and fall onto the ground ... it helps to settle her on the ground ... Just LOVE this painting and tutorial!! <3 I can't even imagine what you will be painting in a year from now, if you have only been painting a year to be able to do this GORGEOUS painting already ... <3

WOW, Guilaine!! What a BEAUTIFUL job you did with a very difficult subject!! ... Doing hatching is very difficult in itself ... but you did it sooo well even with adding areas of light through the trees ... bark on the tree ... grass ... and scenery and water in the background!! Amazing!! I love the old fashioned look of the hatching style ... I've put small amounts of hatching for a few shadows here and there ... but have never done a whole drawing with it ... Amazing and BEAUTIFUL!! <3

Was so much fun and interesting to watch your visit to the AMAZING art store!! I LOVE that it is built into an old house! I recently purchased a small set of the Turner Gouache on Amazon (since we moved recently our closest art supply store is 1-1/2 hours away! ... THANK GOODNESS for Amazon!!) after your recommendation and like them VERY much. Your oil pastel painting is beautiful!! I LOVE your drawings so much ... and am always in awe of how you capture the light so beautifully! I would like to try oil pastel ... but I'm almost certain I wouldn't have the patience that you have with all the blending! I do like your blending tool ... and it seems quite helpful to you. @@jayne3944 Hello Jayne, Oil pastels are really not that intimidating. Some artists really prefer them over watercolors or gouache since you don't need water or brushes. You can immediately paint with them. You should have a try. I' m sure you will love it. Thank you again for this always nice comments on my videos!

It seems it would be especially difficult as you said to get the fresh highlights and details onto wet paint ... and stepping back for a day to then look at it again would seem quite important to me ... @@jayne3944 I thought at this time that Alla prima meant in one go..but I'm not sure now. I think All prima can be also made in many days... as long as your oils are not dry on the canvas 😊 This painting could have been improved if I worked more on it...

Sennelier is very famous in France and Europe. I really recommend you their art material..but it is a bit expensive...

I have some of the Caran d'Ache Neocolor II water soluble crayons and love them so much that after you draw with them you can put water on them to turn them to watercolor ... have you ever tried them? ... <3
I never tried them but I should. Indeed, I heard that they are great. Thank you for your advice!

@jayne3944 Thank you! 🥰 Oil painting is really a roller coaster type of art. You think sometimes that everything is going wrong, then suddenly it starts to go better and you manage to get somehow a decent result...
Ohhhhh my goodness!!! I watched your drawings of this as well as this video of you painting ... and I am in total awe that you were able to manage all the details and not get lost in all the perspectives etc!! @@jayne3944 Dear Jayne, many thanks. I have to say, it was probably a bit ambitious and it could have been probably better. There are few details that I could have done better. But it is definitely this type of imaginative and story telling paintings that I'm drawn to and that I want to improve. Again many thanks, it encourages me to continue ❤
