Just because there are little range in the mix doesn't mean it will be good to take in cav phal/wedge because as you know range does insane damage to cav and while most of the enemy inf is stalling time it give the range a lot of time to damage your cav. And of course due to the nature of heavy inf in the rally the only option is inf wedge/phalanx. I believe you would have capped him with that

against mix i recommend inf phal and ask for t5 cav reinf

I suggest taking full cavalry reinforcements when expecting a mix rally but your take was good everything considered btw
