Workshop tour and tidy. Plus big news for the channel.
it was interesting seeing you do it but I'm not a fan of the color choices... I liked the original.
I was about to buy the 120v because it was cheap but it has a bad rating, looking closely I realize that the 60v has a better rating although I don't know if it is the same.
I tell my son it's my Casio Cubitus.
Haha. Is the Cubitus an AP? A few quid more than this undertaking!
How do you combat static and shock?
In all honesty, I don’t do anything. It’s not a big system so it’s easy to blow dust off now and then. I’ve never had a shock from my setup. I can’t remember who did it but one of the bigger UK based woodworking UA-camrs I think, did a video diving into how necessary anti static measures are in a small workshop. Their finding was that it isn’t really needed and many of the go to solutions aren’t actually very affective. So being a bit lazy, I decided that was excuse enough not to do it.
I liked it better before the mods, 😊 lol..
Yeah it’s still a great watch unmodified, but that would have been a much shorter video. Basically “hello, look at this nice watch, bye”. I do like how versatile it can be though. You could have a 1200 for every occasion!
Nicely done! Slick looking update. Creating with limitations, i love it!
Cheers dude. It’s so frustrating being in between workshops.
What a fun little detailing/upgrade project. Turned out sweet. After almost fifty years of steady alcohol consumption something like this is beyond my capabilities. Those little screws would have ended up in the vacuum cleaner and the watch in the bin, I'm sure. :-)
Thanks. Sorry to hear that. Maybe a wall hanging clock mod would be an option?
Classic upgrade.
Thanks very much.
That actually turned out alright, nice transformation.
You sound surprised 🤣🤣
Happy New Year.
To you too!
You talk about sharpness - is it actually possible to sharpen these things, and if so, how would you go about it?
Good question. I guess sanding the face on a flattening plate of some sort would work but you might loose the text over time. Im only going to get light use from it so it should last a good amount of time before i need to sharpen.
@@CaptainofmyShed Thanks! By the way, I don't think you're a cock at all :) Keep up the good work!
Never thought I'd see a Bohemian-looking Stone Cold Steve Austin unboxing a plunge saw in 2025 😅😃
Haha! That’s a new one on me. I’ll take it though!
This is a really neat little bench, and I appreciate the budget nature as well. Do you have plans, or is it all just from an idea and a sketch?
I did at one point have a cut list but no I don’t have plans sorry.
Sorry to hear about your house sale issue. Our system seems to be designed to cause the maximum possible hassle and stress for the minimum amount of houses that change hands! Hope 2025 brings a good resolution...
Yep it’s not exactly designed to aid the process of selling houses is it. Fingers crossed for this year!
Happy New Year from San Diego, California. Sorry you aren’t moving (yet) but I am sure that the right buyer will be found soon. My shop is 7’x11’ (just over 2 meters x just under 3 1/2 meters) so I guess I shouldn’t complain if you can work out of the middle of a moving storeroom 😁. Since I’m fairly new to your channel I am looking forward to whatever you post. Thank you for sharing, stay busy and be creative!
Haha, yep I should add that my diamond slippers have been chaffing recently too! Welcome to the channel, there will be all sorts of nonsense posted this year. I hope you like it!
All up for vids on painting and drawing :-)
You got it!
Man that sucks! The stress of selling a house isn't fun. Hopefully you get a new buyer soon!
Viewing on Friday, fingers crossed. 🤞
Hi Mike, sorry to hear your house deal has fallen through, gutted for you, hope things work out soon for you. I wish you and yours all the best for 2025 catch you soon, take care
Thanks. Happy New Year!
Awesome shop! Can't wait to see what you do with the knowledge you have now with your new one!
Thanks dude. Hopefully I’ll do it justice!
Sorry to hear about your house sale falling through, absolute nightmare. Good luck for the future though and A Happy New year to you and your family. I hope 2025 brings you happiness and a move. 🙂
Happy new year to you too! What’s meant to be will be!
lose your space, not loose. Loose means slack or not secure.
Good spot haha. I’d like to blame auto correct but that one was all mine! Corrected!
Nightmare on the house move front. Cool.pressies though :)
Yeah a real pain. We’ll see how it all pans out, some fun projects on the way though.
What are the dimensions of your shop and was it overly restrictive? I’m planning to build one in my garden so just looking at options
6m x 3.7m x 2.7m, a little over 2.5 in height required by permitted development but no complaints and headroom is valuable.
And no, not restrictive for most small to medium projects.
Cheers, im looking at roughly that size so good to know 👍
Captain, don’t leave packing you workshop to the last minute, we moved 18 months ago and I underestimated how long it took to pack everything away properly, it a actually took longer to pack my workshop than it did packing the house, 😂 good luck with the move 👍🏼
I hear you. Ive started already but the move may fall through now so I have nowhere to create!
Leaving an old friend behind but onto the next chapter! Excited to see what you build for the new shop. Best of luck!
Awesome! Thank you!
I can’t wait. I have some smaller projects in mind in the meantime.
RE Wood storage. The racks look good but I find storing wood in my workshop a waste of valuable space. I built a kind of lean to shed out of 5mm acrylic sheets that were ex covid office dividers. If you had space for a basic garden shed or could build something external for wood storage (doesn't need to be acrylic!) it's good to keep your stock separate in my experience as wood in the workshop always ends up in a mess! I also built a rolling cart for sheet goods. The advantage of that is you can access the rear sheets much easier and move it out to slot sheets in & out, which is tricky against a wall. Mine lives in my wood store but you could build one for the workshop too. I can't remember whose design I pinched from UA-cam. Possibly Peter Millard. I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to wood & keeping it organized is one of my biggest challenges & when it gets disorganised I can waste half a day faffing about, moving it from place to place endlessly.
Yeah I did think about building some kind of shelter at the back of the workshop but just didn’t have the space. Hopefully the new place will have a few more possibilities because I agree, it’s a waste of space.
This is a very well planned and nicely thought-out project. You have really made the most of the extension possibilities. That dual saw/router table was a damned good idea. In smaller areas it's so easy to paint yourself into a corner (I do that all the time🙄). How are you finding the Axminster saw? I'm looking forward to seeing the changes and tweaking you're going to do to the fence- as they usually need something done to them. Looks like you've got yourself a nice organized work station. Greeting from France.
I am between workshops at the moment as we are in the process of moving house. The fence upgrades I have planned should take place early next year all being well!
Good luck on the house move. Looking forward to watching your new workshop being built.
I cant wait to get stuck into a new build!
Good luck with the house move. Look forward to seeing the ultimate workshop come together
House move proving to be a b$&@$&d. one day the ultimate shed will be built. For now though I’m workshopless and it’s rubbish!
@CaptainofmyShed house moving is such a ball ache. I hope you get it sorted soon
Great video, thank you for posting. What are the dimensions of this shed ? I am the process of building something similar, impressed how much you fitted in.
Internally about 5.5m x 3.5m. About the same as a single car garage I guess. It’s been big enough for most of what I do.
All the best for the move
Cheers dude!
Hi Mike, looks like time to move on, a new home and a new workshop project, the build. New ideas and planning from scratch a blank canvas, good luck. I wish you and yours all the best at this time of year and I wish it continues in 2025. Catch you soon, take care
Cheers dude! The move is falling apart at the moment so it’s a bit stressful but that’s life sometimes. Watch this space, plenty of good stuff to come!
All the best for the New Year and the move. Looking forward to the new shed build if you share it.
Happy new year to you too. When we eventually move the workshop build will definitely be shared!
This is super helpful! I bought a saw off craigslist and granted I've only been ripping pallet boards that are all knotted up through it, but I always plane every board flat before ripping them. I haven't ripped one single board where there wasn't resistance and it felt like I was on the verge of a kickback. I will be definitely taking your advice and putting it to the test! Thank you so much for making this video!
I’m really pleased it was helpful!
Thank you for the adjustment part at 4:40 my saw wasn’t aligned correctly when delivered.
Really glad it was useful!
How come u didnt show the type of fitting on the hoover side of the hose. Do these screw straight on to henry hoovers
Yeah if your Hoover doesn’t have its hose stuck in place then you should just be able to unscrew the old hose and replace with the new one. I think you can order this kit without the hose ready to use on whatever vacuum hose you have. That said, the smooth bore of the hose in this video makes a difference. Some vacuums have their attachments stuck on in which case you have to cut off and then screw the CenTec connector on.
Excellent video. Really useful info. Definitely going to look at buying a set. Keep up the good work.
Thanks very much. I’ve slowed down a lot recently but back to it in the new year!
it looks good , would have liked to see operation of the saw
Nice work on the piece, Captain. I’ve never been the guy to combine the router table to the table saw, but I can certainly see the merits.
Yeah it works well in my small shop. Especially on wheels. I think if I had more space I might have them separate.
16:49 I’m in my shop working alone while I have this on, and your whistling really threw me off. I thought some suddenly came through the door.😅
Hahaha! Yeah people either hate or love whistling. I do it almost subconsciously when I’m happily concentrating and in a good flow!
@@CaptainofmyShed Totally understand. If I recorded myself while doing good work, it would be a sadly out of tune rendition of Life of Mars.
Very nice build, seems your apprentice is good with the ol' mallet there. Enjoyed the video so now a new subscriber. TC. Barry (Wirral)
Glad you enjoyed! Plenty more to come. Thanks for subscribing!
Nice job and a very accessible build! Job Done...
Thanks! This was a fun project.
Lovely Build. the pull tab on the lid is a very nice unique addition and the finishing touch of adding magnets was really cool. Whoever gets this box are very lucky to have such a bespoke item. I made a baby's keep sake box for our grand daughter over 3 years ago and its still being used today and again is a unique one off item. I've just subscribed
Thanks for the sub! Yep I think a box is always a great gift. They’re so versatile!
I would check the brushes on the miter saw motor. More than likely that. Did it just start happening? I have seen a 220/110v table saw motor wired incorrectly do this as well.
Clever idea for the magnetic closing lid. I've done that for hinged lids. Never even occurred to do that on a sliding lid. I'm gonna borrow that idea for my next box. Thanks!
Yeah if I’d made the lid tighter then I wouldn’t have thought of it.
Yeah it was working fine then this!
hi.nice workpiece you'ce crafted there.where did you get your burning stamp and how expensive was it?
Ah I wish i could remember. I have had it for ages and bought it from an independent maker he sold the electric iron and also had a machine to cut the brass logo. From memory about £50 for the iron and £20 for the logo. They are certainly about that if you do a quick google search. Sorry i cant be more helpful!
love the box!!!
Lovely box, if I had one I think I would play with the magnetic catch quite a bit, strangely satisfying watching that :-) I might have to make one or two myself. Thank you.
Haha, yeah, it’s basically a fidget toy!
Bet they wouldn’t fit the tiny, 20mm o/s dia’ port on my Mikita, 1/4-sheet sander..?
There is one pretty narrow one which might fit the outside of the port?
Does your mitre saw have brushes? If so, they probably need replacing.
I didn’t think so but you might be right. Not sure why this didn’t occur to me!
The magnets were a very clever idea. They finished off the box. Who ever gets this will be blessed.
Thanks very much. I really like the snap to close the magnets created. Very satisfying!
