Indiana's coach during this game: Lee Corso
And who was the Indiana coach that day? Corso
And Michigan would get their revenge for this by planting the flag in Columbus!
This is what rivalries are all about.
I remember hearing that play on the radio. What a great moment
sorry not sorry but this is not the play of the century
We got to know Lee Corso from this who was content to tie as a spoiler. The out of bounds fumble before this play really set him off bonkers.
No overtime back then and only a handful of bowl games.
Just another diversion to keep people from paying attention to their personal finances.
Love A C. Hated the U S F L
It was a good touch down catch, but it wasn't that great my lord.
I had season tickets until that play that was one of the most boring games I ever went to . We didn’t play well at all .
I was there. In the video it looks like the stadium is packed with people. However, a lot of people had left. People were filing out of the stadium as this play happened. I remember thinking how all those people had just missed the most amazing play that I had ever seen.
Not the play of the century. That has to be one of the biggest hypes of all time.
Michigan *
That announcer is horrendous.
Anthony Carter was amazing, I was a young kid growing up in Ann Arbor when he played... Never missed a game!
Play action with 6 seconds on the clock from the 50 yard line 🤣🤣
Anthony played for the LIONS??
So he caught a pass?
Um. No. Berkeley beating Stanford. 1982. “The play.”
The announcing was truly an art form back in those days … class and enthusiasm.
I was at this game! Went to the following game, too, and I still have the program from that game which has AC on the cover about midway up the field and you can see the clock in the picture reading 0:00. Iconic. I won't ever forget this game.
THAT...?.?...is tha' play of tha' century? What am I missing?
I was at this game. With less than 10 seconds left they throw a slant pass and win. John was a great qb. It's unfortunate that his knees kept him from competing in the NFL. He was a much better qb than Leach who was cooked out before games.
I remember listening to that game in my bedroom and I just went crazy, best memory
He was like a penguin with a hot herring in his cummerbund.
Ufer...absolute legend! The most enthusiastic announcer ever
Against powerhouse Indiana 😅
Play of the century? Funny I haven't even heard of it. It looks a like a pretty mundane play to me. Who cares.
Lawrence Ricks fumbled out of bounds internationally on the play before or the clock would have run out
Not the play of the century. Sorry. Nice score, but not important. 8-4 on the year, with 3 straight losses to end the season.
By far the best most enthusiastic call ever
What about the Hindenburg?
I was a student and at this game.
Its truly sad and pathetic that so many people in this world would or could get so easily riled up by a simple, nothing special fkn touchdown. Obviously, far too many people's lives are completely bankrupt. Apparently, especially in Michigan.
I remember this game!
I’m 69 and have a been a Michigan fan my whole life. It’s the only time I ever ran on to the field. I went on to have one kid, a daughter who grew up to play 4 years in the Michigan Marching Band. A dream come true for her old man. Go Blue!
I'm 64 and was a student in the student section and we all ran on to the field. A friend of mine jumped on the goal post and we brought it down. One of the cops tried to knee cap me but missed.
I’m 61 and was at the last two home wins over OSU. I stayed up in the seats to take pics. 😂
I was at the game, and WOW, my friends were teasing me about a tie, and I yet had faith. They be eating crow now eh? LOL
I was 11. I grew up in Ann Arbor and lived down the street from the stadium. I used to go in for free when they opened the gates at the end of the 3rd quarter. I will never forget seeing this play unfold and running onto the field. Michigan Stadium and UM football made a huge impression on me and finally seeing them winning a real, convincing national championship 45 years later was a dream come true for me
🔥
That's not a particularly remarkable play, and I have to think in that era Michigan entered the game as a heavy favorite. The things people get stoked about SMH.
I'm a Michigan fan, but what was so big about this game? So we beat Indiana (who was never known for its football teams), and on the last play no less. I heard Ufer's call when they beat Ohio State in 1969 and it wasn't even close to how he is acting here, and that game meant even more to us than this game did. I'm sorry that maybe I'm the only Michigan fan that doesn't get Ufer. I didn't grow up listening to him, and maybe that's why I don't get it. The only thing I really like about him is that I think he was the one who coined the phrase "MEEEE-chigan!", so there's that, I guess.
I was a senior at Michigan when this play happened. Carter was the bright spot in an otherwise lackluster season. Notice that he was so elusive that Bo had him run a pattern rather than tossing up a Hail Mary or setting up a lateral play as is done in most similar situations.
I remember listening to this game on the radio. Ufer went ballistic and so did I. Back then there weren’t many games on TV.
I was at this game with the fam. I was 14. In the house I grew up Saturday was the holy day Michigan game came on at 1:00 p.m. on ABC and the sound went down and His holy Eminence Bob Ufer on WJR came on and that's all that we did for the next well until the game was over.
SERIOUSLY??? You beat INDIANA..THEN, Lost 3 of your last 4 games.....Blow Scumbeckler lost ANOTHER bowl game....LOLOLOLOLOLOL.....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
I remember where I was when I was listening to this game and hearing this play. Bob Ufer was a Michigan man through and through. Anthony Carter was a Michigan great. Go Blue!
Anthony Carter was the best that has ever played at Michigan.
My dad used to turn the TV sound off and tune into WBCK and Bob Ufer during the televised games.
Best play of WHAT Century...the 18th?
I was there
I was 7...I remember my dad going nuts on this play!
Growing up watching coach Schembechler was a great experience, but this year was special.
The only one who could contain Anthony Carter was Bo Schembechler
I was there, in the stands at the end zone where Carter scored. I can say that without a doubt, it was by far the most emotional a Michigan crowd had ever been. It was surreal, the video doesn’t do it justice, how crazy the fans were. It wouldn’t be until 2021 when Michigan finally came through and beat Ohio State, that the fans would all stay for such an incredibly long time after a game. No one wanted to leave. 💙
AC was very fast.....I was at that game a zillion years ago !!!!! Unbelievable ending to that game!
