I've been quiet for a little while and busy working on this: my first full train consist, an InterCity 125 or High Speed Train (HST). It made its debut at Shildon Brick Show 2023. The two class 43 power cars are modelled after 43002 'Sir Kenneth Grange' and 43003 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel,' which originally ran together under the number 253001 being classified as a diesel multiple unit (DMU). The 80s Intercity will always be my favourite, but dat 2000ish one is looking trim.
That Intercity in proper rootsy 80s BR colours...I am going suitcase hunting in the morning.
Glad you like it! Another member of LUKR has one in the swallow livery. I've got a video of the two running together at Cromford Builds.
Oh my...Those magnificent carriages being pulled by the blue A4...I must have some like that, although I would prefer the 2x3 and 3x4 train windows not the 3x4 building windows that always look too angular but they still look stunning. As soon as I find that suitcase full of cash and diamonds I am having 4 Mark 1 carriages pulled by a class 37 just as god intended. Lego, please release a set with two Mark 1 carriages and a class 37 and a class 47 engine, you do not do enough British diesel engines, you do too many yank ones instead, time for some proper Northern England engines ala Tinsley Marshalling Yard.
Check Block Junction? They have a 6 wide 37 and are releasing a 7 wide one in the future.
wish i would have known, i would have loved to have seen this
@@yorkshiremaninchina Thanks! The event was organised by Sheffield LUG, and LUKR display at shows regularly. Keep an eye on social media for future events: facebook.com/share/i5cJNFJLK3tRWY9N/?mibextid=LQQJ4d www.lukrailway.co.uk
Shows we do around the north include Locomotion Bricks at NRM Shildon, Yorkshire Brick Show in York, Bricktastic in Manchester, plus a slew of others. As Simon said, check the LUKR's social pages for shows we'll be doing.
Thanks for coming Simon! It was good fun and definitely helped me consider how I want to operate my layout in the future! The A4 looked magnificent with the Mk1s.
A pleasure, as always! Those Mk1s are gorgeous. Just need to make my own coaches now...
F*ck it, 3 1/2 Gronks!
Irn Bru, Da Ba Dee Dabba Da-ee...
How did they get the valve gears to work
They are impressive aren’t they? Most of the locomotives use 3d-printed valve gear parts from www.brecklandbricks.com
@@sjbowenthank you
good to see you again Simon
Good to see you too, Nick! We missed a photo opp for a mini great gathering of 3 A4s. One for another time?
@@sjbowen yes, definately up for that, may even have the lining and decals done by the member weekend
Looks like a great weekend, gutted I couldn't be there!
Yep, sorry you couldn't make it. But you were there in spirit - if the number of crashes was anything to go by.
Awesome video, you guys have some amazing looking trains!
Thanks! I'm amazed by what the others come up with. It's great to be able to show my rolling stock alongside them.
what a wonderful inspirational model! greetings from germany! :)
Danke schoen!
I think that's a really lovely loco. The pre-grouping era is an absolute goldmine for locos that you could make into Lego. There were hundereds of elegant and unconventional designs, The Bug being a prime example. There are a lot of LSWR locos in particular, like the M7 and A12.
Thanks! Agreed about the pre-grouping era. I've got another pre-grouping loco on my list to build later this year...
The chassis of it kinda looks like the chassis from the little engine that could
So it does! I wasn't familiar with that story from my own childhood (Ivor the Engine TV series and the Rev Awdry books were more my era) but, now I look, I see the similarity.

Cool! I've always wanted to make an MOC myself, but never had the parts to do so. This is very cool though.
Thanks! I tend to build with parts to hand (often in multi-colour) then order the bricks I need from www.bricklink.com.
I never realised there was a big community around building lego train replicas, this is so cool!
Thanks! I didn't realise how 'deep the rabbit hole goes' until I started making my own trains. Check out Lego UK Railway (the club I'm part of) on Facebook for more UK examples: facebook.com/lukrailway and the Brick Train Awards have some stunning models from around the world: www.bricktrainawards.com/
Looked great. Did the HST get a lot of attention from people at the show?
Thanks! Yes, it attracted attention. The new lights meant you could see the interior but I also think it's because it's such a recognisable train.
@@sjbowen Yes, people like to see recognisable things in Lego. When I ran my Coke, Duracell, Cadbury and Milka tankers on the LSUR layout, there were loads of people pointing and commenting to each other.
Pleasure as always to run with ya Simon!
Beautiful! 🙂
Pleasure to have it on the layout!
Great moc, the mallard is one of my favorite locos! I was wondering if you had a file or image for the sticker sheet you used that you might be willing to share.
Thanks! Here's a link to the sheet I made for the stickers, which were printed onto glossy, white, self-adhesive vinyl. drive.google.com/file/d/13i9e4D8EuEWsEmym-kD8uSeHkgfb1RLd/view?usp=sharing
Hi Simon, It looks absolutely great. I'm a fellow LUKR member and a 125 is on my LONG list of MOCs I want to eventually make. Can I just ask, it looks like it's 7studs wide (or 6 and a few plates at the cabs) How many studs long did you decide to make the coaches / power cars ?
Thanks Jez, glad you like it! The coaches are 44 studs long (not including the corridor connectors at 4 plates SNOT each), which is just long enough to fit the right number of windows in. The PowerCars are shorter (as they are in the prototype) maybe around 40 studs. I need to find some time to do a walk through vid as all the coaches have detailed interiors as do the PowerCar cabs.
@@sjbowen VERY cool and I'd love to see a walk-thru vid. I've tended to model at the awkward City scale of 6-wide. I managed a fairly successful Class 442 (I did a build series for it on my channel incase you're interested) and I've always thought I'd stick to attempting a 6-wide 125 but... I see so many at 7 or even 8 wide, that I'm starting to wonder if it would be possible or just end up looking like a dog's dinner!!!! Lastly... did you ever consider Lego dark blue instead of standard blue (i'm in two minds as to which BR's colour is closest to!)
@@MinifigJez I started at 6-wide but soon moved to 7-wide. It's a good compromise between space for extra detail but not such a large investment in parts as needed for 8-wide. Standard Lego blue is pretty close to the prototype and easier/cheaper to source but I have seen some cool BR builds in dark blue - notably Breckland Bricks' class 55 Deltic. I'll go take a look at your 442...
@@sjbowen Thanks. I think I might have seen the Deltic when I met some of the club members at the Reading Brick Show last June. I've seen a 125 in Dark Blue, and it did look smart (but I take your point about the cost!!!!)
Have only just seen this now. Awesome models and a great video. The layouts you guys do over there seem to get better and better each time!
Thanks! Some of the other @lukrailway members have put some serious time and effort into this layout. I'm really fortunate to be able to run some of my stock on it at shows!

Was thinking you where building something like the South Australian Coffee Pot.
Yes, very like it. Video coming to reveal all this evening! P.s. I'd not seen the Coffee Pot before. What a fabulous little thing!
Thomas, I didn't know you did this content lol
I recognize that unusual type of locomotive; it's the London and South Western Railway F9 4-2-4 saloon tank engine - better known as "The Bug" - designed and built in 1899 and withdrawn in 1940. Reportedly, it was built to bring railway directors to places at a very quick pace. The saloon unit is preserved as a garden shed, but the engine unit itself was scrapped by 1957.
Winner! Well spotted. Video of the final build coming soon.
really great! I want to redesign my city in retro version with all your ideas

Hi, the carriage looks awesome! Do you have an instruction file / parts list to convert the stock carriage to it?
