Kaulaʻili, to me, is sung in reverence, kind of like a pule. When around the Waimea cowboys and ʻohana, I often witness how this mele stills the crowd and everyoneʻs posture perks to lean into the mele, sing along, reminisce the old timers, legendary stories, and this proud tradition of the paniolo. In Waiheʻe, Maui, simple accompaniment, complimentary pāʻani, and bringing the ʻohana of ʻIkuā Purdy into the high vibration delivery of this honoring was magic💫
