DROLET | Tips and Tricks - How to Cook with the Bistro Wood Cookstove?
Discover the Bistro, the versatile and compact wood-burning cookstove that provides autonomy and gastronomy in one appliance. Equipped with an oven and a cooking surface, the Bistro is ideal for reheating, cooking and simmering your favorite meals.
REMEMBER: the key to successful cooking lies in the balance between the wood load, the air supply and the burn time.
1. The quantity and size of the logs influence the heat produced for cooking. At equal weight, one large piece of wood will take longer to release its heat than several small pieces. Thus, to obtain a gradual cooking temperature over a longer period, for example for a stew, the use of large logs is ideal. Conversely, to obtain a rapid and intense cooking temperature, for example to preheat the appliance or searing meat, using several small logs will be more effective.
2. The air damper, located under the combustion chamber, allows for the adjustment of the intensity of the fire. The more the damper is open, the more intense the heat, allowing higher cooking temperatures to be reached in less time. This is ideal for boiling water or preheating the oven for baking bread. The more the damper is closed, the more the heat is constant, which makes it possible to maintain the cooking temperature over a long period. This is ideal for reheating prepared meals. An intense fire will consume wood fast, so it needs to be checked often to the keep temperatures even.

Too bad you don’t have a link for where I can buy one
Hi there! You can shop Drolet stoves at www.drolet.ca/ca/en/wood-stoves/
I like this stove! Is it welded or bolted together?
Hi there! It needs to be assembled, we also have a video on how to proceed: ua-cam.com/video/sTDvbH12DdQ/v-deo.html
Will it heat a 1000 square foot cabin in Minnesota where it gets very cold in winter?
Hi there, with its 3.3 ft³ firebox, it will be more than enough, maybe a little too much. It will heat comfortably 2,300 ft².

I guess you mean prices? They're all displayed on our website ! www.drolet.ca/us/en/cookstoves/db04820/
is it necessary to add all those choice part? my chimney is not next to a wall that leads to the ouside, there is a room behind it. so none of that stuff would work i guess. any ideas?

I have a very inefficient late 1800s era large home that has been costing me a liver to heat (gas and heat pumps) since I bought it. Am looking into a wood or coal stove. The Drolet site says the HT3000 pumps out over 300K BTU, which would awesome. But it also says its only meant to heat a 2400sf home??? Tat makes no sense. 300K BTU should heat a much larger home. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Any feedback would be appreciated, as I am new to this. Thanks!
bonjour j'aimerais voir une vidéo comment faire le rammonage de cette cuisiniere a bois bistro
Is it ready to use out of the box? It won’t off-gas anything from the paint? Or should it have an initial burn outside or something?
Hi there! As explained in the user manual (www.drolet.ca/file/46315A_2023-09-22.pdf): Two things happen when burning the first few fires; the paint cures and the internal components are conditioned. As the paint cures, some of the chemicals vaporize. The vapors are not poisonous, but they smell bad. Fresh paint fumes can also trigger false alarms in smoke detectors. When lighting the heater for the first few times, it may be wise to open doors and windows to ventilate the house. Burn two or three small fires to begin the curing and conditioning process. Then build bigger and hotter fires until there is no longer paint smell from the stove. As hotter and hotter fires are burned, more of the painted surfaces reach the curing temperature of the paint. The smell of curing paint does not disappear until one or two very hot fires have been burned.

Hi there! No need to get worked up, we actually have plenty of information available. There's a complete video on our channel about this stove series here ua-cam.com/video/6JIcG8NMTts/v-deo.html You can also go to our website and use our 3D tool that allows you to project the stove in your own home thanks to AI: www.drolet.ca/ca/en/wood-stoves/db03215/ and click the ''SEE THE APPLIANCE IN MY SPACE'' button, right under the picture. Isn't that great? While you're there, you can take a look at the owner reviews and maybe checkout the specs where you can find measurements drawings in the ''Manuals and documents'' tab. Hope this helps!
I would like to buy one. Details please
Hello! It is available directly on our website: www.drolet.ca/ca/en/cookstoves/db04820/
Do you sell a stove pipe/chimney box/pipe kit to go with it? Why is it not mobile home approved weight?
We do have a few kits, double wall (www.drolet.ca/ca/en/venting/double-wall-stove-pipe/?category=kits) and single wall (www.drolet.ca/ca/en/venting/single-wall-stove-pipe/?category=kits). This cookstove simply has not been tested for mobile home installation, hence the not approved mention in the manual.
How can I buy it and what cost it? From Pakistan
It is currently retailed at $4,999.00 CAD, but is not available for international shipping. www.drolet.ca/ca/en/cookstoves/db04820/
Have you guys ever thought of doing a decorative wood stove, like the Godin Arnica? Or the Le Botanic? It looks like the firebox is modern then they constructed a ceramic shell around it.
We specialize in high efficiency wood stoves. With the environmental standards getting stricter, we focus on performance for end-user and investing in R&D. Decorative/ceramic stoves are not in line with what we do best!
Is there a way to mount a grill inside the combustion chamber, like the Esse Bakeheart? Would be superb for grilling steaks and pizza. That's a real killer app because it's impossible to grill indoors.
If you have a grill the right size, you could put it in there!
Is there a ledge in the combustion chamber for grilling or pizza? Like the Esse Bakeheart
No!
Can your wood stoves boil water or is the iron top to thick?
You can definitely boil water on top of the stove.
@@drolet8219 Ok, so can you cook on it as well?
@@drolet8219 And can it burn all night?
@@gearup9503 With the firebox being on the smaller size (1.55 ft³), this unit has a 5 hour burn time. www.drolet.ca/ca/en/wood-stoves/db03401/
@@drolet8219 Great thanks
I’m wondering how good they really are for cooking with the oven, how wall would it heat the hous. Anyone knows?
Can you use it only for heating our home when we're not cooking?
Of course! It can be used as a standard wood stove if you're not cooking :)
Can the stovetop be use as a cooking surface? Thank you!
Of course! A stove fully loaded with wood will easily reach 500 to 700 °F on top. This is sufficient to cook. Note however that the use of a pan or other cookware may scratch the paint. An option is to use a cast iron cooking grid or simply lay a piece of stainless steel on top of the stove.
Anyone wondering from owner . Awesome stove puts off tons of heat way more than my Vermont castings defiant, longer burns too. Only thing that sucks is cleaning chimney you can’t sweep to stove because oven. I’m going to see about removing oven to sweep it looks very doable
Thanks for your feedback Jon! You can take a look at p.44 of the user manual : www.drolet.ca/file/46251A_2023-04-25.pdf there are a few notes on sweeping and cleaning the gas path. You can also get in touch with our techs for tips on the best way to proceed at tech@sbi-international.com or 1-877-356-6663.
Do you have a double wall pipe kit for the Nano?
My manual has instructions for both
Yes, we have this kit available for order: www.drolet.ca/ca/en/venting/double-wall-stove-pipe/kits/vodbktw06/
I see these stoves are only rated for a 5hr burn time; that really doesn’t sound like much.
Combustion times are directly related to the size of the firebox ; generally, the bigger the firebox, the more wood you can load, hence longer burn times. This wood stove series has a 1.55 ft³ firebox, which is pretty small.
Is this approved for a standard home or mobile home only? Considering one for our living room but gotta confirm that this is Wett Certifiable for homes. Thanks
Hi! It is suitable for standard homes :)
can we use this as a room heater cold places
Hi there! This wood stove is perfect for spaces 250 - 1,200 square feet.
This is quite unfortunate I live in Kenya and I have lots of wood and I can't buy the wood stove am disappointed

That much money and chimney pipe not even included.......wow
Hi! For stoves made with quality North American steel, manufactured in Canada or the US, and backed by a solid warranty, we feel very confident about our prices. You could get cheaper stoves from companies that use lower quality materials and manufacture their appliances in China, the choice is up to you!
If you’re truly surprised, then you’ve got unrealistic expectations.

I need to know dealers in the Kansas City area?
You can use our dealer locator to find retailers near you: www.drolet.ca/us/en/where-to-buy/
Do you sell them in Romenia and what kind of money please
Hi! Unfortunately we only sell our stoves in Canada and USA.
It shows and says reduced clearance in the video, but im not seeing in the manual, anything that supports the video's claim. Under what conditions are the clearances reduced?
Hi there! Take a look at the user manual p.52, you will find section 8.2 Clearances Reduction to the Walls and the Ceiling: www.drolet.ca/file/46251A_2023-04-25.pdf This shows you exactly how to reduce clearances. In this video, we mean ''reduced clearances'' compared to other cookstoves. Comparable units usually have much bigger clearances to combustibles - for example, using double wall stove pipe, the clearance to the back wall is only 6'' !
I see, so with addition of heat shields with part numbers AC02766 and/or AC02765 you can dramatically reduce clearance. Thanks, you were right. Does Drolet sell those parts?
@@IsaacSchultz Of course! You can order them on our website: www.drolet.ca/us/en/accessories/?type=heat-shields
what should the temperature of the cooking top be with a good fire?
This is a tough one to answer as ''a good fire'' can vary from one user to another. While testing in our lab, we were able to properly grill food in a skillet at about 400°F (as measured with a thermal camera).

Question on the austral forced air option?Does it come with blower ?does it feed into forced air furnace or use alone?can be used in power outage?
Hi! We actually have a kit that includes the Austral III as well as a forced air system (including a blower): www.drolet.ca/ca/en/wood-stoves/db03033k/ It cannot be connected with the duct of a furnace and can still be used in a power outage. Can you still run it without a generator or electricity? If you remove plentium and let gravity get heat out?
Hi! If you have a power faillure you can use the furnace by removing the blower box cover and the air will flow by gravity. Best to use half load to avoid overheat.

Anyone sale this in Indiana?
As of now, we only have Canadian retailers who have this model in store. It is available for purchase directly on our website if you wish to place an order online! www.drolet.ca/us/en/cookstoves/db04820/
Can this stove stay lite all winter long or should I get a regular drolet wood stove for heavy heat duties
This cookstove's firebox has the same design as our regular wood stoves so it's heating performances are the same as our large size models. The only advantage of getting a regular stove would be to go up a firebox size and get a bigger stove (extra large), but that really depends on what your needs are.
