    This would have been a great thing for me to see around 2009 when my toxicity was peaking around my deepest period of chronic illness and became a contributing factor to my divorce :( Sometimes young men just need the basic structure pointed out and permission to negotiate with that structure.

      @Jonathan.Kilson 9 місяців тому

      It's tough to hear about what you've been through. Don't be too hard on yourself. Dealing with a chronic illness is incredibly difficult for anyone. Having a supportive partner can make a big difference in how we handle our personal challenges.

    In the Netflix movie the man is bad and the woman is a victim. No way! Is there a good movie about just masculinity that we can use as a reference for healthy behaviour?

    • @Jonathan.Kilson
      @Jonathan.Kilson 9 місяців тому

      I was considering mentioning the movie 'The Iron Giant' as an example of portraying 'healthy masculinity.' It's an older animated film from the 90s - so I'm not sure how many people would connect with it, but I find its message timeless.

  • @takeoffwithjakesoft
    @takeoffwithjakesoft 9 місяців тому

    I'm not sure why this even came up in my feed, but it was interesting. The argument you seem to be trying to make is for a balanced approach which I can agree with. You say at one point to be open with your emotions, but later say to remain “cool, calm, and collected”. Those two statements are at odds when feeling angry or insulted, etc. Your instincts will tell you to be aggressive, but that might not be the best idea in the long run. It seems to me that the trick is to be aware of one's feelings but to express them in a controlled way, otherwise you get an unhinged rant like this guy in the movie. You point out a common need men have for control, so maybe control of one's self is the ultimate control worth striving for.

    • @Jonathan.Kilson
      @Jonathan.Kilson 9 місяців тому

      Absolutely. Embracing emotional control is vital for anyone, regardless of gender. Reacting aggressively seldom leads to positive outcomes. I value your input, appreciate the engagement.

      Or maybe there is a reason why someone shows anger and that might not always be the fault of the person who is angry and the other person needs to take some accountability for those actions.

    Toxic masculinity and feminity destroy at the same rate, we focus on men to an inordinate degree. Toxic is just a buzzword to describe using the behavors and advantages of your sex to serve yourself at the detriment of others, women do this all the time as well.

      The term toxic masculinity was created by a man, but women use that term a lot more than men now days

    • @Jonathan.Kilson

      The term "toxic masculinity" originated from the field of gender studies and sociology. It's widely recognized that both Toxic masculinity and Toxic femininity are real phenomena. While this video specifically addresses masculinity, it's possible your UA-cam algorithm emphasizes Toxic masculinity, although Toxic feminism is also a prevalent topic of discussion.

    Interesting perspective on something we need to discuss more. I think “over-employment” is something that will increase as long as we continue to allow remote work. It would be ideal if wages were more “livable” in order to liberate employees from the need to work more than one job. However, that may never be reality.
