@@brenryan6019 thanks brotha! 🤙
Inspiring me on my build
This is so Amazing!!
More storage for the win!!
Sharp upgrade
I’d like to know what screws you used
I would Use 3/4in wood screws or brad nailer
Love it!
Thanks for watching!
love the video...just got a 98' Dodge Ram 2500 with the wheelchair lift identical to yours. 40,600 miles for $3750! Couple things need to be addressed right away naturally and they will...I was just wondering if you had an update video for this van. Ive only watched two videos so far but I'm gonna keep going. lol
Wow great deal! I really liked this van (probably the favorite on the channel). I have a good amount of build content and a few camp videos that you can enjoy!
@ yeah I watched a couple hours of it last night lol great channel keep it up!
@@Joseph-zq2mh right on! Glad you enjoyed it 🤙
Looking to build one of these. How are you connecting the extension to the platform base when fully extended? I have a few ideas but wanted to see how to tackled that.
It is pressure fit between the folded up seats and resting on a aluminum egde of the drawers for a flush strong fit.
Love it
Really simple to complete and all the right features.
@SeizeTheAdventureCo something like that that's what I like in minivans simple but very useful
Hey dude, did you build that bed off of plans? If so, I'd love to know where you got them!
@@KidderFPV The bed was designed in my head on the fly 🤠 I have some relating videos on my channel on how to build these slat beds if you are interested in checking those out to get an ideas of what that process is like. 👍
Love your build! Super clean. Do you think realistically that getting a high top Astro (around +6”) would make a big enough difference or do you think sticking with the original size is smarter due to heating gas milage and other factors?
I’d get a high roof if you could. More headroom and potential for storage would be great. Biggest downside is the fiberglass in my opinion. Harder to mount things to and bigger potential for leaks. Hope these pros and cons help.
@ do you think the more headroom would be enough to stand upright in?
@ well that depends how tall you are 😁 for me it probably wouldn’t be enough to stand. Go back and check out my Dodge Ram b2500 build (favorite on the channel). It had a bubble top on it and wasn’t enough to stand but it definitely made the space way bigger
Really liked this video, it gave me the Confidence to attempt this paint job myself on my truck.
Excellent! It really is possible. Hope your rig came out looking great!
Ready for any adventure 🔦
Like a swiss army knife
Seems easy enough! I don't have a 4runner but I just got a Ford Maverick, so I'm following your series to get some ideas to turn it into an overlanding/hunting rig.
I'd recommend checking out some of my other videos that cover all sorts of tips and tricks on building a reliable overlanding rig! Congrats on your build and good luck!
That bed is fire 🔥
I thought it came out really functional and easy to use!
It’s a great addition! Excited to use the water jug. Love the new logo
Just got a gmc safari, and watched a ton of builds, but yours is super simple and functional, thanks for the great low cost ideas!
@@evilash570 keep things simple and low cost was the goal from the beginning so I’m glad to hear we achieved this. Thanks for watching the video!
thank you brother
@@jimcooper1053 you’re welcome! Glad you found the video
How did you mount the seven-gallon water jug? Also what is the black material covering on your right drawer? Looks like a great system!
The water is strapped to the molle panel with two straps and resting on the wheel well to support most of the weight. The right drawer has a plywood "false top" which is simply painted black. This acts as a countertop. You can pop it out to get to the storage underneath (that is where the stove is stored). Really appreciate you watching this one. Feel free to check out the full length video that I created when building this system. I really use it a ton, it has not left the truck in over a year!
The best part was when we were shown how it looked illuminated through running lights and braking...
@@Mahaney82 stay tuned for the full length video 😁
@SeizeTheAdventureCo hard pass. It's only worth a short. It's just a brake light
@ I respect your decision 🤠
Hey buddy, been loving your Astro videos; this is my favorite build. I've been trying to zero in on how you did your roof (especially fond of how you did the cedar planks around the side windows). Are you still planning on releasing a more in-depth build video? From the comments earlier than mine, sounds like you've already sent this one on to greener pastures. Cheers!
Really glad you found this video. I did unfortunately have the van pass on to another owner before I made the official video and I apologize about that. The ceiling was pretty much the same in the other builds ive done so would recommend checking those out if that is something youd like to know more about. This build was so simple and easy to create with minimal tools and space. If you have a vision id recommend just going for it!
@@SeizeTheAdventureCo That's what the plan is dude! Any other van builds in your future or you sticking with the 4Stunner? I have a 1998 that I've been camping out in for the last 15 years or so. Too tall and old for it now LOL
@ I’d love to continue building overland campers of all shapes and sizes on a variety of platforms so definitely stay tuned for that! The 4Runner is my daily so of course it has to be rigged to camp. Honestly really enjoy the simplicity and reliability of my current set up. What kind of content would you like to see in the future?
Awesome
Check out the full length video!
do you have an Instagram account?
Just glued the wood straight to the floor. Surprised you didnt put any spund deadening down or any insulation under the wood floor. Also its good to unscrew the trim around the window and reseal them. I did all three of mine and there were holes and gaps from the factory. I was quite surprised.
If you strip a factory vehicle you will recognize that there is thin denim insulation and carpet glued straight to the floor. This holds on to moisture etc. The plywood creates an air gap with the ribs of the van and allows for air flow of the floor. I have nothing against insulating the floor. If you want to save space and money this is where it can happen. I should've resealed all of the windows like you mentioned. I have seen others do that! Thank you for watching my video and leaving advice
How are you blocking out the windows for night privacy and insulation?
@@professorjedi1024 I sold this van to someone who needed to live in it. They were going to do black fabric covered insulation for the rear windows. I installed a curtain that goes across the cab to block the front windows. I might’ve done some sliding curtains across the windows, that’s my favorite way to cover the windows personally because it’s easy to set up and store. Thanks for watching
what is size of wood using? screws using
3/4in-1in
Using spray adhesive was a bad idea. Should've used insulation pins my guy :)
Thanks for the tip! I'll try that next time around.
@SeizeTheAdventureCo just makes life easier and they're available on amazon. All over the place.
Did you repaint the flooring? if so, what paint did you use this time?
Rustoleum!
I didnt see you install a fan. Is it not needed for these kind of builds?
The client that I built that van for didn’t want a fan. I’d recommend it for ventilation but it’s not a requirement. You can always open up a window 😁
@@SeizeTheAdventureCo got ya. Thanks . I’m looking to start my first build soon so I’m trying to learn as much as can
@@DavinciHD_ sweet deal, congratulations! I’d recommend checking out my Dodge B2500 series for a super comprehensive build. It’s my favorite on the channel!
👍 👍
Nice build. Very happy that my friend was able to buy this from you and improve her life.
Thank you so much for watching. Glad we got them out on the road with some deserved creature comforts. Really happy that I was able to make an impact in a positive way! That’s what it’s all about.

I just got a van and started watching your series, great series. What/which type of screws are you using to screw the pieces into the frame rails?
3/4in self tapping screws. Works like a charm. Thank you for watching, really glad you were able to find it!
@@SeizeTheAdventureCo I like how you countersunk the screws, looks nice
Hey STACO, am I crazy or are you the guy who put the bench seat up in the cabin at one point? I coulda sworn it was you. Can't find that in any of your videos now
I can’t recall this exact video, but I have heard that there’s a couple of look-a-likes out there on UA-cam from previous viewers. Nonetheless I’m glad you found this video! Thanks for watching
Overlanding = backpacking with a vehicle as your pack. Honestly, it is more of a corporate or marketing term. I've been doing it since I bought my first Toyota 4x4 truck in 1993. Back then we just called it truck camping. Thanks for the video summary of the expo.
@@thedangerson couldn’t agree with you more, thanks for watching!
Love seeing a glimpse into your Adventures - Amazing!
More to come!
Where were you camped at? Nice set up
We were about an hour southwest of Denver!
Yes, yes. Keep it simple. Low maintenance. Maximum fun. I would like to duplicate your van. The one thing I might try differently is that I would like to sit on the sofa and be able to reach across to the kitchen cabinet and slide out a 24” wide table (like a bread board) for my laptop and eating. And then push it back in when not in use. You have a great camper van! I am a new subscriber and looking forward to keeping up with you.
MAX fun! Awesome idea tom. I totally agree with you on this one.
Next tutorial needs to be how to fold up those darn pop up shelters I'm like 0-39 against that thing
HA! they really are brutal
Cant wait to come out and camp with yall! Whens the sprinter van debut?
Come on out! I want to do a sprinter ASAP!
Great campsite find. Let’s do it again soon 😁
Fall camping is the best!
Deep....lol. Nice. FYI, I quit my job, sold or gave everything away and headed out cross country on the gravel bike with bike trailer 4 weeks ago. Only the weather will dictate where I go. (Brought a fishing pole of course!). Keep up the great vids. I check in when I can. I'm digging on the music you play in your vids. ✌️Mike (Everyone calls me Moon).
Goodluck out there moon, thanks for watching as always.
You are da man, great looking build, very humble and positive vibe. I vote the 4 Runner. Not a lot of builds w that
Right on man, glad you found my channel. Check out my 4Runner content!
Thansk 😊
You are welcome, thanks for watching
I'm about to do the same thing to mine. I do a lot more backpacking trips, but having this as an option for "car" camping would be great for me and the dog. My only question is about the hinge and T frame underneath the front platform piece. When that folds over into the rear of the vehicle (I assume with a piano hinge, or something similar) with the seats up, the support 1x6s are sticking up, correct? I don't think it would be much of an issue when it's like that I am just trying to completely visualize the build concept.
The extension platform is pressure fitted and completely removable. Its resting on a "T" support that is hinged. When I want to put the seats up this is the procedure: 1. Move front seats forward (they help extension stay in place by pressure fit) 2. Pop extension up and slide back over platform 3. Fold "T" support and place behind the seat 4. Fold up rear seats It's a really simple design that allows me to carry 5 passengers with almost no effort whenever needed. Thanks for watching
Appreciate the reply! For the drawer bottom did you use a smaller size thickness plywood than the 1/2" used for the frame of the box itself?@SeizeTheAdventureCo
😊
Thanks for watching :)
Deep...😀
Amazing! Thanks for making such a detailed video. It was very helpful.
