Well, we all know that the Dominican culture is a tight knit one, and that a man with a successfull life is always going to be pampered and put on a pedestal over any woman for any reason. They are still living in the ages of the catholic incvisition even in the US and other modern western countries they are present in. What they probably don't realise is that not even bothering to hide that fact, since they take some sort of perverted pride in it to this day, just makes all of them a sort of distant accomplished to this murder because they are moved and motivated by that single axiom. You cannot criticise a successful man. Not even when he comits a blatant and open murder because her rejection of him has hurt his superinflated ego, which is more than ample reason to kill her in that culture. Had it been the other way around, they would have shown no mercy to her, but fed her to the wolves in tiny little bites, cutting each bite of in a way to make her live long enough to see the wolves eating her. A semaphor to be true, but aptly describing matters. And for Dominicans now wanting to say this is not true and never were, don't bother. I've lived next door to dominicans doing just that and taking pride in it. Not actual murder, but domestic violence so groce that even a hardline muslim neighbour who was no stranger to violence against his wife was horrified. And the whole Dominican community rallied behind him when he eventually got arrested and charged. They didn't offer his wife even the most basic consideration. And they defended this line of actions with the words "This is how we have always done it in the Dominican republic. It is our culture. It is just the way things are and there is no reason to change it."And what makes it even worse is that the son of another family not far away decided to leave that mentality behind when he came of age and speak against it. He was an immediate outcast in the community, but was often approached by members trying to make him see "the errors" of his thinking and return to the flock. He made a bigger success in life than most, but never returned to the culture of flock. He married a Danish woman and moved out into the countryside with his Danish family. Danish not just in name, but perhaps a bit overdone in response to the bad old life of his.
