The Quantum Information Structure of Spacetime

QISS is an interdisciplinary initiative in Quantum Information and Quantum Gravity, bringing together theorists, experimentalists and philosophers. Our research program aims to unravel the Quantum Information Structure of Spacetime. Our consortium is supported by a large grant from the John Templeton Foundation and from numerous smaller grants obtained by individual participating research groups. QISS is coordinated by the Center for Space, Time and the Quantum.
The overarching theme investigated is the conceptual role of Information in gravitational physics. This is a question that calls for a rethinking of Space, Time and Quantum foundations.

Flaminia Giacomini: Quantum effects in gravity beyond the Newton potential.
Understanding the fundamental nature of gravity at the interface with quantum theory is a major open question in theoretical physics. Recently, the study of gravitating quantum systems, for instance a massive quantum system prepared in a quantum superposition of positions and sourcing a gravitational field, has attracted a lot of attention: experiments are working towards realising such a scenario in the laboratory, and measuring the gravitational field associated to a quantum source is expected to give some information about quantum aspects of gravity. However, there are still open questions concerning the precise conclusions that these experiments could draw on the nature of gravity, such as whether experiments in this regime will be able to test more than the Newtonian part of the gravitational field. In this talk, I will show that a static mass in a quantum state gives rise to effects that cannot be reproduced using the Newton potential nor with a known classical model of gravity. These effects can in principle be measured by performing an interference experiment, and are independent of graviton emission. Identifying stronger quantum aspects of gravity than those reproducible with the Newton potential is crucial to prove the nonclassicality of the gravitational field and to plan a new generation of experiments testing quantum aspects of gravity in a broader sense than what proposed so far.

Nice talk In regard to Eugeno’s question, can you not instead of the force being variable in the stochastic approach and classical path integral formulation replace the variable force for a variable frequency or energy due to quantum influences on classical gravity and thus provide additional insight into the Doppler effect and thus to the cosmological perturbations. Thus experiments on frequency variability you wouldn’t need to wait for your experiments of 2032 etc

That Carlo Rovelli, as famous a genius he may be, here he is most of the time a nuisance distraction - This is hard enough to understand, but he may have discouraged several other people to ask the famous "stupid questions", which usually help the whole class. Admittedly, I would have probably asked too many stupid questions myself, because this talk was quite a bit above my level. 🙂
Jonathan Jonathan… Possibly you could test for quantum-to-classical interactions by testing of variable frequency due to quantum influences on classical gravity by reevaluating the Doppler effect which is classical-to-quantum interactions but if frequency is variable as you use newton’s force to being variable within the path integral formulation of classical then you have no choice but to reevaluate the Doppler effect due to variable frequency and thus for cosmology adherence. And I am sure this is much easier to testing rather than your experiment proposal of waiting till 2032. Indeed, if the traditional understanding of the Doppler effect is challenged by the introduction of variable frequencies resulting from quantum influences on classical gravity, this presents a unique opportunity to explore the interactions between quantum and classical realms through experimental testing and observation. Post Quantum Theory is the most promising candidate for the further advancement of Physics because it finally overcomes the manic fixation with quantum gravity despite the fact that gravity is not a force and GR is intrinsically a classic theory. Reciprocal cause and effect is not actually unique to Buddhism, it is something Friedrich Engels also argues in _Anti-Durhing._ If you reject the thing-in-itself, if everything is in a sense constituted by everything else, then it logically follows you have to reject a cause-in-itself, everything is caused by everything else, something Louis Althusser called "overdetermination." The result is that cause and effect run into each other, are reciprocal, and depend upon point of view of how you are looking at a system and what is relevant to you. As Richard Wolff would put it, overdetermination suggests that whatever you identify is a cause says just as much about you as the system itself you are describing.

If the gravity field is observed in the overlap region of the Pdfs then one can't use this data to tell whether the mass went L or R. There can then still be interference. The real problem is Rovelli's initial reaction. Whence the random draw sampling? Who ordered that? I think Oppenheim's group should consider the stochastic hypothesis not as a new principle, but they should look for a reason, a cause for it. I can think of one. Use the sum-over-histories view, and consider all the paths taken as real paths, that'll generate a (classical) superposed gravity field. But the new postulate would be that _not all paths are actually realised,_ just sufficient for the amount of interference nature shows us it needs, and that can probably be reduced down to an even simpler hypothesis. I have an idea for that too.

Finally someone is on the right track without having listened to the rest of the video. This particle travelling in the one dimension allows for c to be constant (a displacement distance), it is able to travel from discrete to continuous and back to discrete nature which gives you equal pathtimes so that c is constant and does away with the illusion of general relativity while keeping everything conserved. Basically using the 2nd and 3rd dimensions to transverse continuously to get to next discrete 1 dimensional point.

The Hilbert space is an infinite dimensional space, in which the dimensions are orthogonal to each other. How can we conceive this. Abstract algebra doesn't help us. Visual Complex Analysis by Tristan Needham does, as it defines the complex number i as the ratio of effect by cause (page 217). It is the only proof that all of the dimensions of Hilbert space is orthogonal to each other, as all cause and effect ate depicted in this space. Having said it, I notice Sean makes effort to understand the QUANTUM THEORY. Although I am not sure he can achieve Einstein's complete quantum formulation.
