You know, after many years of owning this amp, I love what others call "bland" on here. I want to like other amps beyond my simple acoustic amps that I use for archtop guitars and nylon-string guitars, including the usual suspects from Mesa Boogie, Fender, Vox, and, being in Canada, Traynor. I try them out, even take along a couple guitars, usually a Gretsch 6120 and Fender Strat, but I just don't like the clean sound of other amps as much as I like the neutral warm sound, not too chimey, thank goodness, of this amp. It's weird. I don't even play with a plectrum so this amp, theoretically, should not be up my alley at all. However, the simple clean tone operations make it worth trying for others I hope. Perhaps you'll not take to it, but it is a worth a try. The added drive channel can be quite useful even for fingerstyle players not usually into that sort of thing. Sustain is a wonderful option to have on drive channels designed for those with very different ideas on what an amp is for. So I suppose I am admitting that I do like the drive channel for blues tone. That's for sure. I bought my never-had-any-issues yet HT Club 40 years ago because it was not screaming at me when I played it. It is the sort of amp that lets my guitar and my hands do the playing. I never have to wrestle with it. The amp was recommended to me by an old folk guitarist whose shop has since closed. He heard me playing guitar and suggested that I try an amp that he reckoned I would never otherwise try. So I did try it among others, went back to it, bought it, forgot to get the footswitch, which I later had to order as the store had gone out of business. I am an idiot. Anyway, the footswitch was out of stock the day I was in town buying the amp. It did come with the amp. My stupidity not to go back and get it. I have played it on stages, in my studio, in the living room while watching movies, and so on. I suppose that makes it versatile. It also might hint at the fact that I like the sound of it at any volume level. Also, I really love hearing reviews of guitars with active pickups. Contrary to popular belief, you can get some great clean tones out of the very pick ups used in this video. I had an Ibanez ARZ800 for years that I had to part with as it caused problems for my left hand due to the shape of the neck. Still, I played jazz gigs with that guitar. Smooth. People thought that I was crazy, but the proof could be heard. I reckon the creator of the video didn't bother to worry about clean tone as that is not usually the focus of most Blackstar amp owners. As I am an outlier, I thought that I might make a few comments about my experience as I use the clean channel in all its simplicity most of the time.

This seems someone similar sounding to the mkii, it has a focus on the silibant peircing frequencies and it’s not that noticeable on lower volume but when it’s loud it’s not a pleasant experience. The fingers squealing across the strings, clickity clackity type of sounds etc are louder than the music itself. Very harsh and bright. Can’t really dial it out, if you try to scoop it or bump up the bass it just gets too thumpy, it’s just voiced with those frequencies in mind I suppose for being able to cut through and add presence. But it sounds tinny, harsh and sharp. I compared with my marshall and I realized what some people says that I never noticed a ton, that Marshall’s are slightly scooped. Maybe that’s true or maybe this is just too too forward. The Marshall takes those harsh frequencies . After knowing the harshness I can hear it at lower volumes. It may sound bright here and cutting but that’s at a low recorded playback, so it seems okay, This will get exponentially more penetrating and peircing at louder volumes.

Hands down the best amp I've ever owned. I really like the digital reverb with the bright/dark option, as well as the bright/dark clean channel. Some purists might be disappointed that it isn't quite "all tube". It actually uses some mosfets in lieu of traditional cathode followers, which is how it gets such insane gain with only 2 preamp tubes. The mosfets don't actually amplify anything though - they're really just there as impedance buffers to ensure signal loss doesn't occur in the tonestack or any other areas that might attenuate it. Regardless, it sounds fantastic and it's cheap to retube

@@shredders3881 The translated version is that many people turn their noses up at the amp due to not being entirely "full tube". What a lot of people don't realize is that there are often several buffer stages in tube amps that don't really amplify or alter the sound - they're just there to prevent signal loss through the tone stack, etc. Instead of wasting a 12AX7, they use a solid state component that serves the same identical purpose and does it just as well.
