I am doing the exact same thing to my 66 Chevelle. First time i have ever done this type of work before. Its nice finding channels that i can get tips for a project like this. Keep up the great work!!
Life saver!!!
Can i get wanda over here in cali??
Oh, good question...not sure about that.. With all those VOC rules in Cali, you might have to go with Wanda waterborne basecoat.
Fingers crossed this fixes mine.
Thanks...great help. I have a 66 El Camino that I am trying to restore and am looking to sites that will help me with videos pertaining to restoration of this car.
Glad it helped! Good luck with your restoration! Hopefully I'll be getting started on my '65 2-door wagon project in the near future.
I am at this point on my 68 charger. Curious what state or area you are in. Thx.

That's a heat only panel, I've had a couple of these cars and currently have an air conditioned one.
Correct. No one currently reproduces an A/C cowl shoulder panel so I knew that the A/C portion would need to be fabricated when I purchased it. Nonetheless, AMD and others list the panel as an "A/C" panel so for those less experienced, it's good to point this out. My guess is that the A/C version would be too costly to reproduce. Plus, most restorers are converting to AdvantageAir or similar aftermarket AC systems. Thanks for watching!
Thats the problem its pure junk if its not original or NOS Correct GM Assembly Line Parts Its gonna look horrible
For sure. I agree that original or NOS panels are always preferred, but often times they aren't available or even an option so aftermarket sheet metal has to be used. It takes more time/effort, but with the proper fabrication and metal work, aftermarket panels can look just as good. There are plenty of high end restorations out there that look amazing and are 90%+ aftermarket panels. TBH, even the NOS panels that I've used over the years have needed their fair share of help. But, I hear what you're saying.
Nice job i really enjoyed this video
Thanks For watching!
So I'm doing a 67 also. It was in awful shape and mine was all rusted out as well. It just pulled out of the car. Are they welded in from the factory? Or did they just lay in there? Because if they are welded in, I have a little more work to do. I thought they just slid in on top of the dash.
The upper dash panel itself if welded in so you'll need to cut the spot welds out. At 2:35 of the video, I talk about spot welding the panel in place. When removing the old dash panel, you'll need to remove the spot welds in the windshield channel to get the dash out. This is the only place that is welded. The bottom sides of the dash along the kick panel bolt to the dash brackets (which are welded to the kick panel). Good luck with your build!
Thank you!
You bet!
Thanks a bunch. I'm looking at paint now and I didn't think of the chemical resistance that you brought up.
Glad to help
I use Hemi orange and when the engine heat cycles, it will look a little lighter than standard Chevy orange
Thanks for the tip! I might have to give that a try some time.
@@streetclassicFabLab welcome it totally works great I got tired of the weird red looking Chevy orange .
@@streetclassicFabLab I'm also doing another engine job currently with Hi-Tech so I appreciate the tips on your video also 👍
Thank you so much so beautiful
Spray compressor works great
Yes it does!
Thank you so much
As much as those dash tops cost they should fit better than that. I bought one from AMD well before I needed it and just left it in the box. when i went to install it I ran into the same issues that you did along with a defectively installed down piece on the drivers side. when i contacted them they said I had it too long and wouldn't warrantee it even though it had never been installed or altered in any way. Thanks for the video
Yeah, I wish the fitment was better on all this replacement sheet metal, but some fabrication work seems to be par for course in order to get things to fit properly.
Great video, thanks for the thorough explaination of how the system works! I'm wondering how you were able to get the lights so synchronized, both when opening, but also closing (you mentioned that you were able to fix it after the video)? My light Doors open and close well, but one is lagging behind, similar to in the video when you closed the Doors. Would love to get mine working as well as yours!
We ended up replacing some of the vacuum lines and if I remember correctly the vacuum canister/reservoir was also replaced with a new unit. TBH it was a real pain in the neck to get them synchronized (as close as we could).
Good video, it has refreshed my memory to re install the glass on the 67 I’ve been working on, thanks
Glad it helped
I need mine done.. how much would you charge to do this ..I live in Texas though
Came out really nice !
Looks awesome! Even though it's a cheby

Great stuff! Best video on the internet regarding window installation!
Glad it helped!
I needed the part where you adjust ahhh
Thanks for watching!
I disassembled my 67 Chevelle glass having no idea on how to assemble them. Now I know. Thank you very much from Brazil!
que bom que ajudou! Obrigado por assistir!
@@streetclassicFabLab In Portuguese?! Amazing.
Great video and very helpful to someone doing this for the first time. Could you comment on the location and installation for the 2 up-stops
There's a stop at the front of the window frame (2:32) and at the rear on the window guide (2:56). Both are attached with a 7/16 bolt and prevent further upward travel when the stop contacts the door frame. There is a limited adjustment that can be made by moving that stop up or down.
Thanks for awesome videos demonstration for removal and reinstall. Great Job!
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching!
Finding spot welds in a rusty mess is the hardest thing about the repair, right?😅 I can't wait seeing this section done. Dropped you a like :)
I know right? Those spot welds can be real tricky to find sometimes! Thanks for watching!
I love that people are trying leading. It was definitely an art when I was taught. It’s kinda like man discovering fire now.
I've seen too many problems with trying to use modern fillers in quarter panel seams, so I turned to the art of lead soldering as an alternative.
I understand how you want to make the surface super clean. But when you add the tallow to the paddle, what keeps that from contaminating the solder? Do you have to clean off the tallow repair area afterwards so primer and paint will stick? When you go to file it, are there different grade files needed, or can you get by with one like that 8 tpi files. Do you feel lead is easier to work with over the plastic filler?
I know it sounds counterintuitive, but the tallow doesn't cause any contamination issues. It may surprise you that some of the old timers use bees wax or automatic transmission fluid instead of tallow! It must be a thermal/chemistry thing. All I do after applying the lead is rinse the area with a solution of baking soda to neutralize any acid left by the tinning flux. Then I file/shape and follow up with one more baking soda rinse, W&G remover, and then epoxy primer. I don't see the need for any other file than 8-10tpi. Lead is definitely NOT easier to work with in terms of shaping than body filler, but due to the potential risk of being able to see the seam (mapping) later down the road, lead solder (or a welded patch across the seam) is the better option here (IMO).
Yep, Cuda Cody is a good resource. I’ve seen plenty of OE organisol, inconsistency and texture. It really has no angular sheen. Same was on dashes, hoods and tail panels. Wait until you get into the Argent Silver debate with its appearance. 50 plus years and a persons recollections never match up. They were only original once. Nice job!
Oh yes, the Argent Silver debate is a tricky one. Thanks for watching!
From my experience with Organosol is that people use hot rod black or a flat black and people begin to think that is correct for a close Organosol match and it is not. The original Organosol is more of a satin than flat.
Agreed. Hot rod black or flat black just doesn't look right. The key is that Organsiol has some texture to it which really makes it an attractive finish. I typically refer to the sheen as "Zero" degree. Something between flat and satin.
It has held up great and looks fantastic!
The '68 Charger is one of my favorite restorations! I love that QQ1 blue!
Good tips
thanks for watching!
Actually after watching this video I went to go buy one. The only one they had was on display. He started placing it in original containers. He thought the torch could be disconnected and started twisting and twisting as he thought it was supposed to be removable . I knew that could have caused a problem by watching your video. I told him I didn’t want that machine anymore and wanted one never unboxed. So he got me one from one of there other locations. Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks for this great video! Im working on prepping the doors on my '67 Chevelle for paint and despite being a body guy for decades the side glass initially had me stumped. Im so used to seeing glass that has to be slid off the regulator within the door, that I never thought Id be able to roll the glass up past the belt molding
Right on! Glad the video helped!
You helped tremendously I took my 66 apart and was having f trouble throwing it back together. Keep making videos on this.
thanks for watching. I'm slowing trying to upload videos of my '67 build so stay tuned!
Great work there, some years ago I did a restro on my truck using lead 20 yrs later still no issues, I used all metal to slick everything down, rust encapsulate then epoxy primer and emron paint.
Thanks! Yeah, I've always had great luck with lead. I know a lot of people have a negative opinion of using lead, so I'm glad to hear you had a good experience too.
With all the attention to detail and good reasons to avoid filler, why wouldnt you make the body lines out of lead since you're literally right there working that area, so those channels are clean and solid? Seems like it would be the closest to OEM, more durable, easier, less time consuming way to do it?
That's not a bad thought. Lead could probably be used to create the roof skin/quarter body line, but I chose to use VPA instead. As I mention in the video, VPA is a much better option than fiberglass/all metal. I opted not to use lead for a number of reasons 1) lead is harder to file/sand/shape than VPA, especially on that type of body line 2) managing the heat and melting lead while getting a crisp body line can be difficult 3) because the VPA filler is sitting on top of the lead filler, there's little to no risk of mapping due to different rates of expansion like you'd get if the filler was adjacent to virgin metal. Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for the video 👍🏻
thanks for watching!
That seems like an extreme amount of heat on a panel
Just enough heat to get the tinning flux to react with the metal and then to melt the lead. Extreme heat would result in discoloration of the metal and warpage. It’s important to keep the torch moving.
Do the window felts/fuzzies need to come out also to have room to slide the vent glass out?
You shouldn't have to remove the window felts, but you do want to be careful not to damage them if you'll be re-using them. Once the lower adjustment stud/screw clears the window felts, the vent window should slide forward and into position with enough room.
I’m doing this on my 67 GTO and learned that I had to remove the upper door molding. It was blocking the track and I couldn’t get the window high enough to slide it out. The outer window felts/fuzzies are attached to it. Also, I needed to remove the inner felts/fuzzies to help remove the vent window. Suffice it to say, having all the trim removed makes things easier. Fantastic videos, by the way. Super helpful!!
Ausleys Chevelle should have those dash mounting grommets
Ausley's is one of my preferred suppliers but I haven't been able to find the dash mounting hardware kit through them. If you have a link, I'd be happy to include it.
