I just heard two of these calling out in the night in the mountains of Eastern KY while walking my dog. Took me a few minutes of UA-cam videos to find out what it was. They sound creepy at night in the woods alone especially when you hear one call out and another answer much closer to you.

I just noticed I have a barred owl in my backyard and he's beautiful I love the owl calls I heard him 3 times last night So far he's the only barred owl in my backyard I hope to see more barred owls I live in Massachusetts I love nature

Area around my house is lousy with these things. Love to listen to them ask each other who cooks for you. Don't realise just how loud they are until one lets go right above your head- very close proximity makes their calls sound almost inorganic. We love our owls.
