There was a heavy Polish prescence in Pittsburgh Pa.(Polish Hill) Killer would show up on WIIC Channel 11 NBC on Studio wrestling. My great grandparents were from Poland. Kowalski was always one of my favorite wrestlers. Killer Kowalski, Baron Scicluna, George Steele. I liked the bad guys.
Micheals was the real reason why the jets won super bowl III. His defense shut down nfl mvp earl morrall, and held the mighty colts to just 7 points
If you were ever lucky enough to see him in the ring you saw a wrestling machine. Constant stomping, punching, clawing, he never stopped. I’ve never seen a wrestler that never got tired. He was a vegetarian, relentless competitor.
Sucks that was how he'd earned his moniker.
ciec nawet nie potrafi po polsku gadac
He was special!
I remember mark for what he was I feel for everyone the way he went tragic he's doctoring the mound in heaven
"the bird" brought in so much fun to a baseball game. such a great addition to the Tigers.
Killer Kowalski was my favorite growing up..
There are two ways to get recognition in sports. Be very good, or, be very unique/strange. Oh. Sorry, I was wrong. There are 3 ways. You can be both like Mark. You are remembered and missed Mark!
Thats the second famous person I know, she was a teacher at my school
Mistrz.
Luv mark, he was awesome! Great people person with the fans!!!
RIP, Mark

He exemplified the child within the man playing baseball. I was 8 years old when I first saw him talking to the ball and it was just like watching a Picasso paint, or a top musician play music. You knew that while the performance lasted you were witnessing something special and beyond ordinary.
this was my 2nd cousin!!!
RIP Walt Michaels
Same here I first heard about it on Michael kay
the bird
This was back when baseball meant something. The personalities from the 70s were great. Pete Rose, Reggie Jackson, Fidrych, Mike Schmidt, and Al Hrobrosky (or however you spell it) were great for the game. Then, money got huge, the strike and they tinkered with the game by allowing AL to play NL during the season. I HATED the AL. To my 10 year old mind, they were the B team. Man, those were great days.
It's nice to see Mark Fidrych and Al Hrabosky mentioned in the same sentence. If they had pitched for the same team, they would have been unstoppable. RIP Bird.
In a way it could be said Mark Fidrych paved the way for Mark Hamill the following year. And Mark Hamill kept the memory of The Bird in my head all these years.
Tom Gola was a Great Player and coached a very good LaSalle team to a 23-1 record, where 4 of the players went to the pros. Great coach too
“The Man of Steel” was a real good fighter.
Trener Triple H POLISH HONOR
Wiem data Znowu cię spotykam Jak nie u temat wrestling to U Carrionera A teraz tu XD

Nice try but Mark wasn’t known from what you can see in a picture.
Such a good guy. Cooked a great breakfast at Chet's, always nice to see him stop in at the N'bro F&G. RIP Fyd.
the big summer story in 76 with his style and wins,,,very much like fernando valezuela was big in his 1st year with the wild pitching style and wins too
Most of us have had moments where we shined, but not only has Jane went 110% for such a long stretch, but she is a mighty fine good person as well!
Thank Trump,we've got God!
I use to work as a caregiver and i actually met his wife. Told me their love story! It was beautiful!
Mark The Bird---a one yr phenom, and one of most colorful players ever. sad career was so brief, and tragic accident ending his life recently. RIP Bird
R.I.P. Ray Sadecki I'll always remember this ... StL trades Sadecki to SF for Cepeda (1966); StL trades Cepeda to Atl for Torre (1969); StL trades Torre to NYM for Sadecki (1974) !!! How many other guys got traded for a Hall of Famer, TWICE !!!
And she is friends with Nathan Parish
Kocham Kowalskiego
Watching Mark the Bird pitch on TV, and listening summer nights on the radio was great fun as a kid growing up in Detroit. He was an original who didn't even know how unique he was. He was a breath of fresh air to the major leagues, and a very good pitcher. RIP
rip walter
Nicely done. Even though I am a Red Sox fan I always rooted for him. He was something special.
HES from Massachusetts
R.I.P. Ray!
RAY SADECKI was a very nice gentleman who always had time to speak with fans and sign autographs ... He probably deserved a better overall MLB career W - L record although he always did his best and many others would attest to that ... Sadly, 73 years seems like way too young an age to depart the scene nowadays ... Ray will long be remembered by all those of us who met or knew him.

Walt Michaels was one of the greatest New York Jets head coaches. Better than Joe Walton.
RIP
Great Polish wrestler (*)
Joe taught me how to swim back in 1966. Right around the time Ron Eli got the TV Tarzan job.

Just looking for the answer to a bit of NE Philly trivia. Does anyone remember when Tom Gola owned, or at least had his name on a trampoline center/ driving range on Roosevelt Blvd. somewhere north of Cottman Ave? It was in the early 60's, and we used to hang out there, but I can't remember where it was. Anyone know?
First person to do a 360 was Antwan the caveman Flintstone
Everyone knows the first player to dunk was Atug the Neanderthal Johnson
