There was a heavy Polish prescence in Pittsburgh Pa.(Polish Hill) Killer would show up on WIIC Channel 11 NBC on Studio wrestling. My great grandparents were from Poland. Kowalski was always one of my favorite wrestlers. Killer Kowalski, Baron Scicluna, George Steele. I liked the bad guys.

Micheals was the real reason why the jets won super bowl III. His defense shut down nfl mvp earl morrall, and held the mighty colts to just 7 points

If you were ever lucky enough to see him in the ring you saw a wrestling machine. Constant stomping, punching, clawing, he never stopped. I’ve never seen a wrestler that never got tired. He was a vegetarian, relentless competitor.

There are two ways to get recognition in sports. Be very good, or, be very unique/strange. Oh. Sorry, I was wrong. There are 3 ways. You can be both like Mark. You are remembered and missed Mark!

He exemplified the child within the man playing baseball. I was 8 years old when I first saw him talking to the ball and it was just like watching a Picasso paint, or a top musician play music. You knew that while the performance lasted you were witnessing something special and beyond ordinary.

This was back when baseball meant something. The personalities from the 70s were great. Pete Rose, Reggie Jackson, Fidrych, Mike Schmidt, and Al Hrobrosky (or however you spell it) were great for the game. Then, money got huge, the strike and they tinkered with the game by allowing AL to play NL during the season. I HATED the AL. To my 10 year old mind, they were the B team. Man, those were great days.

It's nice to see Mark Fidrych and Al Hrabosky mentioned in the same sentence. If they had pitched for the same team, they would have been unstoppable. RIP Bird.

In a way it could be said Mark Fidrych paved the way for Mark Hamill the following year. And Mark Hamill kept the memory of The Bird in my head all these years.

Watching Mark the Bird pitch on TV, and listening summer nights on the radio was great fun as a kid growing up in Detroit. He was an original who didn't even know how unique he was. He was a breath of fresh air to the major leagues, and a very good pitcher. RIP

RAY SADECKI was a very nice gentleman who always had time to speak with fans and sign autographs ... He probably deserved a better overall MLB career W - L record although he always did his best and many others would attest to that ... Sadly, 73 years seems like way too young an age to depart the scene nowadays ... Ray will long be remembered by all those of us who met or knew him.

Just looking for the answer to a bit of NE Philly trivia. Does anyone remember when Tom Gola owned, or at least had his name on a trampoline center/ driving range on Roosevelt Blvd. somewhere north of Cottman Ave? It was in the early 60's, and we used to hang out there, but I can't remember where it was. Anyone know?
