CB175 - Rebuild or Not?
Переглядів 1 тис.3 роки тому
Major issues discovered are piston damage and a camshaft with a spun bearing. I'm considering whether to rebuild or not, since it has no title. Maybe a dedicated trail bike? Leave your thoughts and ideas below.

How to Build a Motorcycle Wheel Wreath
Thank You.
Hello. I saw your post on Hondatwins, and found your video. I know its been a few years, but I have a 1969 cl175 k0. I was removing the cam shaft, and .... I broke it. It broke at that tiny pin as I was trying to get the cup and spark advancer off. I'm wondering what that pin is even for, and if I get a new shaft (if I can find one) will it have the pin in it? I'm at a loss, as my manual says nothing about this pin. Thank you in advance if you have any information to share.
U could try a much more efficient propane torch to heat up following by cold water....in my experience expension/contraction usually break the bond and loosen even the most seized parts. You have to do the heat/cold cycle as many times as it takes.
Good tip that
Purrs like a kitten. Nicely done!
Thank you! 😊
Strong exhaust sound 👍
It turned out Good considering you saved from the dead
🎉
W u from?
diggin the bike! where did you get that seat? im looking for one that same style for my 175
Good day sir where did you buy your contact igniture
Thanks Dave for the videos on a 175. I have one with a frozen engine. Time to pull her apart.
Should it be level?
Great! Did cooking the pistons work on releasing them?
I just bought a cb175 last week. Your motor (actually your whole bike) is in significantly better condition than mine. I'm in australia and these are very hard to come by. Mine has sat in a shed for a long time, the motor that I got with it has sat for a very long time whilst being apart. I dont really have any choucebut to rebuild what ive got, its not even about the money down here, they are just hard to find. I hope you can get yours back on the road, shit laws youve got over there when it comes to that, i can register anything over as my own as long as it doesnt have a standing police record. Im looking forward to following your progress.
I like the colour of the bike, but don't think the brown seat works, black would be a lot better.
James, thanks for the feedback. It was a different choice to be sure. I was inspired to this color combination for no good reason. The fellow who bought it was pretty pleased.
Progress! That's gotta be a relief to have things apart. How did the oil look when you got the bike?
Michael, the oil was dark. The man that sold it to me found it on his property. He had pictures of the home with the motorcycle sitting on its rear frame back in 1983. Which means that somewhere between then and 1971, 5,382 were put on it and the rear wheel removed! It is entirely possible that the oil dates from over 40-years ago.
You certainly have a challenge ahead of you with this one. Is the frame in decent shape?
You're so right, Michael! I have not done much of a inspection on the entire frame, but it appears straight and unmolested. It has about 5400 miles and I think all the components are in their original location.
Yes, the frame is just fine.
Yes, the frame is just fine.
Watching this has me wishing I had a winter project bike this year. Looking forward to the next video!
Very nice build!!! 👍👍
Is that the original seat pan re-upholstered? If so who did it or wear can I buy one for a cb350
Dave, I have a 1974 CB360 also. It was my dads, been sitting for about 40 years....lol, I'm about to restore it. I wish you would of had more videos of you going through your bike step by step. I would of loved to learn from you. I am going to do my restore by looking at online videos and hopefully it works out...lol.....IF you have any more videos of the bike build please upload. I am going to document my bike build hopefully it will help others because I am sure I will run into problems along the way. Hope I can reach out for advice...thanks
crazy...i just ordered that fender last night. wish i saw this video first, it looks like shit! hahah just kidding! it looks good and i got it intentionally because it looks like itll just clear my tarozzi fork brace just below it. your bike is one of the few 360s that sounds good. valves are good, chain sounds tight enough. my recs are electronic ignition, not sure if u mentioned that, and some thermotec on bottom of gas tank (or drill out gas cap vent more) so u dont boil any gas and get vapor lock, i hear that happens on like..even new bikes and scooters still..
That color looks great with the light brown seat. Nice choice!
It's looking good. I like the jig you made for holding the tank in place while working on it, simple and effective.
Michael Sams thank you for watching. I appreciate your comments. The tank buck has come in handy for several bike builds.
This looks so delicious!!! So glad you shared this recipe with all of us!!!
You are in big trouble mister ! 😂
Great idea! Thanks for sharing! New sub👍
I like the look of the short front fender but I'm not sure it will do much to keep water off you while riding.
Thanks for you input. I agree on the water concern.
These bikes are a lot of fun, I have a stock '74 CB360G and it's one of my favorites.
you have a charging problem, weak battery or rectifier/regulator is shot... high beam illuminates only when over 2k rpm
I own one too can u make a better valve adjustment video
how else would you mount it since the width of the coil doesn't perfectly fit on to the bracket?
I had the same problem
Show us how to set a time on that, I ain't never seen that kind of timing point befor
What years is that is400
nice job! it sounds perfect! if you don't mind I have a couple of questions for you. Did you get oversize rings or just new standard size ones? Did you need any work done on the jugs like boring or honing?
also, maybe a dumb question but what kind of ignition system do you have? I have the same type but it looks different then what the pictures dictate in the manual. And maybe I'm not looking in the right places but I can't seem to find any info on them. thanks in advance!
+Matthieu Devaud Thank you for the props. I honed the cylinders only. This is because I checked the clearances on the piston to the cylinder wall and it was in tolerance, so a clean up only was indicated. This also meant I only had to install replacement standard rings. This bike is equipped with factory standard electronic ignition. I did not attempt any timing modifications. Good luck and get her out on the road!
