      It would serve no purpose on a NA car. Old school ALS needed rotational idle so they would idle somewhat normal and to drop the EGTs. The throttle was open more (jacked throttle) than normal to allow air to pass through the engine to mix with fuel and retarded timing to provide boost off throttle. Without rotational idle the cars would idle at 2-3k.

    does the throttle bypass antilag actually keep the boost up? or is it only minimally effective... Read that audi's throttle bypass system essentially turned the turbocharger into a jet engine, but it kept the car on full boost even when braking lol

      It can, with extra throttle kick. In this example, throttle is not kicked, and only full IAC duty is used. That's about 12 to 13% throttle kick, if I kicked that much as well it would have positive relative boost between gears, in the manifold.

      Stock USDM '03 WRX 16 bit Drive by Cable ECU Modified Carberry ROM Spliced SPDT swiitches into ECU harness to utilize status pins. Pins are either grounded, seeing 0v for one status or open at 10+v for the other status. When ECT is above 176 and the ALS switch grounds out the ECU pin and a new set of open loop fueling, idle request, and idle timing is employed along with massive amounts of idle air control valve duty. The IAC is the throttle bypass in this situation. To get a more dramatic effect of ALS, i could also employ throttle kick. Launch control cuts one of one events above 4200 rpm, and resumes timing at -15 degrees just between 4000 and 4200 RPM while holding throttle and under 6 mph

    What were you using to kick the throttle? I've heard of people using a GM throttle kick solenoid, and clearly you are more clever than just adjusting the stop screw haha.

      Not using throttle kick. People think that somehow throttle kick adds rotational idle. It does not. There are some tables which have a y axis of throttle volts. I'm setting up launch control not for launch control, but rotational idle by repurposing the tables for it. Rotational idle involves cutting of fueling or spark events, and throttle kick does not implement that.

      @@jonathandilley2934 I fully understand what rotational idle is, when it's used, and how it works. Maybe you're using a different system than I thought to implement these changes, as the system I'm working with would require more air than the iacv could produce to efficiently run rotational idle. That is why I need to find a solution to kick the throttle manually, as I cannot do it on the ecu side. Edit: re read your reply, I see what you are doing now by using the launch control and throttle position tables to achieve the desired effect. While you may not be able to help me on my specific endeavors, I would like to know how you wired in those switches to control what looks to be throttle opening and ignition/spark cut

      @@matt.martin sorry, most new tuners (people who might respond to this sort of thing, but not necessarily you) who use the Carberry ROM on 16-bit ECU Drive by cable Subaru ECUs, somehow have the perception that throttle kick enables rotational idle so the best rotational idle with full IAC duty (by way of ALS) I have found that is for also a median of sorts, where airflow is high enough (13 to 15 g/s around 1100 - 1200 rpm on my 1994cc 4banger) and fueling is low enough to help drop IAT/ECT, but it's fuel cut to also not wash everything out. 6 of 9 fueling events cut at 23 degrees BTDC, 13.5:1 gas AFR (premium, e10) with LC deactivation below 1000 rpm. standard compression ej20, non-avcs ej205 variety. This is just enough of everything while having the lowest RPM possible, to cool both ECT and IAT (measured as manifold air charge temp) because I need the extra IAC duty for it to work, and ALS tables provide this, and launch control overrides some settings, the left LC switch only grounds the ECU pin that is responsible for the status change, if the ALS switch is up and also grounding it's ECU pin. normal operating temp of the ECT sensor is 187F - 192F at moving cruise, not idling and heat soaking, fans oscillate normal operation and keep ECT below 203F generally, while sitting ALS is disabled below 176F and above 206F if ECT is above 176F but the vehicle isn't technically up to all operating temps, rotational idle won't stay rotating, it'll drop to normal firing below 1000 rpm, thus telling me I don't need it's usage. if ECT goes above 206F, and you have ALS switch up, but LC is down, ALS is off - it's beyond the threshold for activation. but the pin is grounded, and so if LC is up and ECT is > 206F, it won't have the IAC duty but it will work with some pedal or if I had it throttle kicked to provide rotational idle. on the carberry ROM, if you move the base throttle volts up by way of the set screw, and then reset the ecu, it will run a different portion of tables for some things. you don't necessarily need ALS active, but that's where you can play with idle timing, idle fueling, and IAC duty. oh, and P=VnRT because blow off valve

      @@jonathandilley2934 been a while, abandoned my idea of using an old gm throttle kick solenoid to give me more air. Just isn't working the way I want. I did try your method using lc to effectively enable rotational idle, but trying to figure out how to make the fuel cut a little more randomized. How does the ecu calculate when to cut x events from y? What would 30 from 45 for example be like as opposed to 6 from 9? If it cuts sequentially that seems like it would be an issue. I think Jason was working on that quite some time ago too. Wifey for some reason loves coding in assembly, maybe I can interest her in cars just long enough to have her look. Also I'm assuming your two switches are wired direct to ecu pins (maybe the left in series with the right too?), but I really only have 1 available pin, A1 I believe. Do you happen to know if splicing into the rear defogger pin will mess up the logic for the defogger itself? I do happen to use it from time to time and I want to keep the car as stock as possible functionality wise. Also working on making ALS a tad more aggressive, it's not quite giving me what I want. Seem to only be giving myself about 4 less inHg vacuum as opposed to net zero or positive boost. I'm thinking it's an airflow problem, thoughts?

    Is this the carberry ROM? Do you mind sharing your settings like how much the throttle is kicked?

    • @jonathandilley2934
      @jonathandilley2934 5 років тому

      in this video and the other one which came later, neither was using throttle kick. In order to enable throttle kick, you have to reset the ECU so that the new, higher throttle base voltage is registered as base, and I'm not a fan of that procedure. So to get rotational idle, since it's not naturally in Carberry and was never implemented (while it was planned) I'm reusing launch control for the cutting events to enable functional rotational idle. if you want screenshots of settings, you can find me on facebook and DM me or PM me on romraider, at jon7009.
