How to build biogas scrubbers at home
Getting my biogas scrubbers working is one of the last tasks in my new setup. I have always wanted to have the scrubbers and gas storage in the strawbale shed but until now it wasn't possible. With space now available I took the chance to upgrade the biogas scrubbers one more time, hopefully it will be the last. I really like these as they are easy to change, you can see in side them and they are relatively simple to install.

A cosy house for the digester // Any good biogas digester in a temperate climate needs a cosy home
Переглядів 4 тис.2 роки тому
A biogas digester in these temperate climates needs a good house to keep it nice and warm. In these climates the digester will need to be heated most of the year so to try and make it as efficient as possible, and set it up so I can use a small solar system in the future, I have gone big! I have at least 30cm of insulation all around and more on top. All of the materials, apart from the screws ...
Its full of crap!
Переглядів 14 тис.2 роки тому
Now my biogas digester is setup it is time to fill it up! This means a lot of cow manure. Its not a very exciting process but one I thought I would share with you all as it is a small, but important part of creating a working biogas digester at home. To start my digester I am using cow manure and water. I am trying to keep the ratio at least 50:50, if not a bit more cow manure to water. Once th...

I have incredibly reached 1k subscribers in under a year! I wanted to take the time to thank you all for taking the time to watch my videos and to do a quick recap of the year and share a few thoughts at this interesting time of the year. Autumn or fall is a time when most things slow down, the colours get warmer and temperature gets cooler. Its a good time for reflection and giving yourself so...
I upgraded my biogas scrubbers // Purify your biogas
Переглядів 23 тис.3 роки тому
I was worried my biogas scrubbers were not working properly or leaking my hard earned biogas so I decided to upgrade my system. I show you the process and show you all the parts I used to upgrade my biogas system so I know all the biogas I produce is now definitely all getting purified and into my gas storage bag.
I can't believe it's come to this...

Throughout my strawbale build I have had the occasional rat issue, mostly down to not moving forward fast enough, leaving materials around for rats to get into. When I finished plastering the building I thought it was all sealed up, but apparently it is not! After spotting some alarming signs I decided it was time to finally deal with the rat issue for good. Chapters: 0:00 Intro 2:10 Assessing ...
How I emptied and moved my Biogas digester
Переглядів 1,7 тис.3 роки тому
Sometime your biogas digester is not in the right place, but when they are full they are almost impossible to move. As I have been building the current location of my digester is not ideal so in this video I empty the digester so I can move it to its new home. My digester does not have a drain valve so I experiment with a few ways to remove the digestate. I also give my biogas digester its firs...
Lime and Clay Natural plaster // Burnishing
Переглядів 2,9 тис.3 роки тому
Lime and clay plaster is an amazing material to work with. It has taken me some time to really feel comfortable with it, so I can get the best out of it. In this video I show you how I get what I would call a rustic burnished finish on the final coat of lime and clay plaster on my strawbale build. I go through the steps in the application process and give my recipe for the lime and clay plaster...
Floor, doors, plastering and more // Strawbale Build PART
Переглядів 3373 роки тому
Progress is being made! A lot of progress. It's been a few weeks since my last video but I wanted to make sure I have something a bit substantial to show you all. As I have mentioned before learning about all the techniques and little points to do with this style of natural building has meant I am going pretty slow. I feel it is paying off though and hopefully you can see that the build is look...
First wall finished // Boarding & Plastering inside // Strawbale build IX
Переглядів 2663 роки тому
Another Strawbale build update. Big milestone, one wall is finished! Natural building is a slow process, so I am learning. With the weather, sourcing materials and waiting for plaster to dry it can't be rushed. This week we have been really pushing to get it to a stage where all the walls are first coated and inside is complete. We tried at least...
Strawbale Build Update: Plastering and boarding // Strawbale Build PART VII
Переглядів 3563 роки тому
A quick update about my strawbale build. Its a slow old process but some serious progress is being made. I have learnt a lot about natural building during this build, especially plastering. I've got a lot faster and it is turning out much better.
Rats, plastering and camera issues // Strawbale Build Part VI
Переглядів 4563 роки тому
It's been a bit of a long month with the plastering of the strawbales. I guess natural building can go like that. This is an update of the progress, unfortunately I have had some technical issues (and a holiday) so haven't been able to do as much as I would have liked. Hopefully this will get you up to speed with where I am at with the whole build.
Experimenting with Natural lime plasters // Part II // Test results & first wall
Переглядів 2,1 тис.3 роки тому
The recipe for lime & clay plaster will vary depending on the site. I have done some experimenting with the clay on my site to find out what would be the best recipe for my strawbale build. Using natural plasters like clay and lime plasters is relatively simple but can seem a little daunting when first starting, it did to me. The best way to get over that is to experiment with small patches and...
How to make a wood-fired cob pizza oven from scratch // Make delicious stone baked pizza at home
Переглядів 2,7 тис.3 роки тому
Low-tech wood-fired pizza oven build. I absolutely love homemade stone baked pizza, so I built myself a cob pizza oven. Here I go through the whole process from building the base, to the oven itself. I hope to show that it is really easy and does not cost much, if anything at all. You can make an oven from dirt and salvaged materials. The wood-fired oven gives the pizzas a great taste and cooks...
