Beautifully said! I so needed this. Thanks so much!
I'm so glad you were encouraged! 💗
Teachers Pay Teachers has a lot of good curriculum, some free.
I absolutely love that idea of wrapping books for bedtime story. So lovely! 🙌☺️
It really is one of our favorite traditions!
That is such a cute tree Maryann! 😍 Love the gingerbread men on it:) I love this time of year. 🙏🏻 🙌🏻
@@rikkib7636 thank you! Yes, it's really the best season ever!
I agree with you Maryann. God has put us in this world to be a light for Him and enjoying the season our world has set aside as a celebration of His birth is a way of honouring Him. Making sure our children understand the reason for the season and participating within reason in the general activities is not a bad thing at all. We all need to work out our own level of participation just like we need to work out our own salvation. God will lay particular things on each of our hearts knowing our personalities and what may cause us to stumble. These are not intended best practices for everyone. I encourage you to continue to be that light for Jesus and share to us all what is on your heart. Love you❤❤
Thank you for the comment, I agree :) ❤️
Hi Maryann, Jesus said how we should remember Him. Christmas is very worldly. He wasn't born then, He wasn't probably born in the winter. Maybe you can chooce next year to put some winter decorations as if you put fall deco and deco every season. Ask God what you should do. He convinced me to not go along with all of it, because of the busyness and the wordlyness. I really don't want to be harsh. You seem a lovely mom and person. Have a nice day (sorry for al my typo mistakes)
Thanks for your comment. I realize that the timing of Christmas doesn't represent His exact birthday. But I personally have never felt any conviction about celebrating in the way we do. However, if that's something you have personally felt convicted about, then you're doing the right thing by listening. For us, Christmas is a celebration of Jesus and we love it! :) I respect your opinion though, and I also hope you have a lovely day!
It's beginning to look a lot like......"nicey nicey things" :D
Haha 100%!! 😁💗
I like the explanation of how to hang the greenery and your thought process as you decorate… and music 🎶 thank you
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😊
For the tree skirt, you can get ones for mini trees now, your tree is probably the same width as some of those 1ft-3ft trees. Also you could try putting it in a basket or planter. You can take the base off and use floral foam or styrofoam if the base doesn't fit
Those are great ideas! Thank you! 😊
Just found you. I love it. Great job. Cozy, comfy and inviting.
Thanks so much for being here! 😊
Love it! So cozy.
Thank you! 💗
She did so good on the dollhouse decor! Loved that. I have 3 boys, and they each have a little tree in their room this year. I can’t wait to see how they decorate them. It’s so fun being a mom who brings the magic♥️🎄
Oh that's awesome! Yes, being the mom is the best! 💗
The dollhouse decorations are SO CUTE
She really does such a great job! I will pass your comment along to her :)
Superb, loved it.
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful family vlog ❤ thanks for sharing.
Thank you! 🌲
That was so, so good Maryann! Just getting around to watching the rest of this video. I appreciate that you share about calling out to the Lord for guidance about things you’re dealing with. He is faithful to answer which I can attest to. I put my pride aside and got curriculum at my boys levels and I’m so glad I did. You’re right, it does make it easier for us moms 😅 while also being doable for the kids. 😊 Thank you for sharing. 💕
That's so great to hear! Thank you for being here and I'm so glad you were encouraged by the video. 💗
Definitely have felt these five!! We are all still learning. I remind myself that daily. And prayer. ❤

New subscriber!😊 Fellow homeschoolers. 😀
Yay! Thanks for being here :)
Thanks for sharing part of your homeschool morning routine Maryann:) I like that different curriculum companies have levels not grades. If any of my kids progress faster (not counting on it) we’ll go to the next level instead of waiting til the school year is over. Did you mention in a previous video if you school year round or take Summers off? I have to ask, when your son was doing the movements (raising hand, tapping, standing on one leg), is that to get some energy out? 😅 Couldn’t help think of my oldest, Isaac, who always has lots of energy, ha. I also have a Rebekah, but she’s just four, lol:).
We take the summers off! We all enjoy the break, and I find we need it. And yes, often when we're nearing the end of our school morning and I see that he needs to move, I will have him do things like that because it actually helps him focus better than forcing him to sit does. I believe there's value in teaching children that there's a time and a place to sit still, but I'm also a HUGE believer that kids need to move and be active! Especially little boys! So we do stuff like this often and just the act of moving helps him absorb the information and focus so much better! :)
@@SimplyHomeAndFamily I’m going to keep that in mind. My 3 school age kids are boys and they all have a lot of energy 😅🙈
Completely agree
Just found your channel. We homeschool at our kitchen table and just use our bookshelves to take from , it needs to work and be functional. Appreciate your mention of homeschool spaces vs these fancy ones.
Awesome, thanks for being here! :)
Thank you for sharing, it really does inspire me. We have had a muddled September due to me needing to work for 3 weeks for my husband company. Really looking forward to October when I can be 100% involved in home schooling
I hope you have a great year!
Love all of this
Hi Maryann! This is just what I needed:) I’ve been so excited the past couple days to start homeschool Monday (tomorrow). Then I open my Amazon box of curriculum from Easy Peasy all-in-one homeschool and I start panicking a little 🙈 😅
You will be just fine!! ❤️
Send all the curriculum books by post please so I don't have have to by them thanks so much
My mom homeschooled us and she didn't use an set curriculum. But I do agree with you it means your going to spend a lot of time with your children. For example to teach us to read she started the moment we were babies reading to us whatever she was reading. She would hold Us in her lap and point at the words bouncing her finger for every syllable. We called it the moving finger. That's how she was taught to read. And it took a lot of time but with little effort. In fact I don't remember not being able to read. When we where starting to talk she started to teach us how to make the different sounds that make up speech. She also used phonics so we could learn the phonetic pronunciation of things. So by the time we were three years old we where mistaken for older children because of our speech. Mom was in speech therapy since she was a baby due to inheriting an speech impediment. My dad love geology and had a rock garden in the backyard with all of his Rock specimens. We used to go digging around in the dirt and find them. And he would tell us all about what we had discovered and where he got it.
I love this!! Your parents sound amazing! It sounds like they were extremely attentive and intentional!
I appreciate how much freedom we have to home educate in this Province. I like as little government meddling as possible 😅 Great video, I enjoyed hearing how you approach grading:)
Thank you :)
Thank you for sharing your struggles. I can definitely relate to these. 😅
Hi Maryann, I just stumbled across your channel and was happy to see you’re a fellow Nova Scotian HS mom 😄 I was contemplating The Good and the Beautiful for Math (before the Halifax Libraries went on strike 😭😅). I get a lot of stuff printed off there, very economical. I’m checking out Easy Peasy All in One Homeschool now. Still deciding. Anyways, I enjoyed hearing about your picks and look forward to checking out more of your content 😄
@@rikkib7636 Hi! Oh wow I love that you're local to us! Yes...the strike is definitely making things tricky, I feel you there! We really love TGTB math and it works so well for my son because it's so activity based. Thank you for being here! :)
Thanks for explaining it . I was wondering exactly what it is . That seems to be how I’m doing things so far and what makes the most sense to me. I was a former teacher and I’ve seen a lot of negativity so I think I’ve kind of craved the complete opposite of how school is. My son is 3 and autistic. Near impossible to get him to sit down and no way he’ll do paperwork . That’s just not how he learns . I follow my states guidelines they follow in school & create lots of opportunities for learning in a most natural way possible . 😊 You made a lot of good points . And definitely best to do what’s best for the kid and not get stuck in one way of doing things . Constant flexibility
@@Rose-2100 Thank you for your comment. I always find it so interesting when homeschool parents are former teachers, and they go the opposite way of the schools. It just goes to show that one size truly doesn't fit all!
We are almost unschoolers, we focus on the kids interests and talents with a bit of what I want to add thrown in. I have a child who could tell you anything about space science and do math in his head before he even learned to read, and another who doesnt do well with bookwork but learned how to do coding and other technology stuff by watching videos and can take almost anything apart to fix it and put it back together, a hands on learner. They both were "behind" in school because they werent able to sit at a desk all day and do paperwork, now they are learning by leaps and bounds in ways that work for their learning styles and they love what they are learning about. And yes we do use some curriculum, I have 4 different curriculums picked for this year so far
Amazing! You sound exactly like the "intentional" parent I was referring to. I love your story because I know that if my son had ever attended public school, he would have been "behind" for those same reasons. But with homeschooling and attention paid to his learning style, he's excelling! Great job Mamma!
There’s pros and cons to everything. Unschooling was simply a term coined for children not taught in public schools as I came to understand in John Holt’s book. We are an eclectic homeschooling family. To do what the intentional “unschooling “ style would require a lot of exposure to different things, ie museums, etc. We live very rural so we wouldn’t be able to fully expose our children beyond books or internet which would take away some of the hands on approach in my opinion. We know folks who “unschool” with little hands on schooling, kids can read okay. When those same children are put into a situation where it’s required to do written work such as math or sit for any length of time, they struggle. I believe that having traditional schooling mixed in with experience or hands-on activities and the ability to expand studies where the children want to go is truly well rounded education provided by parents. Blessings, Linda
Well said! 👏
Grew up rual and was homeschooled. My parents took us to museum, zoos, historicaly sights and parks every trip or vacation. We even had two summers of zoo school at the zoo 30 minutes away from our house. That was really fun because i had classes in the morning and my sister had them in the afternoon. So basically my dad and us spent 8 hours every day at the zoo and we ate lunch in the park. And we would walk from moms workplace and back every day which was a few miles walk. Dad was able to do this because he ran an online business. My parents where friends with other homeschool parents and so i didn't just learn from my parents but from others. I also got invited to different trips with friends like going fishing and hiking. And we read a lot of books and watched an bunch of documentaries and natural geographic videos that where borrowed from the library. We had an bunch of grade books at home to do work in and read but we never signed up for an curriculum or was in any type of correspondence School. Mom was the organized one with school work and dad well he just had us read a lot and be active.
This was an answer to so many desperate prayers. Thank you 🙏🏼
Oh you're so welcome! I'm glad it was helpful!
Great ideas! The art tape you mentioned is called washi tape 🦋
Good to know!! ☺️
Thank you. That was helpful
I'm so glad! :)
Can we name that there’s multiple biblical perspectives on dinosaurs? Like, lots and lots of religiously rigorous Christians affirm an old earth/Big Bang theory of creation and that does not have to be diametrically opposed to scripture and our Christian walk. Young Earth creationism is not the only Christian worldview, and I would argue that saying that there is a singular biblical view is unfair to the Bible and to the many different walks of Christian faith. (OK, comment over.)
@@BrekkeEl To be clear, Gather Round doesn't claim that young earth creationism is the only Biblical worldview. They are very clear on the fact that there are many different worldviews (even Biblically). They are clear about the fact that even though they approach it from a Young Earth standpoint, that not all Christians view it that way. And they leave it up to the parents to decide what direction to take it with their children. Hope this clears it up for you.
Loooved this video and your curriculum picks seem solid! Hope you guys have a great year!!!
