To be honest it really sounds like his voice is very sore, regardless of the boozing. To me it sounds like that's why he's missing lyrics cos he just can't get to those notes? Anyway, it makes me sad how Nate and Mike keep going bravely - they seem like such good guys and so bloody talented. I love you Bright Eyes and always will.

Straight up heartbreaking

His throat hurts and he's exhausted from trying to work through it. Sure, maybe there's some legitimacy to other concerns, but that's not nearly the full picture. He's overworked from practicing new songs with some new band members. He said he quit smoking a month before the residencies. He probably didn't for this, and he's regretting it. Hence some depressing rambling. Also, some of his songs are coping mechanisms for things that have gone wrong in his life. That's why they're relatable. It's not only the good, but also the bad and the ugly. I'm sure publicly stirring up memories of the bad and the ugly on a nightly basis doesn't come easy.

This reminds me of the videos of Elliott Smith that started popping up of his last few shows. He would forget lyrics, stop signing mid verse, and mutter random thoughts. Hope he pulls out of this.

This show started so promising. I can’t believe how quickly it derailed

Really sad experience last night. He was in a similar state the last time I saw them in Atlanta on the ‘Down in the Weeds’ tour. Hope he can pull it together for his own wellness. I felt for the other guys in the band last night.

This was the most uncomfortable show I've ever seen. I really hope he gets help. I felt so bad for the rest of the band.

I'm just so saddened by this, both as a human being and as a fan.

It would be an immense relief if an announcement was made that the tour was postponed and that he was checking into treatment. It's painful seeing him like this.

Personally think this one of the most well written Bright Eyes tunes. Hope they do this duet again, Phoebe seemed under-prepared but I know she could throw some incredibly original harmonies over top.
