Keeping Jesus in the Center
January 19, 2025 | Freedom in Christ | Pastor Marty Rietgraf | Galatians 2:1-21
Marty’s sermon, "Keeping Jesus in the Center," draws a vivid parallel between life and a merry-go-round: the farther you are from the center, the harder it is to hold on. Through the lens of Galatians 2, Marty emphasizes that keeping Jesus at the center of our faith, compassion, relationships, and lives is essential. He explains the struggles of the early church to grasp the inclusion of Gentiles in God’s plan, highlighting Paul’s bold defense of the gospel of grace. Marty challenges us to evaluate our lives, ensuring every area aligns with the gospel, keeping Christ as the unwavering focus and foundation.

[date] | Freedom in Christ | Pastor Mark Smith | Galatians 1:11-24 Mark’s sermon highlights our universal need for God’s grace, using Paul’s life as an example. Paul was both "too bad" in his sins and "too good" in his self-righteousness, yet neither disqualified nor earned his salvation-it was God’s grace alone. Paul’s response to grace was a life of obedience and mission, showing that grace i...

January 5, 2025 | Freedom in Christ | Pastor Ross Harrison | Galatians 1:1-12 Pastor Ross opens the Freedom in Christ series with a reminder that there is only one true gospel-salvation through Christ alone by grace through faith. In Galatians 1, Paul warns against false teachings that add requirements to the gospel, such as religious rituals or works. These distortions enslave rather than set ...

Because of Christmas | Pastor Ross Harrison | Verse Marty's sermon examines three responses to the gift of Jesus in Matthew 2:1-12. Herod reacts with unwelcoming hostility, driven by a desire to maintain power and control. The religious leaders show indifferent neglect, possessing knowledge of the Messiah but failing to act or seek Him. In contrast, the Magi demonstrate worshipful surrender, tr...

12/15/24 | Because of Christmas | Pastor Ross Harrison | Luke 1:26-38 Ross’s sermon, "Because of Christmas… I Surrender My Plans," based on Luke 1:26-38, emphasizes the necessity of surrendering our personal plans to God’s greater purpose. Reflecting on Mary’s response to the angel Gabriel, Ross draws a parallel between his own journey of transitioning to senior pastor-a role he hadn’t planned ...
There are many parallels between the New Testament and the deuterocanonical books. Take 10 minutes to look these up: Matthew 18:32-35 & Sirach 28 1-7 Matthew 7:15-20 & Sirach 27:6 Matthew 6:19-21 & Sirach 29:11-12 Matthew 24:15 & 1Mac 1:54 Matthew 5:30 & 2Mac 7:4 Luke 6:27-35 & Tobit 4:15 Ephesians 6 & Wisdom 5:17-20
Doesnt seem like enough for me. The final judgment isnt until the end. It hasnt happened yet...for anyone. Its kinda complex (because there are two judgments in scripture...see Sam Hoyt's book Judgment Seat of Christ which clears this all up). But 'the dead' are not judged until the Great White Throne judgment, where the books are opened and they are judged by their works. They will have their day in court and a chance to defend themselves. But sadly unless they have Jesus as advocate and savior, their works and justification wont be enough. Ive been queationing the Lord on whether will be there...because they are already previously judged at the Judgment Seat of Christ...where awards are given as an Olympic style judgment of how believers ran the race. But will we be at Great White Throne too? Either as judges ourselves or will we be there with Jesus as our defense at at point. Scripture does say Great White Throne is for 'the dead'. So perhaps at that point we will judge angels and so on. But back to the matter. God revealed to me that hell is like a penalty box...like in hockey. Look at the psalms. David often talked about being delivered from the pit. He said that God would not leave his soul in hell. He didnt say he wouldnt ever go there. In fact he said God would take him through the valley of the shadow of death. In the Hebrew that is 'the abode of the dead'. And that even if he were to make his bed there that God is still there. Ask any addict or major sufferer if theyve been through hell even while alive in the flesh and they can relate. David, the man after God's own heart, seems to talk a lot about sheol in the psalms. Psalms 86:13 - For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol. Scripture clearly affirms that God is there and can reach us even if we are there. And thats just with the old testament. Using Lazarus and the rich man...there was no bridge for the rich man. But Jesus is that bridge. I would find Luke 16 as a fascinating study. It was spoken to the Pharisees...who were trusting in Moses and Abraham for their salvation. They had no bridge. Christ had not yet died. Notice how many times the Lord laid the law so heavy to extremes when talking to the Pharisees, yet had unlimited grace toward sinners. In fact, Jesus said it would be impossible for ANYONE to he saved. Abraham and Moses cant do it. We cant do it. But with God all things are possible. And being delivered from hell would fit that category under 'all things'. So both of those reasonings dont seem sufficient to me. Let me say this though...hell might deeply motivate people to want to get out. But it is tough to get out. Again ask any addict about coming out of hell. I would say that even hell and punishment could be an instrument of Gods mercy. He lets people experience their distance and 'freedom' from him and to experience the full measure of what they want, along with the pain of it. With the hope that the pain and suffering will get their hearts to turn. In a sense they are judged to hell as explained in the gospels...where the tormentors are. But that isnt rhe final judgment. Im still working this out and seeking the answers. I welcome thoughts and feedback. God bless and love you guys.
Is God's name Yaweh, Yahuah? Watched videos by Lew White, Jon Truth and another that showed it is in our DNA. 10 5 6 5. Yhwh in Hebrew. Also saw where it was said Yahuah is Yahusha. Yahusha Messiah in human form. Also that the traditional holiday's are Pagan.am made. There is 7 feasts in the scriptures. Sorry I have came at you with a lot. Want to know the truth from scriptures. It is said I come in my name and you do not know me, if another comes in his name it is him you will receive. I want to know him by his real name. Yahusha Messiah was the human form of Yahuah and was the one who shed his blood for us. There is only one. In scripture it states he gave his esteem to no one. That there is one and only one Alohim. Please explain, open mind and heart to learn over here. Replaced his name with Ba'al= Lord. It is said it is found in Hebrew thousands of times his name. I am having trouble finding that. God , Jesus are dietys as well as Bible and shouldn't be used. Thanks for your time!

Why are men speaking to this subject 🙄
Thank you for trying to appease women, but the women who really seek the truth know it. God loves and prefers men. It’s ALL over the Bible. No apologetics can fix the truth. The best I can be as a woman is a helpmeet to my husband and be his crown. I can be a pretty little fool. Women don’t truly get to have agency nor a voice except here. So, I thank you for that. God bless.
I have been wondering about this because I have unusually lost contact with my friend in France of 20+ years since over a year ago, and I know she had been suffering very deeply from depression for many years. I tried to let her know with encouragement over the years about how I cope with my own issues is with my faith in God. So I have been thinking about whether or not she might not be living here on earth any longer.. and I wonder about praying for her... I felt like I should, but I also thought what good would it do, or what difference would it make for her at this point, if she already died. 😢
What are your thoughts on nlt bible i try to use but i has some missing verse compared to my nkjv can you give your thoughts on this this

It's disturbing that you say we can't know the truth about Revelation and end times. What do you think Revelation means?
😅😅
😂😂😂
I would add that the works a believer does points others towards Christ.
So what I have been told concerning the return of Christ is that there are 4 views. Premil, Amil, Postmil, and full blown Preterism, which is actually heresy. Is this correct???
Tune in text week for the breakdown of the views!

Revelation 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!" ... Those that in the Lord will be in heaven when they die. Those that are not in the Lord will perish when they die no matter how much we pray.
The New Testament includes a likely example of praying for someone who has died. Paul prays for a man named Onesiphorus, asking that "the Lord grant him mercy on that Day" (2 Timothy 1:18). He mentions Onesiphorus's family twice but never greets Onesiphorus himself and only talks about him in the past. Because of this, many experts believe Onesiphorus was dead, and Paul was praying for him after his death.
I know for a fact that we do have Old Testament readings in Catholic Mass from the book of Sirach.
First thank you for what you do bringing the word of God. I served eight years in the Marines and Desert Storm combat veteran.i don’t know if you have the complete picture of war.we as a solider don’t have the option of choosing or believing were we are sent to fight is a justified conflict.when the fighting starts and in the end we fight for the brothers at our side.what people don’t understand is it’s not all black and white, there is a huge gray area.a lot of the ones we are fighting don’t want to be there as much as us.having to take a child’s life because the enemy uses and forces them is a guilt I don’t wish on anyone.taking a life is something very serious and changes you. Now in my fifties I struggle with this.when I die and go before God for judgement and he ask why did you kill my children,we are all his children, what do I say it was my job?lets be honest murder is murder or killing is killing.they are the same. When I served I was saved but not as strong in the faith as I am now.i think of what Jesus said to love your enemies and live by the sword die by the sword.i have prayed for forgiveness to God for what I have done but to be honest I find it very hard to forgive myself. Again thank you for bringing the word and starting a conversation about Gods word
It says that scripture is useful but nowhere does it say we are to follow scripture alone. The Catholic Church determined what books went into the Bible. The Catholic Church existed 3 centuries before the New Testament was compiled.
Thanks for engaging with our podcast. In Acts 17 the Berean church was praised for daily examining the scriptures to see if what Paul said was true. It is God’s written word that must be our final authority. You can continue this conversation by emailing me directly mark@ehope.org
I agree with everything you said, except for the third sentence. “ It is God’s written word that must be our final authority”. It does not follow that if the Bereans were checking scriptures daily, that makes it the ultimate authority. I’m not saying that it’s not crucial, but it seems to me if there are different traditions that don’t come up with the same conclusions about the Bible in every aspect, it nullifies Bible alone. There would have to be a traditional way for you to understand the Bible and how to read it. There isn’t a Christian alive, who comes to believe what they believe by only using the Bible. At some point, they’ve got some guidance from somebody who has their own ideas about what it says. A lot of people are wrong on what they think. You pretty much have to go back to the church that originally acknowledged what books belong in the Bible and actually assembled it in the first place. I think there was an effort to reinvent scripture and it was finally accomplished in the 1800s when the seven deuterocanonical books were pulled out to save money on paper. How thrifty.
Can you tell me who it was that determined what books went into the Bible? The real question is who gives you the authority to remove 7 books?
Question is who gives you authority to add them ??? The catholic church is not God, so if they added them then who gave them the authority?? The pope is not god soo however you see it is the same way of who gave those people that ADDED to the Bible the authority. Even thought the Bible says to not add or take away. Funny how God put this in the scripture, because he knew SOME PEOPLE would add or take away from it.
@@Rafael-e5w3w “The fact is that the Holy Spirit guided the Catholic Church over time to recognize and determine the canon of the New and Old Testaments in the year 382 at the synod of Rome, under Pope Damasus I. This decision was ratified again at the councils of Hippo (393) and Carthage (397 and 419). You, my friend, accept exactly the same books of the New Testament that Pope Damasus decreed were canonical, and no others. “Furthermore, the reason you accept the books you do is that they were in the Bible someone gave you when you first became a Christian. You accept them because they were handed on to you. This means you accept the canon of the New Testament that you do because of tradition, because tradition is simply what is handed on to us from those who were in the faith before us. So your knowledge of the exact books that belong in the Bible, such as Philemon and 3 John, rests on tradition rather than on Scripture itself! “The question you have to ask yourself is this: ‘Where did we get the Bible?’ Until you can give a satisfactory answer, you aren’t in much of a position to rely on the authority of Scripture or to claim that you can be certain that you know how to accurately interpret it. “After you answer that question-and there’s really only one answer that can be given-you have some other important questions to ask: ‘If the Bible, which we received from the Catholic Church, is our sole rule of faith, who’s to do the interpreting?’ And ‘Why are there so many conflicting understandings among Evangelicals and Fundamentalists even on central doctrines that pertain to salvation?’”
@@Rafael-e5w3w Regarding the Bible saying not to add or take away: The Bible contains warnings about adding or removing from its contents (Deuteronomy 4:2, 12:32; Revelation 22:18-19). However, these passages don't necessarily support the claim that there can be no other sources of revelation outside of the Bible. The Deuteronomy verses were originally addressing the Israelites' adherence to the Mosaic Law. They emphasize obedience to God's commands without alterations. But they don't imply that there can't be additional sources of divine revelation, as later passages in Deuteronomy itself mention the possibility of heeding future prophets. The warning in Revelation specifically pertains to the book itself, not the entire Bible. It cautions against altering the content of Revelation and doesn't preclude the existence of other authoritative sources alongside Scripture. This distinction is evident from the context and language used in Revelation, referring to "this book" and using the Greek word "biblion" to denote a scroll, which Revelation fits into, unlike the entirety of the Bible. In essence, while these passages underscore the sanctity of Scripture, they don't rule out the presence of other authoritative sources of revelation.
@@Rafael-e5w3w The Catholic Church believes the Holy Spirit guided it to decide which books belong in the Bible back in 382 AD, under Pope Damasus I. They confirmed this decision at meetings in 393, 397, and 419 AD. So, the books you find in the New Testament are the ones the Church said were right, and you stick to them. When you became a Christian, you likely got a Bible with those same books inside. You trust them because they were passed down to you. This means your idea of what belongs in the New Testament mostly comes from tradition, not just from the Bible itself. Now, here's the big question: Where did the Bible come from in the first place? Until you can explain that, it's hard to be totally sure about the Bible's authority or how to understand it correctly. Once you figure that out-and there's really only one answer-you've got more things to think about. Like, if the Bible is our main guide, who gets to decide what it really means? And why do so many people who believe in the Bible disagree on what it says about important stuff like salvation?

Can you tell me why the German Lutheran Bible that belonged to my Grandma from 1895 contains all 73 books. Is that not a Protestant bible?
Can you tell me why the Ethiopian Bible has more books than the catholic one?? The Ethiopian Bible it’s Christian and aren’t catholic Christian as well so technically it should be welcomed by the Catholic Church since it’s Christian?
@@Rafael-e5w3wwhy did you answer my question with another question without answering my question? I will happily post a video with the Lutheran Bible that I own from 1895 with 73 books. My second question is where have you seen the Ethiopian Bible used outside of Ethiopia?
Luke 1:52 - He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; Sirach 10:14 - The Lord overthrows the thrones of rulers, and enthrones the lowly in their place.
Matthew 27:43 - if He is God’s Son, let God deliver him from His adversaries. Wisdom 2:18 - if the righteous man is God’s child, he will help him, and will deliver him from the hand of his adversaries.
Matthew 16:18 - “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.” Wisdom 16:13 - For you have power over life and death; you lead mortals down to the gates of Hades and back again
Matthew 7:16,20 - “you will know them by their fruits” Sirach 27:6 - Its fruit discloses the cultivation of a tree.
“Not every one that said to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of My Father which is in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name? and in Your name have cast out devils? and in Your name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess to them, I never knew you: depart from Me, you that work iniquity” (Mat 7:21-23).
Sirach 29:10-11 - Lose your silver for the sake of a brother or a friend, and do not let it rust under a stone and be lost. Lay up your treasure according to the commandments of the Most High, and it will profit you more than gold. References in the New Testament- Matthew 6:19-20, James 5:3
Can you tell me why the KJV 1611 has all 73 books?
There are 73 because the Catholic Church. Can you tell me why the Ethiopian Bible ( which is probably the oldest Christian Bible and most complete) has about 81 to 84 books?
The protest-ants kept all 73 books for the first 250 years in the KJV, because they were afraid to "take away" books from the bible. After 250 years of believing their own lies about the deuterocanon, they removed the 7 books. No council, no synod, no authority.
@ that makes more sense than any explanation I have ever heard.
Good message, Marty! Something to be reminded of, constantly. Loved the other metaphors too 😀
Let's go! Excited for you guys and looking forward to future episodes.
Blessed this morning being led in worship of our LORD by the young Christ followers! Thank you for serving the Lord and His Body.

Yeah it’s cold
Read Romans 7 1-3. Luke 16 18. And read Matthew 19 9 in the king James. The word is fornication. Not ADULTERY. It refers to the Jewish betrothal period. Not marriage. Very easy to understand. Think of Joseph's reaction to discovering Mary was pregnant. Only death ends a marriage.
