1st start - new starter ...

Motor has a little sputter while at idle - you can hear it and see the puffs of smoke ... There's no computerized fuel injection, or O2 sensor to compensate for variables - so I'm thinking somewhere I have a small hole or crack in a fuel line and it's sucking air like trying to drink through a cracked straw ...

This is where the beach *was* last year for our Friday Meet-&-Greet ... water level is 13 feet high, and the surface chop from wind is chewing the shoreline badly.

I have a '79 GT-150 with a 2000 115 Johnson. With a standard 21" pitch stainless (SST) prop, I have gotten as much as 54 mph measured by GPS. But getting that last few MPH can be very dicey, for the chine walking begins just past 50 MPH. Getting that last few MPH requires careful use of the trim. I have gotten better top end with standard/ non-bow lifting props. The GT-150 doesn't like bow lifting props, it makes the chine walking worse.
you probably need to replace the water pump on that ht9ing, its got a pretty weak stream
cturboaddict has a motor just like this that hes rebuilding
Truthfully, I haven't been able to push this boat/motor combination to a point where I really notice the foil, except in turning. I've had a Glastron before and have always been pleased with how quickly they plane ... They do so well on their own, assistance from the foil is minimal. I do feel a little more stable with it, though, and I don't have any plans to remove it.
We're restoring a gt150 also with Tower of Power and curious about the foil as i've had bad experience with larger boats losing 5mph on top end but had great hole shot, which shouldnt be an issue on this boat, so is it for top end stability? I've heard they can get snaky (chine walking) in mid 50's mph . The "Tower" looks good!
What prop are you running? I have a 78 150 (vids on channel) with a 90 Merc (tan band 1986) and I can get into the low-mid 50's with me (280lbs) and two 6 gallon steel boat tanks. I have a sting Ray 'foil and a 19 pitch Ballistic stainless prop. The foil made a night and day difference in mine, definitely worth the money! I hear Smart Tabs are pretty decent in these little boats as well.
@1972GT160 Yes ... I'm aware of where it's coming from. I was quite surprised at the volume. My previous outboards would drain rather quickly.
