you are a legend bro .... thank you so much for every min i spend in your channel <3
u explained this so well, thankss
bro.. Why not a simple tool like curl? it made it so much more simpler...
Can’t seem to paste the private key on my terminal
2:49 - 2:57 Was facepalm moment for me. Can't believe I wasted one hour on trying to clone repo to directory which I didn't had write access.
bro why you don't upload now... you are a great teacher and explanation is awesome 🎉....
The pacing of your videos is excellent, I really appreciate how you take the time to explain what you're doing
@@cmdcs1 thanks so much for the kind comment :) best of luck with the studies! 🙌
@@deanrumsby You're most welcome! I'm hoping we haven't seen the last of you, but in any case thank you for everything you've done so far 😊
Thank you so much for this video have been stock there your video was so easy to follow and I love the echo command easy way to save a text thank you so much so simple ❤❤❤❤
@@JehreyJ Thanks so much for the kind comment ☺️ I’m really glad the video helped! 🙂❤️
yes, i do find it quite exciting..
the password that I get for bandit26 under Bandit_pass, doesn't work when I try login to bandit26
i was so stumped i felt so dumb lol thank you for this
if watching in 2024 copy the script to /var/spool/bandit24/foo
thank you :D
you are the best; thanks
so thnkssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss man
great explanation 👍👍
I got stuck here because i tried to do this in one line instead of writing a script and it kept trapping me in the try again prompt. Call me the overthinking hooper.
The way you explain it is really nice. Thank you 😊
@@solobattalion596 thanks so much ☺️ wishing you the best with your studying 🙌
This series of OverTheWire videos is excellent. I'm really learning a lot from them. I tried following another channel on UA-cam that takes the viewer through all the Bandit levels and I found I was doing things but not really understanding how it works and why I was doing them. Not so with this series of videos. You explain things very well and as a result I seem to be able to commit the commands to memory more easily. I now feel more confident navigating the terminal. Keep them coming. ★★★★★
@@mediasubway Ah thanks so much, this comment has made my day ☺️ glad the videos have been helpful
hey im having problems figuring out how to log into bandit 1 it said something about being on a local host
not gonna lie, since I did bandit13 yesterday and bandit14 today I felt really lost because I forgot I could just read the password lmao
There is a faster way to use tr for this case. cat data.txt | tr 'a-zA-Z' 'n-za-mN-ZA-M'
Im having a problem with this lvl and have no idea how to fix it. When I write this "openssl s_client -connect localhost:31790" , I got a message saying "read R block" and then I send de correct password, and I get "KEYUPDATE" ... And I never get the key. What should I do? Thankss
same thing, found the answer?
@@HaykBelyan bro i found the answer by luckkkk. Give me some hours i go back home and i give you the solution here!
@@HaykBelyan my friend, what you should do to solve this lvl, is write this command: openssl s_client -connect lochalhost:31790 -ign_eof The trick is in this “ -ign_eof “ and then, do the same, just write the password when you see the “read r block”
@@HaykBelyan my friend what you have to do is write this command ‘-ign_eof’ So just add it like this: openssl s_client -connect localhost:31790 -ign_eof Then you will see again the “read R block” like before , but you will be able to send the password successfully and get the rsa key.
@@pabloandres5689 bro give us the answer pls 😭😭😭
Really succinct, calm, and clear walkthrough.
Dean youre amazing, thanks for what you do!
@@pabloandres5689 thanks so much for the kind words Pablo. I hope to put some more videos on sometime soon! Best of luck with your learning 👍
Thanks brother❤
No problem man, glad I could help! 👍
thank you.) you explain very well bro
Thanks so much :)
Appreciate these videos. Especially appreciate the improved audio quality. Any additional videos on overthewire wargames or cybersecurity would be great.
Thanks so much :) I need to get back to finishing the rest of the videos but I have been side-tracked for a little bit. Glad they are helping and good luck with your studies/ learning! 🙂
it was helpful
I kept looking around trying to figure out how it works and why, this video is PERFECT, explanation is easy to understand and follow. This deserves more attention!
THis does not work. Following your steps I get this: "!!! You are trying to log into this SSH server on port 22, which is not intended. bandit27-git@localhost: Permission denied (publickey). fatal: Could not read from remote repository. Please make sure you have the correct access rights and the repository exists."
when cloning the git make sure you clarify the localhost as localhost:2220. That should work.
@@asasasda-bb3po You legend. Cheers!
3 years later, this video is still serving it's purpose, not just for you :) Thank you for actually explaining WHY you are doing what you are doing, far more helpful than just showing this is the command used to get what you need without any explanation.
That being said...curious to know why you did chmod. I watched another tutorial that seemed to have accomplished logging into bandit14 without needing to do the following: 1) copy the RSA key and redirecting to private key 2) disconnect from bandit13@bandit 3) changing the permissions on the "private.key" Essentially the syntax was rearranged whilst still connected as bandit13 so the command looked like ssh -i sshkey.private bandit14@localhost -p 2220 I bypass the authenticity check by typing "yes" to continue connecting to bandit14 and successfully am connected, upon which time I employ the same cat command as you did.
Hey thank you so much for the kind comment, really appreciate it :) Ah yes you make a good point, at the time of making the video I was suddenly struck with the idea of running the ssh command from the target machine itself, in the way that you mentioned, but carried on with my initial method instead (at the time I was making each video quickly without editing each take, and I'd never hopped ssh connections like that before) so yes that is definitely the cleaner option you've found! :)
hey, iv been following along with your bandit videos but iv never used linux before(im on a windows computer) and was wondering what type of linux would be best to install? your videos are amazing btw🙏
Hey thanks so much for the kind words! :) You can also use Windows whilst working on the bandit problems, I think you would need to use PowerShell and install ssh there (should be plenty of videos available for that). If you're just interested in using linux to get more familiar with how it works, then I used to use Linux Mint and found that really worked well (especially as I had to work on quite an old laptop when I made those videos).
okay thank you so much, your videos fr are the best ones iv found for overthewire
@@Wh0snyx Glad they have helped :) Now I just need to get the rest recorded hehe.
You deserve more man.
Thanks so much :) glad if it helped!
I found this video mostly helpful, however for whatever reason I could not copy everything and insert it using the echo command. wound up using vim instead to finally get through!
Awesome, glad you got it solved! :)
Thank you for your videos.
Really glad you found them useful!
In the bash script you can write the for loop like this: for i in {0000..9999}
Oh awesome thanks for the tip, I'm going to give that a try in a bit!
<3
Perfect, thank you very much.
Glad you found it useful! Hope the progress has been going well :)
I haven't learned about python yet. That's why I couldn't notice the line in PHP. Thanks for showing us.
when i do /robots.txt it tell me Not found

love watching the view count drop by the end of this
The original data contains numbers and spaces as well , then how come we got the right password without any spaces etc by just using alphabets ?
Good point :) It’s because any character that doesn’t have a map specified will just get mapped to itself.
@@deanrumsby thanks
How did you know that you have to use port 9999 for listening? I don't get that part, I tried scanning for open ports, but that just mislead me. Anyway appreciate the help greatly!
#UnintentionalASMR (!!!)
Haha late reply but thank you for the kind comment!
Thank you for explaining the . and .. in the provided script. I didn't know the directory hierarchy is indicated by those even outside cd command.
