A tribute to Daniel Dennett in building the "Welcome to Earthroot" project

Daniel Dennett has been my favorite living philosopher since taking my first Philosophy of Mind class as an undergraduate. Here, I explain a little how some of his simple ideas on living have been the inspiration behind my Welcome to Earthroot project.
Muay Thai Chaiya Practice with Chris David
Переглядів 2616 років тому
This course is designed as a preliminary course for any martial arts. This is not traditional Muay Thai Chaiya but it infuses many of the concepts and applies them to a short course offered at a university in Thailand. We only have 15 lessons so it would be impractical to only work on footwork even though anyone learning Muay Thai Chaiya would spend a year or more on this aspect. Instead, I hav...
Meditation: Practice doesn't make perfection - you need perfect practice.
Переглядів 167 років тому
There are many additives to increase the ease and ability to meditate, but when we flip our thinking and look at what we can eliminate to enhance our meditative experience, we are doing a better service to our mental development. Ultimately, our goal should be to achieve this state under any circumstances. The tip in this video is meant for improving our practice.

Abandoning Pharmacology - by Christophilosopher
Переглядів 888 років тому
The aim herein is to show the need for abandoning pharmacology as a practice for mental health. Although the argument for this claim will be supported by the most recent scientific research, the structure of delivery will remain of simple logic. Using one of the simplest valid propositional forms, modus tollens, the argument will flow as follows: if a method is successful, it must meet certain ...
An Integral Therapeutic Approach - by Christophilosopher

"Not enough time to meditate" - by Christophilosopher
Переглядів 1,1 тис.8 років тому
I respond to a line I have heard on more than one occasion. When someone says they do not have time to do anything, I usually ask for clarification. When someone says they do not have time to meditate, I know they have more time than anyone to meditate. What better use of time to someone with "no time" is meditating?
Problems with Dualism - by Christophilosopher

Ultimately, if we want an absolute truth, we must buy into a paradigm to observe the universe. Is idealism the most rational? Can we even make sense of a dualistic universe? Are we living in a simulation?

    What do you think about an EdD in counseling psychology for someone who wants to become a practicing psychologist? I’m considering this route as right now it is the most financially feasible to me

    Good stuff brother. Even dreams contain _"physical reality". If a dream never ended I imagine scientists would emerge and start writing books on just how "real" the dream is😂

      Yeah, I did get sidetracked. I am mostly keeping this as a means to reflect back on my doctoral journey. In this video, I am, maybe poorly, explaining why I chose to go with a PsyD rather than a PhD or EdD. An EdD would have been the easiest because my Masters was in Education, but I didn't quite have the passion to continue. My reasons for choosing the PsyD was to pursue therapy/counseling in the future. However, I also love teaching, so it was hard to not go the PhD route. However, ultimately, I decided to just do research on my own time and learn more concepts rather than focusing on a single research question. So, in short, a PhD is about 25% coursework and 75% dissertation while a PsyD is 75% coursework and 25% dissertation. Are you also at this stage?

    Which did you ultimately choose? Im at the same point right now.

      I chose the PsyD. I am still working on it. I love it. For me, I made the right decision. I am publishing as much of my work as I can because it is important to realize it if I decide to use it to teach later, a Ph.D. is more competitive in academia, but if I have a solid record of publishing, it should balance it out. First and foremost, I want to become a practicing psychologist, so the Psy.D. is best.

    I don't have funds to pursue a psy.d. Was my goal though. Oh well maybe in another lifetime. For now I'm content with my LCSW.

    • @suntree2054
      @suntree2054 7 років тому

      I don't even have an LCSW. That's a great feat of itself!!! As for the Psy.D., there are a lot of online programs available. The one I am doing allows you to take up to ten years if needed. Also, you can pay as you go. You would still have to budget accordingly to make payments, but it allows you to work while you pursue the degree. That is the only way I would be able to do it, but I can do it on a Thai salary, which is considerably less than what I would make if I were still in the US.

    hey just got a question do you think if I am able to obtain my psyD by 38 it will be harder to get into the job market?

    • @suntree2054
      @suntree2054 7 років тому

      That is a difficult question. There are a couple routes you could go. I do my online, so I will be able to work my way into the job market while I am pursuing my degree. I have no official counseling experience yet. I have an M.Ed. and a leveled masters in psychology, but I have never practiced or had supervised hours, which will eventually be necessary for me to move on. I live in Asia, where psychological help is still quite stigmatized and not mainstream. I believe it is picking up here. For me, I believe there will be plenty of opportunities out here. Still, I think you would only benefit from having a Psy.D. if time and money permits you to get it.

    Good for you. The only issue is that if you are a PsyD student, you will not implement new knowledge versus a PhD will implement a intervention and study that intervention for effectiveness. A PsyD capstone will take about 1 year to complete or less versus a dissertation will take you two years or more depending if you get passed the IRB and the approval of the school topic. Good luck to you :). Take care

    • @suntree2054
      @suntree2054 7 років тому

      Absolutely. That is true. In all actuality, I want both. I want to be able to offer back to the same community that has provided me the knowledge to succeed. I can still do this, but I just have to be self-motivated to do research and get published. While a Ph.D. would better walk me through that process, I will be left more to fend for myself. At the same time, I would like to offer counseling or therapy. Again, someone with a Ph.D. could easily take the necessary steps on one's own to do this, but the Psy.D. is better suited for preparing me to practice treating others. The Ed.D. is kind of the same way, more practical opposed to research-based. I think the difference is if one wants to help individuals on a personal level or reach more people indirectly through literature. To tell you the truth, I still have a desire to get all three. It took a lot of research to really make this decision. It wasn't easy, but it certainly feels right. Thank you for your support :)

    Well elucidate sir! 'Time', or what humans perceive it to be anyway, rushes past while all that incessant chatter is going on in the mind. Stepping out of that for even a few short moments changes the nature of the flow once we re-enter it! :)

    This isn't true. People that you think are schizophrenic are awakened. Intune with life ,with incredible imaginations. They simply suffer because all of that expression is kept in. Take them and share their expression with them, show them love in life again..guess what "schizophrenia ceases to be ". It was never there only the label psychiatry chose because it didn't understand what the person really needed.

    • @suntree2054
      @suntree2054 8 років тому

      I appreciate your comment, but I am slightly confused to what "this" refers when you say "this isn't true." I simply state what a diagnosis of schizophrenia is according to the establishment with none of my own opinions. My underlying point was to throw the very definition back at them and the meat-eating world around us. This video has little to do with judging someone with schizophrenia in any way. The message is clearly of animal liberation activism. If you choose to attack this position, please feel free. I have been met with a bitter resentment for over a quarter of a century.

    An intelligent, sensitive and insightful presentation which, as an adjunct to the core theme, provokes speculation as to what 'normal, acceptable' behaviour is by tying in the abhorrent, daily practice of subjecting our fellow earthlings to a holocaust which is either ignored, justified or lied about. Could that one human behavioural trait not be diagnosed as schizophrenic? How does empathy become short-circuited when it comes to dealing with other sentient beings? Thanks Mr. Christophilosopher for another video which actually merits space on youtube and minutes of your time.

      Much love Momo. I appreciate your insight, and the awakening cannot happen alone in the dark - if it did, it would still be night. It takes kindred spirits to bring the healing light to all whom are blinded by authority, majority, and their own posteriority. As long as it happens, the seemingly small steps in the present day will be monumental bounds when peering back upon them.
