Reinstalling Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 On My Intel Compaq
This long-form video shows me reinstalling Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 on my Intel Compaq, which is a Compaq Presario 7000 computer with an Intel Pentium III processor. This came about when I did something selfish to this computer that made me want to reconfigure everything on this machine completely to a fresh, clean slate as it were.
This is the final part of me reinstalling various versions of Windows on my Intel Compaq, as I’ve pretty much set up everything back to what I had it before.
Enjoy!

It has happened again. On September 13, 2024, my area completely lost power at an unexpected time during the afternoon. Just like that last power outage, I pulled out my old 2004 Sony DVD Handycam to document the moment after the power went out in my house, and when the power is back up. I used the camcorder's Nightshot Plus (infrared night-vision) feature to record the footage as seen in the v...

I was using Windows FLP a.k.a Fundamental For Legacy PC at that time. Trust me, Microsoft at that time was care for less bloatware rather than Windows 10 and 11
Interesting video for sure! I see you're using a phone, I'd recommend installing some kind of pro camera app to record with custom shutter speed: if it's an Android phone I'd recommend installing OpenCamera, if it's an iPhone then install any app you can find as long it let's you record for free lol
Back in the DOS era, fdisk was used to create the 'partitions' in which the 'primary partition' would usually be the boot (active) partition as the 'C' drive and the rest of the space could be allocated to an 'extended partition'. And then that 'extended partition' would be further 'partitioned' into logical volumes (drive labels d,e,f etc.)
That show came from Australia and made by Ludo Studios, BBC Worldwide, Australian Broadcasting Corporation
Wow
Win 2000 was my favorite one because of its security
It was definitely a reliable and secure version of Windows at the time

How it feels waking up after 10 minutes of sleep
That’s basically what this is, albeit longer than 10 minutes. Give or take like a few days or a week almost. That’s what this computer is in. Fortunately it’s only short term, so a simple restart "fixed" it for some reason.
Reball GPU/memory for sure required at least.
Well, read the description. Restarting it "fixed" it for some reason. It just so happens it does that when it has not been given power for so long, especially since the battery in this is long dead now. But still. I’m no expert so I may have to either just trash it or just take it to a repairman to do it for me. But again, this is a laptop that I have used as a kid back then, and it’s kind of hard for me to get rid of it because yeah.
Wait, old computers had multiple operating systems?
Yeah, back when you had to do so, for various reasons. For example, if a program that worked on a prior OS but doesn’t work properly on a newer OS. That’s where it’s possible. Again, various reasons for multi-booting.
😭
Sometimes I miss XP
My computer isn't affected since i don't have cloudstrike installed. I'm kinda lucky.
To be real though, only enterprises and those in business are affected. Us home users and consumers will never be affected by this because CloudStrike is enterprise-level security.
What would be the use of DosBox in Windows 98? Cool collection from Compaq. 👑
This is how my collection used to look like with how many I was able to obtain during XP’s demise that would’ve otherwise been thrown out before our home was foreclosed and I had to forfeit nearly the entire collection of desktop towers. Due to space constraints, I’d rather collect laptops that have the driver support necessary to downgrade back to an older Windows so that they can actually game - at least, that’s how I specifically tailor my hardware given its spec since I don’t care to replace the hard drives on machines this old as to be quadruple booting alongside multiple different SKUs of the same OS. It’s cheaper for me that way, since a lot of them were considered low-end even for the Windows they originally shipped with
I can see where you’re coming from. I do have some old laptops in the collection, which are late 2000's ones that can at least run XP at best with the correct drivers.
This was my computer. Loved it so much!
Nice collection! Impressive that you've been able to get so many different installs on the same drive! The Dell 980 looks interesting, have you got a video on that?
Thanks! It was an interesting feat for me to fit at least more than one OS on a single hard drive, at least back then. And for your question, no, but you may have briefly seen it in my 100th video special; I might do a proper overview video on them at a later time, but not now. You might also see the three computers in future videos as well, so be on the lookout for those if they ever arrive, due to the way that I usually upload videos from time to time.
Here before this blows up 🔥🔥
What the ?, Use Windows 98 dual version co-exist Microsoft Office 97 & Microsoft Office 2000 & Windows 2000 multi version co-exist Microsoft Office 97, Microsoft Office 2000, Microsoft Office XP & Microsoft Office 2003 You should just only use one version Microsoft Office XP in Windows 2000, not multi version Microsoft Office 97, 2000, XP & 2003 in Windows 2000
To answer your question, this is just me. I just like to have multiple versions of Windows and multiple versions of Office together, even if it's just a very stupid idea for me to do so. The main reason for all of this is just because *I can*. I just like doing things that I like, as that's what my content here on the channel shows. If you don’t like it, then that’s fine.
Oh ok!
Yeah, it definitely is a bit much considering that Office 97 & 2000 are already covered by the 98SE installation. Office 2003 follows the XP design language more so that’s where I’d rather use it, just because _you can_ doesn’t always mean you _should_ when it’s wasting up hard drive space
Looks like you have several Windows 2000 and Windows XP editions to select every time you start your vintage Compaq PC up. What is the sixth Windows edition choice on the operating system selection screen at the beginning though? Its name looks generic.
For the lastmost option in the boot menu, that was the slot for Windows 98 Second Edition, however I can't boot into it at the time of writing as it goes into a screen that says "Invalid System Disk". In particular, that option went into the original Compaq OEM install of Windows 98 Second Edition that I had installed on using the QuickRestore media, and I had several things installed on it over time. I'm already starting to plan on reformatting and restructuring the OSes on this computer anyway, so that might not be much of an issue for me, at least.
That Compaq Presario mousepad is one of the best classic mousepads I've ever seen! Fantastic find!
You know, I like this UA-cam video's original format just the way it is because it's a lot easier to use a standard UA-cam video player's controls than the fact UA-cam shorts play in endless loops unless they're paused as well as the fact they are surrounded by other shorts that even have nothing to do with one another. Just saying. But I guess you could do whatever works best. Anyhow, this Compaq PC video is interesting. The Windows 2000 PC demonstrated in this video looks a bit sleek for its time. And the cartoon background looks comical!
Agreed. Also that background is indeed based on a comic/cartoon (or manga/anime) series that is exclusive to Japan, which on several comments of my videos overall will give you the answer.
Nice collection you got there! Especially with the latest Dell Optiplex acquisitions
nice collection of machines! i had wondered why that pavilion dv9000 was running xp (since i am an avid vista sp2 enjoyer), but its good to know you still have the original restore disc lol. and in regards to that optiplex 980, dell kept the option of windows xp for their machines well up until the windows 8 era, so thats probably why youre seeing the xp sp3 install disc in the original configuration menu. and on a side note, got escargot/nina or crosstalk? they're both restoration projects for msn/windows live messenger and yahoo messenger and theyre both really neato
For your former question(s), I know on my end that the dv9000 series came with XP first, as they came out in 2006, a year before Vista came out in 2007. And yes, I do have a restore disc for my dv2620us laptop that my parents created back in October 2007 (I mentioned this in the vid). Also interesting to know how Dell had options for XP during the Windows 7-8 era, as I've used the 980's service tag to kind of confirm it myself. For your latter question, I've never even heard about those restoration projects myself! I've never had them, though, but I would like to try it myself one day when I have the time!
I used a win xp pc for 3-5 years
I've used XP for at least about 4 years, from 2004-2008.
Use windows xp pro

Same error for Miiverse but the error code was different
Yeah, I believe that prior to the 3DS online servers being shut down, launching Miiverse when it closed in November 2017 would show up that aforementioned discontinuation message like the ones now seen when connecting online in several games, but now that the 3DS online servers have indeed shut down back in April of this year, a different message shows up about the service being no longer available. I've even mentioned something like this in the video.
I remember have the same one but it was a v5000
Ah yes the V5000 series of Compaq Presario laptops... Never had one but might look into it one day. Of course, the model numbers seem to kind of cause some confusion, as the desktop 5000 series and the laptop V5000 series are all named similarly via the same number, but are substantially different from each other.
What is the operating system on that computer? (If there is one)
To answer your question, this computer has six (O_O) operating systems installed, it being 98SE, 2000 Pro, 2000 Server, XP Pro, XP Home, and of course, WEPOSReady2009.
@@johnnycha Wow. that is kinda useful lol
How have sound driver
@@nijebitno8710 The drivers for the sound card I have here are built in (or included out of the box) with Windows XP, especially since XP included built-in drivers for most hardware that were available at the time of XP's release. Newer hardware after XP's release don’t have built-in drivers for XP as they are not included on the disc media. This also includes third-party sound cards and many newer sound cards (including those integrated ones) both before and after XP's release.

That's great. Not to mention, I'm also a Compaq owner as well. I have two, to be exact. Being: A Presario SR1000Z (AMD Sempron, running Windows XP Home SP2, acquired Christmas 2022), And a Presario V5305WM Laptop (AMD Mobile Sempron, running Windows XP MCE 2005, acquired Christmas 2023). Will also be getting a Presario SR1123WM (Intel Celeron, Windows XP Home SP1) Christmas this year. I made videos showcasing them both. Booting up, shutting down, and all.
Wow, you've acquired an old Compaq computer almost 10 months after I've gotten my first retro Compaq computer earlier that year! And BTW I also have two Compaq computers but they're both towers. Never had a Compaq laptop though, but that may come on my radar very soon. Also, I've got the first one at the beginning of 2022 (in February to be exact) and I've acquired the second one in June of that year. Both are the same model computers (with some differences to each other).
I bet you are staying safe from Covid when your UA-cam channel was created.
At the time I created this channel, the COVID-19 pandemic was still an ongoing occurrence when it happened back in early 2020 (the first reportings were back in late 2019), and I was staying safe and sound during the pandemic just to let you know. And side note, I remember the day when I found out that we were going to be in a stay-at-home order back in March 13, 2020; this was back when I was a senior at high school at the time. And BTW, I have never uploaded any videos on my channel from the years 2020 to 2023 because I wasn’t that confident enough to upload anything that I was interested in at the time, but upon getting my early 2000s Compaq systems in 2022 that kind of got me a spark in doing content that would suit for this channel, which would become a reality in May of 2023, which was last year. Thanks for asking anyway.
Who are the two little characters on your desktop background? They look really adorable. :3
The image that I've used as the background wallpaper of my Windows 98 install on this Intel Compaq was based on Cyborg Kuro-Chan, an obscure Japanese manga/anime series from the late 90s. This image in particular shows Kuro (the titular character) and Nana (the robotic lamp rabbit), with Kuro wearing a scarf. The original image was made by another person on Colors Live, which you can find here: www.colorslive.com/details/3341264 For my variation(s), I changed the color hues to match Windows 98 (and Windows 2000)'s background color and set it as my background wallpaper. And for a bit of technicality, I've decreased the color depth to 16 colors for some variations (mostly for the one I've made for Windows 2000). And I've gotta say, it looks pretty neat to me. Thanks for asking! This is starting to become a common thing for my curious viewers to notice.
was there a inverted color one cuz mine just did that
Yes there is, it can be accessed by this combination at startup: RIGHT+B (basically like the grayscale combination code except with "RIGHT" instead of "LEFT" for the D-pad)
love how that lightswitch sounds so heavy and metallic
Thanks, this light switch probably came with the house when it was built
kino, very comfy
Fortunately none of my devices had the issues of the outage.
At least for the majority of consumers, since enterprises and some businesses are the ones that had those problems as they have the software.
I wanted one of these so bad when I was younger. My parents held on to our Macintosh Performa 6200CD for WAYYY too long. All the way up until 2002…
Wow. That Mac when it was new in 1995 and being used up until 2002, interesting. You know, my family was no stranger to Macs, since we had that Mac Classic for a long while and even one of those "pizza-box" style Macs from the 90's. This was before we were lucky to get our Compaq computer around 2001 or so (and I wasn't even around yet back then).
Remember to install all updates Windows 2000 includes IE6 sp2, wmp9, directx 9.0c, Windows 2000 Extended Kernel by blackwingcat, Visual C++ Runtime, .Net Framework runtime, Microsoft Office XP (2001) & Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 on this pc intel
When Will You Install Windows Vista Ultimate On Your Intel Compaq?
Hello there. I may have already asked this question before, but at the moment I currently have no plans to install Vista on this machine. That may be partially because I wanted to get a graphics card that makes use of the Aero capabilities of Vista, which I don’t have a working, non-problematic example of that on hand. If anything, a GeForce FX 5200 or a 6200 would work for that, usually with 128 MB of memory. I’ve had used 256 MB and 512 MB 6200 cards before with Vista and other Windows OSes to varying degrees of success, oftentimes having problems down the road. In short, I currently have no plans to install Vista on my Intel Compaq anytime soon.
how you find this pc bro😢
Long story short, I’ve found this laptop on an eBay listing a while back, and I kind of wanted to have a laptop that was like my old 2007 HP laptop that my family had but with a bigger screen and extended keyboard, and so I went ahead and bought it (along with the parts that I need to get this laptop in working order).
I'm guessing the failure is Windows can't write to the disk and perform actions like setting virtual ram and maybe registry editing on the fly? a cd-rw won't work this way either!
Probably, that might be the cause. But hey, it's not like I wanted a Hiren's BootCD-like thing but with Windows 98 on it anyway, cause I've just wanted to check this out myself for fun after I've backed up my files off of the Intel Compaq and put it on a CD-R for archiving.
The youtube algorithm thought this video was 16 years ago, thats why it recomended to me
FYI I deliberately made this video as is to evoke the sense of nostalgia and feelings of a time when UA-cam was in its early days back in the mid-to-late 2000s. It’s the same reason why I recorded the video using an early-2000s DVD camcorder, because camcorders like the one I had were used in most early UA-cam videos, especially DV camcorders as that was the norm back then.
nice wallpaper at beginning of the video where can I get it
@@editname0063 The Cyborg Kuro-Chan background that I’ve used in my Windows 2000 Professional install came from this site here: www.colorslive.com/details/3341264 I’ll provide you with a direct link to the image here if you’re interested: s3.amazonaws.com/colorslive/png/3341264-HLEqqBfICpnPhks4.png For my variant, I just changed the colors a bit to match the default background color of Windows 2000. The rest of the original image was made by someone else, and not me.
thanks also the videos on your channel look great I'm gonna watch them soon
Windows 98 that real install
This is a genuine install of Windows 98 on a CD-R, that I’ve created for archival and reference purposes. After I’ve created the disc though, I’ve had a thought about trying to boot up the install from disc using my Windows 98 OEM disc, which is what this video is about.
Can You Install Windows Vista Ultimate On It Now?
Funny that you should say that, because I did install Windows Vista on it years ago after I got my Intel Compaq back in mid 2022 as part of an experiment. For a TL;DR, let’s just say that it worked okay for a while. I had a capable graphics card to take advantage of Aero and desktop compositing that worked for a while, but with some issues. Over time, I’ve lost interest with the experiment as I’ve done several different things to it as far as OSes go, and eventually took the Vista partition out. I would like to have Vista back on it someday, but not right now. Windows 7 is also another candidate for a future experiment, but that’s for another day.
2:52 I know of that trick!!!!!!
I’m glad you’ve already knew!
