Try this Haka brother "Te Matarae I Orehu - Waiata Tira 2020"
There is something special and deep about the connection of us Indigenous and Māori we share sister countries. When we see each other out in public we subconsciously recognise each other and nod.
Every Haka IS a story. You don't have a haka without a story to enact.
I’ll do a haka for you brother if you ever came through
Why didn’t they show the pōwhiri!!! This is some of nzs greatest haka men
Hey!! Kapa Haka student here!! Women wear Moko Kauae (lips and chin) and Men wear Moko Kanohi (full face). I know women would get Moko tattooed after her first period, but back then women lived on the marae (so now the rules are different), not sure what happened for men though. The Moko for both men and women that is worn at performances is face painted on, and a stencil is used for the perfect shaping. This is because of legal reasons for under 18s, and generally speaking, mostly older members of society can get Moko because you have to earn it
We don't know 😔. I always act nice still people act toxic towards me.
Polynesian & Viking tradition is warrior culture. The Haka harnesses the frequency & vibration of strength, courage, unity & honor before battle. This Mana (energy) gives us the power to face the uncertainties of life and the fulfillment of Journey into the unknown. I love that you made that connection with video games modeling after this spiritual force because that is exactly where Hollywood & entertainment adopt their concepts from. Indigenous cultures have not been given credit for the symbolic representation of magic in movies and media but I do believe that is why we get emotional when witnessing it displayed in raw & rich ritual. One Love brother 🙏🏼🔥💯
The Maori Haka war-chant is very much a Kiwi thing, no matter what your DNA is. It has been performed by Kiwis before international (and domestic) rugby matches since 1888, when a mixed team of Maori and Pakeha (the latter being white New Zealanders) first toured Ireland, Britain and Australia. There are indeed many variants of the Haka but unless it is part of a process it is generally utilised as a sincere honour.
Yes the Stolen Generations was a dark time in Australias history as it was the Australian governments law to take half caste Aboriginal children away from their families to be raised by white people with the hope they'd marry white men therefore the complete breeding out of the Aboriginality in their blood... however this caused much emotional pain and distress for the children and their families... this law only just ceased in the early 1900s...it began in 1901 as The White Australia Policy...♥️🖤💛🦘🦘 Much love from Perth Western Australia and as a Aboriginal woman my people are the Noongah people of the South West region of Western Australia including Perth i just wanted to say much love and respect for showing respect to the 2 GREAT CULTURES ERE as Aboriginal people and Maori people see each other as our brothers and sisters ❤❤
I saw your beard grow a little watching the Haka
That's so spiritual and uplifting to be given such respect .props to Those men
The word your looking for my bro, is purity
Aussies and New Zealanders are brothers & sisters, this is mad respect from students to a teacher that taught & showed them mad respect, so many school kids could learn from this
U may not be Maori But U feel the vibration Maori Viking same mana Maybe u have a different word for such significance I appreciate your humility Kia kaha Brotha✌️
It's not controversial. It's ludicrous.
haha
@@element_five I mean, Luke Skywalker himself thinks the last movies (under Kathleen Kennedy) were bad. Just watch any Mark Hamill interview about them. But you can have another opinion of course. It's just the wrong one :P
@@glp.1337 lol. you sound like my wife now, you can have your opinion, but its wrong.... haha so Im used to it. Have an amazing day :p
@@element_five How ironic! You sound just like my wife, completely ignoring the subject and points that are presented and trying to make it all about you again. Have a great day yourself as well!
@@glp.1337 lol well it was about me and my opinions :p and why I made my post! I really dont care what others think on this matter, I know what I think and thats all that matters when it comes to my opinion on the movies :)
Almost every ethnic groups involved here. Not just Maori. Awesome display of diversity unified.
That’s the first time I’ve heard it expressed in that way but I think that is exactly correct,. Each haka represents a different energy and meaning
Loved your take on kapa haka I'm maori and appreciate what you felt from that performance and how you described it as stroy telling 👏 without breaking it down you where spot on in a way
They are the indigenous people and they are part of that culture.
And they were kids....imagine the adults....
Full performance at the Merrie monarch Hawai maori perform youll enjoy this it goes through the weaponry haka it was filmed. Awhile ago
❤❤❤
What an honor!!
Tumatauenga maori god of war
#RESPECT 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
❤❤😊
The hongi or touching of the noses is the sharing of the breath which unites us all ❤
The boomerang was for hunting and battle. They could cut the necks of the animal to drop them where they stood...never a toy ❤
two of my mokopuna (grandchildren 10yr and 6yr) do Kapa Haka at their schools and it warms my heart watching them.
The haka a Mäori customary practice that has been going on for more than 1000 years... It's original purpose was to spiritually cleanse the male before he kills or is killed... in those days our god (Tumatauenga) the god of war was channeled through the haka... Mörena...😛😛😛😛
Indianer, aborginer, samer har förtryck varför ????
there are many Maaori competitions in NZ, all the tribes around nz create kapahaka (performing groups) to compete in these competitions bc performing is one of our most ancient traditions, we would perform to people on special occasions. when visitors are getting them a plate of food or entering the wharekai (kitchen/eating house) a group of people who are from that marae will sing songs for them until they have gotten their plates. alot of schools create kapa aswell and maaori can join their schools kapa aswell as their tribes kapa to perform at these competitions, this is just one of the performances, Te Matatini is for teenagers and adults and is for the best kapa of these competitions around the country, its basically the finale of all comps. Mana Kuratahi is the kids version of Te Matatini and has kids performing and displaying their skills.
Honestly brother, Europeans experienced the same things. The "pagans" were also slaughtered by people like the Teutonic Order, had their cultured and faith destroyed by the sword and the flame. A lot of people think of Europeans as merely colonizers, and that is wrong. I'm half Maori and half Scottish, and I'm equally proud of my european heritage.
the ending is what we call in our culture a tohunga (witch doctor/priest) he is cursing the invading warriors to kill them for attacking his village & tribe.
korea!
Maori show respect to the only indiginous people on earth
What are you talking about... explain please?
You’re indigenous too
Im maori and in awe of the only indiginous people on this planet, untouched by the ones who created the mess you see today,

I love this song, reminds me of Silverchair (they were teenagers in their prime too), but this is a bit heavier
oh man, I had complelty forgotten about Silverchair, used to listen a lot to them as well when I was young.... flashbacks!
Pre European contact, and with the absence of range weapons (no bow and arrow, only slings), not even throwing spears, the Maori fought exclusively hand to hand combat using predominantly ornately carved slashing and bludgeoning weapons made of greenstone, hardwood, volcanic rock, or whalebone. No shields. No armour. Up close and personal warfare. Brutal as fk. Something about wanting to look into the eyes of the opponent who's life they're about to take. This was carried into WW2 against the Nazi's where they were referred to by the Krauts as the "Scalphunters" for their propensity to fix bayonets and trench raid. Often brandishing tratitional weapons as well. See Maori Battalion. The weapon fighting style is called mau rakau, which was a traditional maori martial art with some similarities to kempo but way more athletic. Much like the Spartans, boys were trained from childhood in the art of fighting and warfare. The Maori are on all top 10 greatest warrior cultures lists for a reason. The haka was no idle threat. The Maori fought a brutal 30 year war with the British in the mid 1800s.The colonialists had much admiration for the military nous of the Maori. The Maori adapted to firearms warfare like a duck to water. The introduction of gunpowder, sparked old intertribal conflicts, igniting into the Musket Wars between warring tribes that killed 40 thousand Maori. When the New Zealand Wars against the British Empire broke out, the Maori were already battle hardened and battle tested. Masters at ambush, guerilla, seige, psychological, and close quarters warfare , they proved formidable opponents. Always heavily outnumbered and outgunned, the Maori used knowledge of the terrain, ingenuity, and trench warfare to neutralise the firepower discrepancies. This was 50 years before the famous trenches of WWI. Sophisticated multi levelled zig zag trenches with hidden firing pits, tunnels, and bomb proof bunkers. They had flax covering their firing pits that the musket balls would just bounce off. With shotguns traded for from american sealers, and traditional bludgeoning and slashing weapons in their arsenal. Once the Maori could fool their enemy into close quarters combat... It was over.
