Wow I am newly decided on being a straight haired natural….. think I’m officially going for it. I’ve been natural for ten years, originally stopped the creamy crack in May of 2012 and bc’d summer of 2013. 2014 I experimented with texturizer once and then tried the Keratin treatment 6 months later in case I was missing something. I wasn’t though. I was over it, and I wanted to stop having to chemically treat my hair every two months and instead be fully natural. Otherwise, my straight hair was absolutely fine while relaxed, it just didn’t grow out too far past my shoulders and I didn’t like that. Being natural all this time I’ve lived on keeping my hair moisturized and mostly ended up using washing go’s, even being 4C. And my hair has grown out more. But I have never been good with being into the keeping up with twist outs or braid outs and I don’t do much to my hair. Then my wash and go’s started to fail me because of single strand knots over the years as my hair grew out. Also get knots with braid/twist outs. (I have very textured hair that has low shine.) I find that it doesn’t really get far past my under arms now days. I cut it once, maybe twice a year. I am aiming for bust length hair. And all these years I still measure length my straightening my hair once a year. So I’m like now there’s nothing else I can really do, I need to keep it stretched for it to thrive and avoid these knots but I don’t want it to thin out at all. Honestly I thought I’d work it out and stay kinky curly forever. I love my wash and go’s and my kinky curly hair, but now I know it’s not realistic for me. I also have four young children now, lol. It’s just sad that my curly hair is not working out. But truthfully I work better with straight hair because it’s how I learned to take care of my hair on my own, end of high school and into college. So basically I’m looking into this straight haired natural life on the other side. My goals are to straighten once a month and not to apply heat in between washes (which has always been my failsafe) in order to maintain thickness and growth. Thank you for this video and God willing I’ll succeed with the new lifestyle.

Great summary! I use to be a straight hair natural but decided to stop straighting my hair back in 2012. My hair was damaged and brittle especially the ends of the hair. Anyways! Everyone is different! We have to make choices which feels comfortable for you!. So what ever you decided be confident!..wish all the best on your straight hair natural journey 😊

Thank you for this I just got out at the end of this summer and everything you said is how I felt about leaving and being in after 13 years . I got sent to a medboard twice for my health condition. The first time they allowed me to stay and the second time I didn’t fight because I was tired and my health, family and dreams of another career mattered more. I just knew God had another path for me. I was just hired at a company after attending my first job fair on a whim. This was the first job I applied for and it matched everything I want to do and the recruiters urged me to apply after looking at my resume and experience. So to your point when it’s for you it will all align! Thank you! People really don’t understand unless they have served.

I've been a straight hair natural for many years and when I tried to wear my curls it wasn't happening, the only con I have is that I sweat a lot in my head and my hair gets puffy so it's hard to keep it straight.

You and your hair look beautiful. It reminds me of when I wore my home made upart sew in with old school Extensions Plus relax texture. So many people thought it was all me lol. I am going to go and experiment with keeping my hair straight because even under wigs, when I have done this for breif stints I noticed the condition of my hair was improved vastly. Sadly my meno hot sweats would not allow me to wear my hair like yours on the daily, but straighter hair holds moisture better. I know this from my own hair and my wigs, so it is proven with me.

I've been thinking of being a straight hair natural for a year now. Since Turing 30, I don't do natural styles, I only do wash and go’s in the spring /summer and braids in the fall/winter. I have recently tried lace wigs and love them. My hair is 16-20 inches when straight and 5 -8 inches wet😂. My husband live my natural fro/styles but I'm afraid that I'm simple over it lol.

I was a straight hair natural maybe 5 years ago.. Curly my hair was a mess but straightened my hair was goals. I had no choice because a stylist snuck relaxer in my hair when I went for a silk press and my curls NEVER bounced back. I enjoyed being a straight hair natural for about a year but I’m back curly again. Idk thick coily Afros I just love 🥰 I’ve done relaxers, I’ve done pixie cut, I’ve don’t straight hair natural and now I’m choosing to be fully natural. I have had so many styles and being a straight natural is one of the easiest ways for me to maintain my hair. My hair is heat trained so it doesn't even revert in the humid heat when I lived in atlanta. I don't care about my curl pattern because I wear my hair straight. I unwrap and go. I talk a lot about heat training on tiktok and I get a lot of flack about it but I will continue to stand by heat training because it is a great alternative to relaxers.

Great video! I agree ! My hair doesn’t love braids . I guess it’s the friction and probably the professionals getting the hot water on my hair . Perm rods, flexi rods, and a silk press helps me. I have to stay on top my my trims too. Oh and not too many wash and goes or puffs.
