Kayaking Adventure - Hanford Reach, Vernita Bridge to Richland on the Columbia River
Переглядів 2414 роки тому
I kayaked the Hanford Reach on the Columbia River in my Lifetime Lancer 100. I was told by an expert canoeist that it would take 4 hours but that was a miscommunication because they thought that I was going to stop at the white bluffs and not go all the way to Richland, my trip took 9 hours (47 mi) and I didn't bring proper provisions. I got to see wildlife and desert scenery but I got sunburne...

    When you were using the saw, the downward pressure applied by the left hand was causing the wood to bind on the blade, would have been way better if you had gripped the workpiece correctly.

    Mine just came in and I’m commenting all over UA-cam because of how awesome this knife is. I’ve bought a few knives in my life time and this is the nicest one. It was soooo sharp out of the box. Gonna have to buy a benchmade for my EDC now!

    Some of the BG line by Gerber was REALLY good for the price. It’s a shame that a few bad apples spoiled the bunch. I remember the controversy of QC problems plaguing a batch of models. That was the beginning of the end for the Gerber BG line.

    IT IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL DESIGN, COPY PASTE FROM THE SCANDINAVIAN COUNTRIES. RIGHT NOW, AT THE KNIVESANDTOOLS IN EUROPE COSTS, ONLY, 209,90€, FOR WHAT REASON? HOW MUCH DOES IT REALLY COSTS TO PRODUCE IT? 1095 IS NOT THE BEST CARBON STEEL. CONDOR BUSHLORE 57,50€, J&V CDA WOODLORE 58€, HULTAFORS OK4 29,50€. THEY ARE OUT OF MIND. BOKER PLUS VIGTIG 1095, 69,95€.

    Can’t compare a Mora Companion to a full tang RB3. Out of the box no 90 degree spine on companion, plastic handle and rat tail tang. It will fail and has failed. RB3 is a waaaay better knife and you get what you pay for. Now a Garberg is up to par with the RB3 for sure.

    Amazing knife, hindered only by the fact Benchmade can’t seem to make a sheath to save their lives. I’m using a kydex sheath for mine now, and it has made a world of difference. I would absolutely trust this knife in a “survival” situation. The idea that a knife HAS to be high carbon in order to be able to bang it with a rock to create a spark seems silly to me. We have Bic lighters and ferro rods now. Besides, stainless steel means you don’t have to spend all day oiling it if you’re in a humid environment. If not my favorite knife, it’s in my top three.

    The Benchmade Bushcrafter is totally a bushcrafting knife. The saber grind works really well for making feathersticks, splitting wood via batoning, the point drills divots just fine, chops okay for a small knife, preps food without any problems, works for processing game, and strikes a firesteel with authority. I haven't found a bushcraft task it can't do, so yea it's a true bushcraft knife.

    I just replaced my 25 year old EDC Gerber EZ-out with a R 2 D 2 two months ago. I polished the factory edge on a leather strop, but didn't over do it. I purposely left it slightly toothy so it could bite into material better. I've made the mistake before of over polishing the edge only to have adverse effects and surprisingly lose cutting performance. I really like it as a EDC, but I was very surprised when I dropped it on my kitchen floor and it took a bounce and completely opened up and locked open on its own. I'm pretty sure I can try doing that a hundred times and it wouldn't happen again. If anyone's else's R2-D2 completely opened up, from a drop to the floor, please tell me know.✌and thanks for the video!

    Your gonna get a-lot of hate but I agree with most of what you said. It’s a beast of a knife and I don’t regret buying it but mine sets in the box. I have too many better choices. If I had it to do over again I’d buy the BK7

    6:43 the “sharpener” for a 1095 scandi is a strop. The simple version is one side with Tormek paste, the other side is naked leather. The better version is a 1.5 wide x 5 long x 1/8 to 3/16 thick strip of carbon fiber, lexan, or similarly stiff, perfectly flat lightweight material. One side has 800 grit 3M machinists honing adhesive paper (its actually plastic paper) and the other side is naked leather, with maybe a tiny bit of compound if you want. The simple is better for harder use as the leather deforms a bit with pressure and will slightly convex the edge making it more durable for batoning and whatnot. The 3M version is better for keeping a perfectly flat scalpel sharp true scandi without a micro bevel. Either one carries in your pocket.

    You can find better parangs in functionality, but you won't find lighter parang. Gerber is most light parang. If you do not need to take down thick trees then better stay with Gerber, if you need to take down thick trees then better use Condor parang.

    I was excited to receive my new monocular until I tried to use the two focus rings. I'd have carpal tunnel syndrome in short order if I tried to use these with any sort of regularity. I note in the video that there is no attempt to adjust focus. Too bad. I'd like to know what you regard as reasonable. I just know that I couldn't do it with mine. Also, rubber on the eyepiece is supposed to fold over? Wish you would have shown that.

    • @Rootpuma2.0
      @Rootpuma2.0 3 роки тому

      once you set the focus to your eye you should never have to adjust it. No you press the rubber into/around your eye so it blocks out the light around your eye allowing you to focus on the image.

    I carry mine all the time, but I find that it dulls easily. Just pulling out of sheath half a dozen times I need to take a few strokes on the blade to get it sharp enough for fighting. What do you say? I wish they used carbon 1095.

    I've had one for a few years now. Everything you say is true. The only downside is it's weight. It's very heavy for a monocular. It gets a place in my day pack because it is a great monocular, but it's too heavy for long hikes with a backpack IMO. You have to ask yourself, how useful is it and is it worth carrying the weight? I mean if you have to range a target, you're not in any immediate danger, right? Better off staying out of trouble and going the other way. So not that useful. It's nice to have a little scope, but a cheap, ultralight will do.
