This home was designed and built in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia by one man. A boyhood dream made reality. Off grid - electrically, water and waste, gas, heating, cooling. Future plans include the majority of food to be grown on site also.

IKEA Wardrobe doors (PAX Sliding with AULI/MEHAMN panels) fitted to a custom made plywood wardrobe. IKEA often get a bad rap from builders but these wardrobe doors are impressive in design, manufacture and price.

A video walk through for friends who've supported and encouraged me via my blog during this build. One bloke's boyhood dream to design and build a house on his own, resulting in the blending of head, heart and hands. To encourage and continue to push boundaries, learn, create and grow throughout your life.
Looks mega. Definitely doable 👍🏻
Excellent
Lots of good ideas, thanks!
Excellent!
Solid effort Dude.
Giddy up
Did you had to buy the shelves inside extra?
Yes. I made shelves and wardrobe. Only the doors are from IKEA.
Great work Dave. Looks amazing
Thanks. Often now gets mistaken for the R NINE
badass mate
Giddy up!
Looks nice!
Thanks!
Very Nice Dave. I have one of these bikes too and now I feel inspired to do something like this with it too. Looks great!
Thanks! With a little creativity you can make anything truely your own.
Cool, can you change the indicators on this bmw?
Yep. Easy with a little skill. Front and back use a hollow threaded tube with one nut to secure. If converting to LED you may need to change the blinker can/driver as they use far less current.
@@dave9686 Yes, the more modern bmws seem more complicated and have some sort of canbus system. On this can you just put resistors and new led indicators on?
I’d imagine so as I’ve done it with other similar age vehicles.
@@dave9686 Thanks. Your bike looked great, the old type of indicators didn't fit the rest I want to do something similar.
Thanks and concur. Always a work in progress. Wish you well w your build. I’m in the process of doing similar w a 70 yo Holden FJ ute.
Close to a Rockster
In my opinion, it missed one finishing little work under the seats and the tank to make it looking better...
I concur. One day…
Thank you for sharing. Just wanted a real example of how the wood looks before buying as sometimes the marketing pictures have a different finish. Cheers from London, UK. Solid work on the wardrobe interior 👍
Thanks and totally concur re marketing spin. My partner hails from London UK ☺️
dear can i use this doors to cover a wall of 4 metrs large? the binaries are included ?
No, the doors won’t cover 4m. I don’t know what you mean by binaries.
@@dave9686 hi I mean the guide now I m looking the prices for IKEA skytta panel but the price for 4m is near 800 euro for the panel only I think is unbelievable!
Got you. IKEA don’t seem to sell a 4m here in Australia so can’t compare w your comment. 4m is a huge wardrobe tho so maybe your price is reasonable. And check - sometimes it includes other accessories other than just the door. Cheers.
Beautifully done
Thanks Mike. I did the temp. fit pillion pegs which work a treat.
I just came by one of these "all stock" 2004 model and I instantly thought, this would be a bad ass customized bike, eliminating all fo the extras so I went on YT looking for anyone who's done it and found your video. Very nice changes. Very much what I see in the look I could see in this bike. It's a badass looking. bike when customized to that rugged industrial look. and big engine. Nice job!
Great to hear and exactly what I thought! Very happy with the results and have also now done the pillion pegs with small internal rods and split pins so they can be added and removed in a few minutes. Also have had a few mistake the bike for the new BM model. Wish you well with your project. It’s dead easy.
@@dave9686 very nice!
Looks good 🏁🏁🏁🏁
Thx
Beautiful build. Ive just traded my 400 for an r1100r and this is inspiring !
Thanks mate. You will love the R BMW! I still get comments from people thinking it’s the new R nine. The bike is near 20 years old!
Hi Dave did you sell the camper?
Yes about two years ago. Went to a new happy owner in SA.
Nice work 👏👏👏
👍🏻
Awesome work Dave, can't wait to see it in person. What is the music track playing?
That means heaps Trish! Morad - a guy I played and did that album. He’s credited at the end.
Nice build!
Thanks. And a year on it’s still getting comments. Proof a 19 YO machine can last, look cool and perform.
Hi Dave. Looking good! How did you paint the engine part of the cycle? Did you just remove the seats and the tank and sprayed anything gray in flat black? Is the black paint holding well?
Thanks! Thorough degrease and cleaned the motor etc then masked up with the seat and tank off as you assumed. Then sprayed all in flat black engine paint (takes high heat and tougher). It’s holding up well except for a few stone chips which are easy to touch up. The black exhaust pipe wrap faded quickly and the engine paint worked well to blacken that up again although I don’t mind the used industrial look.
can you make a video how you installed the top bracket?
Sorry. No. It’s not rocket science. Screws to the top panel.
@@dave9686 thnx i was just wondering if yours was the new model or old one you're a real one
Bike looks awesome 👍
Thanks. With a bit of thought and planning it’s not hard to make a bike look unique and personal.
@@dave9686 I have a F650CS, 2004 that's gonna get similar treatment - it's worth more to me than anyone else!!
Very nice looking and you kept it simple
Cheers.
Thanks for the video, probably picking this up. How's the reflection on these in person? are they all nicely even aligned?
By reflection I assume you mean quality of mirror. It’s excellent. The alignment depends on the assembly and installation. Doors have an adjustment on each top corner to assist alignment with the cabinet.
Nice. I've had an 04 Rockster from new, which is BMW'S version of what you've done; flat bars, flat black paint and more conventional front guard. It's a really good gravel bike, even with the Angel GTs I run. My wheels are both 17 inches. Without the muffler it will run nicer with a booster plug.Very simple to fit gadget that richens the mixture a bit. They vibrate and surge like buggery when the valves need doing or the throttles need synching. The secondary spark plugs and coils can do weird, hard to diagnose things to the way it runs when they play up. Their big flaw was the ABS unit which you dont have so you're on a winner. My Rockster came with a panel to swap over with the pillion seat. One of these painted black would look good on your bike.
Really appreciate your feedback and advice. Deliberately went for an early model without ABS as I’d heard the early addition could be a pain. Will look into the booster plug mod. Cheers.
Love it , I want the same look but to scared to tackle..thanks..
Thanks. Stripping off the plastic is straight forward. Even the muffler is only a few bolts. Tyres are done in shop. A good clean of all wax and if you’re handy with a spray can you’re 70% done.
I think I will buy used rockster r 1150 2003. 38.000 miles Hope you will enjoy riding with it
But the position is more sporty can you recommend me what to ad to raise the bar?
Can’t go wrong with any BMW that has been looked after.
It’s a mater of taste. I’d strip off anything that’s not needed and a darker paint job always makes a bike look more unique and lethal.
Are you selling those panniers?
Thanks Jon. Sure. And have the top box also w the rack if interested.
Brilliant work!
Sincere thanks good sir!
Hi. Great motorcycle. But if you removed the rear passenger foot rests, you no longer need the passenger seat either? You should delete it and make some kind of paging rack instead. It could gave a nice look.
Thanks mate. True but I’m pinning the pillion foot pegs so I can retro fit them when required.
Can you post more about riding it off road ? I did my research about R series scrambler projects, there are some R1100R and 1150R, but not so much riding comments about off road.
The R1150R isn’t designed for riding off road. The 60/40 tyres are to add to the industrial look while giving ability to ride some off road with ease but not extensively.
