Pan on the Rosette Nebula
Cradled within the fiery petals of the Rosette Nebula is NGC 2244, the young star cluster which it nurtured. The cluster’s stars light up the nebula in vibrant hues of red, gold and purple, and opaque towers of dust rise from the billowing clouds around its excavated core. This image, captured by 570-megapixel Department of Energy-fabricated Dark Energy Camera (DECam), mounted on the U.S. National Science Foundation Víctor M. Blanco 4-meter Telescope at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory, a Program of NSF NOIRLab, is being released in celebration of NOIRLab’s fifth anniversary.

In this module of SatCons 101, information is provided on how astronomers and commercial space operators are seeking solutions that limit the negative effects of large satellite constellations on astronomical observations. Mitigations described include accurately predicting satellite positions; image processing techniques that can 'back-correct' for the presence of satellite trails in images; a...

Cosmoview Episode 86: DECam Confirms that Early-Universe Quasar Neighborhoods are Indeed Cluttered
Переглядів 7516 годин тому
Observations using the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) confirm astronomers’ expectation that early-Universe quasars formed in regions of space densely populated with companion galaxies. DECam’s exceptionally wide field of view and special filters played a crucial role in reaching this conclusion, and the observations reveal why previous studies seeking to characterize the density of early-Universe q...

This module reviews the international legal framework governing the human use of outer space and the ways in which national and international laws govern the deployment and operation of satellites. It explores the way in which existing environmental laws may interact with space activities; asks whether outer space is a legal 'commons'; and considers ways in which the rights of all users of spac...

The presence of large numbers of satellites in orbit around the Earth has effects beyond their impacts to astronomy. This module discusses the cultural significance of night skies and how the presence of many bright, moving objects in our skies presents a challenge to communities that access the night sky for recreation, tourism and/or religious practice. It raises concerns about the lack of co...

Atomic processes in the Earth's atmosphere light up the sky above the Rubin Auxiliary Telescope in streaks of red and green, a phenomenon known as airglow. Rubin AuxTel was previously the Calypso Telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO). In 2014 it was moved to its current site in Cerro Pachón after it was donated to the Rubin Observatory by its proprietor Edgar Smith. It will provide...

As Earth rotates the stars appear to travel west across the night sky over the Tohono O'odham Nation Reservation where KPNO is located. The observing dome periodically rotates to allow the telescope to track its target object as it moves throughout the night. The Wiscon...

This video is full of ridiculous proPAGANda. The entire "universe" model is absolutely destroyed by known laws of physics. "Space" is a scientifically-impossible place. Any "satellites" above us are suspended from BALLOON systems. NOTHING is "in orbit" around the mythical "planet". Our world is empirically and demonstrably level, stationary and enclosed. There are ZERO experiments that have EVER proven our realm's supposed curvature over water OR any assumptions of its motion (axial rotation, orbit around the sun, chasing the sun through the Milky Way "galaxy", or assumptions of its motion through the fairy tale "universe").

This is not a video, it's a computer-generated simulation. The Heliocentric model, and with it, the "universe", is based ONLY in philosophical supposition and speculation, not empirical evidence and experimentation. Nice try.

In reality, past the 7 second mark DOESN'T happen. There is a ton of empty blackness between stars at that focal length and smaller stars don't keep appearing and growing larger. This video has been manipulated. It's a crafty trick to make you think the scientifically-impossible "universe" continues on and on, but that's not the case! The Firmament is a solid barrier over our realm. It's a set distance above sea level. The objects IN it are fixed in place relative to one another, and that's why ZERO stellar parallax has EVER been observed OR recorded. There is no "universe", no infinite "space". The "universe" model is based in philosophy, not testable, repeatable, measurable science. The sun and moon are INSIDE here with us and are very small and very close. According to the Inverse Square Law of Light, the term "light year" is AN IMPOSSIBLE MEASUREMENT. Light, ALL light, fades fairly rapidly over relatively short distances and becomes impossible to see. The whole "space" narrative is a lie.
