Welcome to OT Time with Casey!
Who is on the IEP team?
Who needs to be on the IEP team and who will be at the IEP meeting? Let's talk about what the law says... who NEEDS to be on the team and how the entire team does not always attend the actual meeting. We also cover how you as the parent can be sure to have the people you want to be there at the meeting. Including outside professionals or a supportive friend.

Routines For Sensory Kids
Переглядів 4013 роки тому
Routines for kids with sensory processing differences are essential to helping them feel safe. Clear expectations of what is happening, what the boundary line is, and how a parent responds to pushing those boundaries gives them something to hold onto securely in a sometimes scary and ever changing environment. Routines are also helpful for our sensory kids who are super distractible, can’t stay...

Is sensory processing disorder causing my child's picky eating? Do all picky eaters have SPD? How does nutrition impact sensory processing? Am I the cause of my child's picky eating?? Feeding your child with a limited or restricted diet is a daily stressor. We do what we can to feed our children, but the battles, tears, and stress around mealtimes can sometimes be too much to handle on our own....

When Should My Baby Start... Motor Milestones Birth - 12 Months
I just want to say that for an IEP, your child does not have to have a diagnosis, everybody just needs to agree that your child has some sort of disability and has an educational need.
U tube will not open link for me...
I volunteered at my son's school was the Home and School Association President and President of the local Community Association.......My son did not have any issues but I still advocated for the SPED students, and helped out in the classes from K - 8. I helped other parents by sitting in on their child's IEP Meetings and even having Workshops after school to educate them.....had educators from the local Ivy League also come in and participate, some pshychology professionals who did instruction on what the science says about their child's needs. I am now, helping my sister in law with her Autistic son who has an IEP meeting and this is a great refresher since it has been over 8 years since I helped out....thank you so much for this video.
What if I don’t want to do any of that and school is pushing me to do it. The reason is that my child has a hard time only with focusing. Her grades are good, she gets A’s and B’s , the only problem is her attention. Can they force a parent to do it? Do I have to a right to refuse to do that?
This is life changing. How can i contact you
❤
Thank you so much. We just figures this all out last night and I've been feeling horrible for how short tempered I've become with him and he's only 2. I really want to be a great dad so thank you. You have no idea how happy I am to learn
Thank you
You’re videos are very valuable! Thank you!
This is an excellent and very informative video! Thank you
What about 9 year olds. My sis is an Ot its like this is all geared to little ones but we do have kids that are older and extremely picky with no options
I have a question, if the scores on the language test are below 79 does that qualify for an iep ?
Yes do a video on private schools
I actually struggled quite a bit with the audio on this. (it was the quieter lulls in speech pattern ... followed by random + sudden louder spikes in volume/pitch while she said certain words/sounds) I don't dislike the content and I really don't mean to criticize anyone here. _(more of a auditory sensitivity awareness kind of comment 🙂)_
I don’t really understand how rough housing can be done without a lot of movement
Do you keep the music playing all night long?
This was such an amazing video and resource. After nearly 20 years teaching and parent advocacy coaching I learners able to learn some new things in such a digestible way. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and wisdom. Lol-I’ve already shared it with a family behavior and life skills coach that expressed earlier today many of her parents not quite understanding the difference between the two as well as their rights . This is truly appreciated🤍✨
Is school decide between IEP and 504? We were not told about these two and school decided 504 for my kid I did not even know there was IEP
Thank you for the video. Our oldest skipped crawling and he has some trouble with coordination and retained reflexes. Do you have any tips or tricks on what to do for older kids (4+) that skipped crawling?
I feel like these don't work these plans don't go past division ➗ math, no civics very little history. Very little education, just a pass through school w/o the real life world education you need. It's harder to take a college entry test, don't let me get started on essay writing...
Thanks a TON. GOD BLESS YOU 😊
Can you post again just found this channel
Crip camp.... one of the best documentary ive ever seen
This was very helpful tips thank you
Why'd you quit UA-cam I just found your channel
Thanks so much for this amazing video 🙂
sweet i am a senior hooray bro
love it, thank you!
Good video
I’m 16 and going into 11th grade, I’m about to start the process of getting a 504 for my misophonia, this video helped a lot!!
this video needs captions, would be very helpful. otherwise, love your videos. ty!
This girl is a genius!
So what if they crawl in a less traditional way? Like the frog crawl one leg out and one under the body?
Thank you ❤️
Great video! I would also add that parents are supposed be given their rights in paper. It’s important to not be nonchalant about receiving those rights and to read through all of it. We have the tendency to just agree and no it it along like the terms and conditions we are constantly bombarded with. But all parents should receive their rights in writing prior to an IEP meeting. Read it. You can’t know if you don’t read about it.
Thank you So So So much for this video!! I came to UA-cam searching for some guidance for my struggling 3rd grader!! You got my heart when you said “your child is not defined by these things” 😭 Just starting the process to try to get my kiddo some help at school.
I'm in the same boat as you with my 3rd grader. Just had my parent teacher conference where I had to bring up the IEP
Thank you, super helpful.
Great video! Thank you!
What age can they start crawling? Can they crawl by birth?
It was a very interesting video. If I may suggest, you should record your video in a orofessiobal set up, even against a pkain white wall and in a professional attire. You are giving a very useful advices but the brain cannot avoid to think you are an amatour, a stay at home mum that simply shares her experience when you are doing much more. I think it will help you gain visibility that you deserve 😊
My baby is 6 months and pulling up to stand on his play gym. It's now all he wants to do. He's a heavy boy and hates tummy time because he can't lift his tummy up. Should I stop him pulling to stand? Thanks so much!
Thank you for breaking down some of this! It's so much information and I'm trying to remember it all. I've got one son with an IEP and my other son has a 504. I had to fight the school with my youngest and take it to district after they did a BIP evaluation when I told them for years something was wrong with his reading and writing! They finally got a psychologist involved and some other people and sure enough he is dyslexic! Then they tried to take his speech iep after his dyslexia diagnosis! It was a mess. My other son has a 504 for his adhd and anxiety and he is failing in school! It is ridiculous. So I'm trying to prepare for more meetings. I also have considered trying to become an advocate!
A 504 plan does not need a diagnoses. The law literally says, word for word, you need to have the Suspicion of a disability.
Your videos are so helpful. I wish I could help you boost your channel.
Here's the thing. My lecturer gave us this 'homework' about the connection between crawling and speech ability (and/or cognition, excuse my language i hope you understand). Found this video and it's really helpful. Thank you.
This was so helpful! Can we please have a video about special education and private school? :D
Great information. I can tell that you care.
Can a kiddo have SPD and ADHD?
Yes I have spd and I’m a child
What about older kids help
My both children did not crowl. Oldest did manage to get out of her bed thou... clibming. So strenght of her hands was alright. It was about 8 month. What she did do - she was climbing everything..moving aroud the house holding to everything
