"Begone, unbelief, my Saviour is near" by John Newton. Gadsyb Hymn 232. Tune 'City Road Chapel'.
Entire Hymn:
1
Begone, unbelief, my Saviour is near,
And for my relief will surely appear;
By prayer let me wrestle, and he will perform;
With Christ in the vessel, I smile at the storm.
2
Though dark be my way, since he is my Guide,
’Tis mine to obey, ’tis his to provide;
Though cisterns be broken, and creatures all fail,
The word he has spoken shall surely prevail.
3
His love in time past forbids me to think
He’ll leave me at last in trouble to sink;
Each sweet Ebenezer I have in review
Confirms his good pleasure to help me quite through.
4
Determined to save, he watched o’er my path,
When, Satan’s blind slave, I sported with death.
And can he have taught me to trust in his name,
And thus far have brought me to put me to shame?
5
[Why should I complain of want or distress,
Temptation or pain? He told me no less;
The heirs of salvation, I know from his word,
Through much tribulation must follow their Lord.]
6
How bitter that cup, no heart can conceive,
Which he drank quite up that sinners might live!
His way was much rougher and darker than mine;
Did Christ, my Lord, suffer, and shall I repine?
7
Since all that I meet shall work for my good,
The bitter is sweet, the medicine is food;
Though painful at present, ’twill cease before long,
And then O how pleasant the conqueror’s song!

1 Lord, we fain would walk in love, But, alas! how slow we move; Pride, that haughty monster, pride, Often makes us start aside. 2 Lamb of God, thy power make known; Sweetly draw, and we will run; Make our love to thee and thine Like the sun at noon-day shine. 3 As the purchase of thy blood, May we seek each other’s good; And be it our great concern, Thee to view, of thee to learn. 4 May we mou...

Entire hymn: 1 Jehovah’s awful name revere, In humble praise, with holy fear; In glory throned, divinely bright, All worlds are nothing in his sight. 2 [The numerous proud, self-righteous host, Who fondly of their something boast, Will find their something nothing more Than what will prove them blind and poor. 3 O may my soul such folly shun, Nor ever boast what I have done; But at God’s footst...

1 Jesus, lead me by thy power Safe into the promised rest; Hide my soul within thy arms; Make me lean upon thy breast. 2 Be my guide in every peril, Watch me hourly, night and day; Else my foolish heart will wander From thy Spirit far away. 3 In thy presence I am happy; In thy presence I’m secure; In thy presence all afflictions I can easily endure. 4 In thy presence I can conquer, I can suffer...

The Church. (Psalm 100:4; Psalm 122) 1 How did my heart rejoice to hear My friends devoutly say, “In Zion let us all appear, And keep the solemn day”! 2 I love her gates; I love the road; The church, adorned with grace, Stands like a palace built for God To show his milder face. 3 Up to her courts, with joys unknown, The holy tribes repair; The Son of David holds his throne, And sits in judgmen...

For this hymn with singing: ua-cam.com/video/_R-DhJwYevI/v-deo.html 1 Hail, mighty Jesus! how divine Is thy victorious sword! The stoutest rebel must resign At thy commanding word. 2 Deep are the wounds thy arrows give; They pierce the hardest heart; Thy smiles of grace the slain revive, And joy succeeds to smart. 3 Still gird thy sword upon thy thigh, Ride with majestic sway; Go forth, sweet P...

“Thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin.” (Isaiah 53:10) 1 Was it for sin, for mortal guilt, The Saviour gave his vital blood; For sin amazing anguish felt, The wrath of an offended God? 2 And shall I harbour in my breast (Tremble, my soul, at such a deed) This dreadful foe, this fatal guest, The sin that made the Saviour bleed? 3 Come, glorious Conqueror, gracious Lord, Thy all-prevailin...

A unique Canadian tune. The tune 'Recessional' was composed by James Edmund Jones (1866-1939), a Toronto, Ontario magistrate. 1 O thou with battering tempest tossed, Perplexed and shattered here and there, Bewildered on a legal coast, And finding no deliverance near, On Jesus calling with sad thought, But Jesus seems to mind thee not! 2 Soon as thy heart can moaning cry, “What must a wretched s...

Dependence on Christ alone. John 13:1; 1 Peter 1:5 1 If ever it could come to pass, That sheep of Christ might fall away, My fickle, feeble soul, alas! Would fall a thousand times a day; Were not thy love as firm as free, Thou soon would’st take it, Lord, from me. 2 I on thy promises depend; At least I to depend desire; That thou wilt love me to the end, Be with me in temptation’s fire; Wilt fo...

1 Sons of God, in tribulation, Let your eyes the Saviour view; He’s the Rock of our salvation, He was tried and tempted too; All to succour Every tempted, burdened son. 2 ’Tis if need be, he reproves us, Lest we settle on our lees; Yet he in the furnace loves us; ’Tis expressed in words like these: “I am with thee, Israel, passing through the fire.” 3 To his church, his joy, and treasure, Every...
