So some clarification: In this take on the story, Mario is the bad guy. He got possessed by the Stellarvinden/Star Conference Team/whatever tf their names were idk to start The War (by eating the world's supply of peaches) and kill all the nonbelievers bc according to Paul (the favorite of all), only 7 people in the world still had faith in the stars. Browser dies in the ensuing boss fight and is replaced by the glass copy we see in Thousands of Doors. Or at least, that's how Fatguy703 puts it.
