We are a few average joe's sharing our passion for the outdoors. We are located in Western New York and want to share our adventures in the outdoors of New York and show what it has to offer. We also aim to help those who are just starting their hunting and fishing journey, or looking for a fresh perspective on the activity.
The Pursuit of Inches: 2024 New York Invitational
The 2024 New York Kayak Invitational features the best 60 Kayak Bass Anglers in New York State competing as a team and individually. This year the Invitational was held on the Seneca, Oneida, and Oswego Rivers. For this tournament, I chose to fish a section of the Oswego River. I finished 12th place securing a spot as one of the top 15 anglers in New York State! A great way to cap off an incredible 2024! Thank you for following along this season and be excited for 2025 with season 2 of this series!

The Pursuit of Inches: Fulton Chain Of Lakes

This is a bonus derb for the year where I decided to go fish the Slay Nation NY Tournament on the Fulton Chain of Lakes in Old Forge, NY. I waned desperately to fish in the Adirondacks this summer and with summer coming to a close, I had to jump at this chance. I took home 3rd , which was my best finish in a live tournament to date on a body of water I had not fished before. I had an absolute B...

The last NYKBF regular season tournament takes us to Sodus Bay! As the norm for 2024, it was a gusty one. 14-15 mph sustained with 25 mph gusts from the south. The bass were chewing a jig something fierce this day! Time to make up some ground heading into the State Championship on Cayuga Lake in September! Tournament #4 of the season takes place on the largest and deepest Finger Lake, Seneca Lake. Known for it's Lake Trout and Salmon fishing, it has been rumored to be a sneaky good Bass fishery as well! This tournament was a grind with many people not able to catch a limit. It was a rollercoaster of a day and emotions ran hot. Enjoy!

With the Spring portion of the trail over, we get more time in between tournaments which means I get to fun fish! I hit up one of my home ponds with my good friend Brandon Lewis of Fish Hunt Chronicles to chase some spawn-time bass! Oh, and we played dodgeball with thunderstorms as well. Tournament #2 of the 2024 NYKBF Tournament Season takes us out to Syracuse to Onondaga Lake! This lake has some sneaky good bass fishing and did not disappoint for my first time fishing it. The spring is off to a HOT pre-spawn bite and it's only going to get better. This lake produced some GIANT bags! Plenty of room to grow and plenty of season left. Best backpack for Saddle Hunting? The Mystery Ranch Pop Up 38
How durable is it, I’m considering in buying one but I don’t want to buy one and it rips on me 3 months from now
STILL in use after 4 years of use both in NY as well as in Florida! - Sean
Congratulations on a great season. Never knew kayak bassing was a thing til stumbling upon your channel. Turns out my friend Sam's 2 sons Dale and Brad are tournament yak fishermen too. Very cool! I'll be tuning in to see how you do next season too. Cheers.
Thank you! If their last name is VanHorn I fish against them! Glad you enjoy the content!
@585OutdoorsTV Sure is the Van Horn clan. And I heard it from a little birdie that Sam may just be trading in his bass boat for a kayak and joining the tour next season. He will be a formidable opponent. Good luck!
@ oh boy that will be a fun crew!!
Invitational hype!
@@AlfredMorganFishing ALL the hype!
Great job, dawg! Congrats on ROY
@@BEtheFish thank you sir! Congrats on the three-peat!
Congratulations on your ROY. Good luck in the club derby.
Thank you!
What holster?
What do you think about the sawtooth 45 or pintler for saddle hunting ?
@@From_the_mil the sawtooth 45 might be a touch to big versus the Pintler. I do like the pintler though as a larger pack option, I just like to have a lid to have my calls and other smaller things readily available once I’m up there. I’ve used an exo K2 3500 before and found it a bit cumbersome to climb with. But that’s just me.
@@585OutdoorsTV I was also looking at the kuiu pro 2300
@@From_the_mil now that’s a pack that would work well!
You fished in the beautiful Adirondack mountains, and then spent the tournament staring at your graph. Lol. Congratulations on the third place finish regardless.
tried 8g last year, trying 4j this year. Gl out there great video.
Great video, bro!
Thanks man!
Very beautiful trip, very beautiful video Do you cook the fish that you catch?
@@somematters5713 sometimes I do! Not on this trip but I do like to keep trout I catch from a couple local lakes!
@@585OutdoorsTV Why you don’t eat fish from Seneca Lake Is there any problem with the fish from this lake? Thank you
@@somematters5713 I was in a catch and release tournament during this trip. Otherwise I would!
What jerkbait were you throwing??

How do you like the native slayer?
@@03jhemi compared to other kayaks in its price point, it’s a solid boat. Gets water in the cockpit easily which can be annoying at times. But I have been very happy with it!
@@585OutdoorsTV yes, I agree. I have the same exact boat down to the color lol my biggest gripe is the water in the cockpit as well. Curious how the titan x compares
@@03jhemi I am also very curious about that as well. I have only seen the titan X but nice in person and it seems to ride a bit higher. It’s really the design of the drain cut on the front by the handle. Just the slightest waves lets water in. Not sure if the Titan X has the same design or not.
Face way way to close to camera. just a tip , no disrespect
“Get over here you big beautiful *****!!” 🤣
I was excited what can I say 😂
Need some cayuga action!
It will be coming lol
You from the Rochester area?
Originally from Spencerport, now live in Honeoye
@@585OutdoorsTV nice, I live in Gates/Spencerport now and just went to Honeoye Lake for the first time this last weekend and crushed them! Nothing big, I think the biggest was 3.5lbs
@@thereeljoshua4820 nice! Honeoye is a Great Lake to just get out and catch a bunch. The size is much better on Hemlock and Canadice!
Nice
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 my money is on you for ROY!!!
Hey like your videos I live in Amherst near Buffalo I hunt mostly in Allegheny county on public your buddy's land was remote is that near zoar valley
It’s actually down in south wales around hunters creek! Couple big deer down there and turkeys if you can get on them! My first and only bird so far was taken there and it was a mega bird! Love that area!
I didn't hear you mention the size of the board your revewing.
It’s a 12’4” board
badass video
Thank you!
Great video…I could feel your pain and frustration.
Thank you! That one stung more than the miss I had earlier! But that’s all part of the chase!
hell yeah brother! loving the winter warmer days in upstate haha nice video sir!
I would kill for a 50 degree day lol but this was a fun day! Excited for the spring to get here for sure!
get out this past weekend! 55 where i was in Livingston county. was great haha! looking forward to more. @@585OutdoorsTV
All these hunting "experts" have so many tattoos, that acts as a camouflage in itself.
Oooo that’s my next tattoo idea! Do you think Realtree would sue if I got one of their patterns as a sleeve? If not zebra stripes are my back up plan. - Ian
I never claimed to be an expert, I'm an amateur at best. I enjoy sharing and teaching what I do know. I will forever be a student of science and conservation, and sometimes, tradition.
Down right freezing is 15 and below. Between 15 and 25 hand warmers are optional. 25 and above smile
My man, I’ve been needing this video, thank you
🫡
If you want to go above and beyond with the Rit Dying dye it apple green, then spot dye or tie-dye random spots brown. Then you have both macro and micro patterns.
Good review man. 8 just bought the UV button and like it until I shot this one my buddy had. I ordered this one today so it looks like I'll be selling the ultra view if anyone is looking
Useful review, thanks. You're right about the pull-tab and shock cord closure! Quick video tip. Don't have a really bright area immediately behind you as the camera will base its exposure on that -- you and the Glasspak are both really dark, and it's impossible to see any detail of the straps, clips, pockets, etc.
Thank you for this! Really enjoyed it.
I’m glad you enjoyed this! Going to see more of this in the future!
When it gets below 32 are you using the furnace as a next to skin base layer? Or do you use the kiln next to skin and then wear the furnace on top of that?
Below 32 degrees I would wear kiln next to skin then furnace. Just keep in mind that any walk out you do might be a bit hot. If possible wear just the kiln under your outer layer then once in the stand and starting to cool down throw that furnace on over the kiln and you should be good!
@@585OutdoorsTV could you wear furnace next to skin for a walk in on a windy 20 degree day or do you think that would still make you overheat?
@@masonoertli4099 you shouldn’t overheat with that combo either! The combo of the kiln and furnace is only needed for a extended stationary part of a hunt in those conditions!
Amazing work as always!
Great video, thank you!
Welcome! Going to have to do a 3.0 version soon!
@@585OutdoorsTV awesome. Can’t wait. My only suggestion is a summary graphic for each heat range you determine as well as the layers you reviewed for that category.
@@USMCmatt thank you for the feedback! I will definitely add that in the future!
0comments? You deserve better!
13% is far from suitable FOC that's about what I would shoot out of a tournament bow I wouldn't even consider it for hunting
Depends on the game you are going after. For deer, that has worked just fine for me. I’ve gotten pass throughs at that FOC on every animal I’ve shot. If you were going after something with thicker hide, then yes bump it up. But for what I hunt, 13% works fine
I will never forget dropping that fish into the 6in hole in the floor so it could go back home...Thanks again, that day was a blast!
Of course my friend!
Ropeman 1 with 8mm rope is outta spec. Don't die bro
I find it inspirational that you are not afraid of your stutter when producing videos. This is due to my own speech impediment.
It’s apart of who I am. I’m very much a what you see is what you get type of person! Sometimes I can edit them out, but usually I leave them in. Not the best actor 😂
Great video...great no shoot!...very successful hunt in my book
It was tough to pass but better to let them walk than make a poor shot. Going to need to do some trimming this off season lol
How did you come up with the name 585?
It’s the area code for where I live!
Oh no! Not Ocho! Nice vid bro.
Thank you! He broke off his right brow tine so he was a STUD 7. I got to see a picture of the Hunter that got him.
Definitely my favorite video so far
Favorite part lol
Good job! Don’t be hard on yourself. We can practice 24/7 and mistakes will happen. That’s hunting. The main thing is you followed thru and that is a true ethical hunter. Nice freezer queen.
Exactly! That was my take away from this experience. It was going to happen at some point and out of all the bad shots to make, that was the best of the bad shots.
CONGRADULATIONS! Any deer taken is a trophy. Your hard work paid off! We are deer hunters!
Thank you! One heck of an encounter!
Thought about saddle hunting myself. Just not sure if it is comfortable for long days in the stand. It was a tough archery season for me this year in PA.
As long as you have knee pads or a foam pad to strap to the tree it’s actually pretty comfy! The trade off for lightweight mobility, it’s worth the money in my opinion!
Blessings and respect from Canada. This is only my second season hunting, so I appreciate the time you spent going over your gear. I'm a southern Ontario Turkey and deer hunter. My issue is with swetting. I always get cold because I swet. Trying to formulate the best investment of my money. Good luck.
Anytime! I also made an updated version of this video on my channel as well! I will say their outer layers do a great job of keeping you warm even if you have sweat a good amount getting into the stand. Could also try to put insulation layers on once you are set up in the stand or wherever you are hunting. Just need to let your body cool off. Some of their new foundry pants and systems offer zippers to vent heat as well!
I like woodland camo. Multicamo is good
Now it's over $200. I just purchased the bino harness. Range finder 2.0. Tether cord. And shoulder pads. Costed just over $200. :( the harness jumped up to $110 and tge new range finder pouch is $42
Woahhh. Obviously this video is dated but I did not realize how much it’s jumped.
Bottomland looks very similar to the strichtarn (rain) pattern used in the Eastern European countries. (I’m not super knowledgeable about origin)
