Andrew Michael Classical Guitar
Приєднався 11 лют 2016
My name is Andrew Michael and I am a guitar player and music teacher in eastern Oklahoma. This channel is dedicated to my classical guitar performances, at least for now. I may broaden my scope in the future to include videos on technique, theory and history with the instrument and possibly electric guitar works. I teach private lessons, both viturally and in person, for guitar, piano, and ukulele at Saied Music in Tulsa, OK to all ages. I strive to do all things to the Glory of God.

Prelude from The 4th Lute Suite by J. S. Bach

Link to my recording of the full suite ua-cam.com/video/yjztwITkZbc/v-deo.htmlsi=GvFZlnMe45UI4THS The opening piece to the BWV 1006a suite, one of Bach's best works. Originally for the lute, this work has been adapted to guitar and is a staple in the classical guitar repertoire canon. When I'm asked what my favorite song is, I usually answer with this piece. "Una Limosna por el Amor de Dios" by Agustín Barrios

"An Alm for the Love of God" A tremolo piece by Agustín Barrios Mangoré. Technically speaking, it's a challenge as is the case with tremolo pieces. Musically it's absolutely brilliant; one of his most evocative and emotional pieces. It begins in the minor key and ends in the parallel major. Normally a recipe for a triumphant and glorious ending. But in this piece it somehow creates the opposite...
"La Catedral" by Agustín Barrios
Переглядів 865Місяць тому
Barrios was inspired to write this piece in 1914 when he came across a Church where Bach's music was being played on the organ so he listened for a while. The "Andante Religioso" represents this part of the story. When the performance was over, Barrios leaves the serene ambiance of the Church and returns to the noise of the hurried and busy world. The Allegro Solemne depicts this, hence the sta...
Mallorca (Barcarola) op. 202 by I. Albéniz
Переглядів 506Місяць тому
One of Albeniz's most popular pieces on the guitar. This composition is inspired by the Spanish Mediterranean island with the same name. Mallorca (Majorca) is one of Spain's Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean. It's known for limestone mountains sheltered coves, and Roman and Moorish remains. This excellent arrangement is from Stanley Yates' collection. Soli Deo Gloria! Guitar: Hanika 54PC St...
BWV 997 Prelude by J. S. Bach - Performed by Andrew Michael
Переглядів 144Місяць тому
Yet another remarkable piece by Bach. This whole suite has a certain atmosphere to it that's very ethereal to my ear. This Prelude is one that sounds better when played more steadily and metered compared to other preludes. Most Preludes invite a sense of ebb and flow, or rubato, to be applied to it, but this one less so. At least that's my opinion. One thing I did with this whole suite(link bel...

"Rio Acima" by Ulisses Rocha

A gorgeous piece of music by Ulisses Rocha. Rio Acima means "up river" but it's also the name of a city in Brazil. I'm not exactly sure why Ulisses gave it the the title, but it's a brilliant example of word painting. This song evokes images of flowing streams and glistening rivers. Soli Deo Gloria! I've heard similar renditions (John Williams, and I believe even Barrios himself with this ancient recording). This version is quite different from mine. The note durations, and the intro (harmonics-part) are the obvious differences. Do you know if there are two distinct versions? I used the score sheets from the yellow Zen-On books. You played it very beautifully ;-) . Bravo!
Thank you! :) I had you in mind when I was working on this. You video of this piece made me want to pick it up again. I also noticed differences in your rendition. I was working out of the Rico Stover publication, which does contain some alternatives for certain spots throughout it. Barrios was a skilled improviser and probably played it differently throughout his lifetime. The version you play may be lifted from a recording that differs from the manuscripts that Rico was working with or something like that. But that's just my speculation.
Never even heard this before, I'm about to overplay the shit out of it
So how long did it take you to learn this piece?
Hmmm, well I remember playing it for my student recital the same semester I started working on it, so a few months I suppose. It's honestly such a demanding piece in many respects that it took me years before I became confident in performing it regularly. That was about 10 years ago and I still feel like I'm just trying to keep up with it.
@@AndrewMichaelCG well I'm impressed! That's a HUGE piece
This is my dream piece. I'm coming up on a year working on a fugue by bach 1000. I think this one would take just as long
I love that one! I've played through it a handful of times, but have yet to learn it. Are you learning it in A minor?
@@AndrewMichaelCG yes! I'm learning Breams version. Almost finished but probably won't attempt to perform it for another 6 months
Very nice! Keep at it brother! I was reading off of the original violin version when I was working on it. It's original in g minor and I wanted to see how well it would work note for note on the guitar in the original key. It's a challenge but it can be adapted. Same goes for the whole suite. There just aren't enough pieces in g minor for guitar!
Beautiful
❤WOW! This really makes you feel something!!
Well done! Bravo!👏👏👏 In your short you state, that this piece is trickier than you remember. I totally agree. To play it "somehow" is not too difficult, but to play it cleanly, and metered is something entirely different. And I agree, that this piece is overplayed. Nonetheless it's a classic, and I enjoyed your rendition!
Exactly! It's not terribly difficult, but as you said, playing it clean and metered is where the challenge really is.
That is a tricky Bach piece. You nailed it down perfectly! Well done!👏👏👏
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing
What a fantastic music I never heard of classic Bach’s with guitar. What’s amazing ❤
Very charming music video 👍 I really enjoy the creativity of your classical guitar music videos, the guitar sounds are so beautiful and touch my heart, happy to find you here my new friend, greetings ❤ from Indonesia
Thank you so much!
Bravo, Amazing performance, congratulations. I have subscribed to your channel.
👍 Thank you!
Bravo! This one is such a tour de force.
Agreed!
whoa very well played!!
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Woooooow!
This composition is the reason I started learning classical guitar. Congratulations, your performance was spot on!!!
Great tremolo and overall performance, congratulations. You capture the feeling of the piece very well, too. There is a typo in the Spanish title. The correct title is: una limosna por el amor de Dios (it is written “limnosa”).
I appreciate the compliment and the spelling correction! I'll have to do the thumbnail later, but the video title is fixed which should help to get more traffic with search results. Glad you enjoyed my video performance!
Bravo. So beautiful
Beautifull - you are so talented
Thank you! :)

Applause Applause! Extraordinary piece, and your presentation of it is outstanding.
Awesome!!!
I wholeheartedly agree.
It's underplayed. Amazing.
People don't appreciate classical music like they do before 😢
Beautiful and dramatic!!
Bravo Andrew, very fine tremolo playing!
Thanks Juan! :)
Very nice Andrew! Haven't heard this piece in quite a while. Your tremolo was very good! I'm afraid of tremolo. I've never mastered this technique. But it is so beautiful....
Thank you Michael! I appreciate that! Honestly, the tremolo exercises in Pumping Nylon are gold. If you never tried those I'd recommend them. It certainly takes a lot of work, but it's worth it. I could see a musician of your caliber making it happen!
you can hear the difference now but in a mix or at a live performance it's barely there, so to all neofites i say don't stress it too much
If I could claim a super power, it would definitely be nitpicking 😄
Now I want to play it on my fretless bass. Thanks
Do it!
I like spruce more, it's more unusual, expressive and old-fashioned to my ear
I feel the same way. There's just something special about spruce tops
Incredible 🔥🔥 Love the CD collection too!
Tough call, spruce sounds more "together" but the cedar has more bass sustain. I like 'em both.
❤. Sweet. I see your beautiful fuzzy face a lot on my u tube streams. Do you feel me smiling at you and your bro and your sis?? ❤❤❤ You been paining in canvas Any ?? And who ya voting for. Please vote the way your momma is. Ok ? Love you guys.
Excellent Andrew!
Thank you Juan!
metal. Well played!
👏👏
Very nice! Dramatic ❤❤
Drew can do some serous drama. ❤
I really want to learn this on the guitar
Sorry, Andrew, but this one sounds like you're plying it in your sleep.
Apologies unnecessary! You're entitled to your opinion. This is one of my first "real" recordings and I'll admit it's a rather stiff performance. I still have trouble not tensing up once the mics and cameras are recording.
@@AndrewMichaelCG
Plodding, uninspired, dreary.
hell yeah brother
Very good! 👏
For practice i would prefer spruce, it's just a good feeling for me the sound is soft and the tone goes straight to my ears and to my heart ❤ _ the sound of cedar seems to be '' dancing a little '' and do its own thing before i hear it ?? If that makes sense. The tone is '' dressed fancy '' or something like that ?? 😊 I like it but for everyday use i am more a spruce type of gal. 🫶 Thank you for sharing it was very relaxing and pleasant to listen to 🫶🤗
Thank you for your feedback! I'm partial to spruce as well. I do like the cedar's "fancy" tone as you put it, but the spruce has a better overall balance IMO. The cedar is new to me and I'm still figuring out where I prefer it to the spruce. I agree, the spruce sound goes straight to the heart. So glad you enjoyed it. Your feedback back was very helpful!
Really wonderful! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks Juan! :)
Excellent! I really like Yates' transcriptions the best. I only wish I could play them as well as you!
😊 I appreciate that!
Nice to see someone play something and not just cram a million notes in
Well, I've been guilty of that more than once 😂
As always technically brilliant! I have enjoyed your videos for some time now,and I am impressed by your repertoire, not the least all those Bach pieces.
I appreciate the encouragement Robert, thank you! :)
Suena genial
Such a complex piece. Well done!
Great playing, and a very beautiful piece!
