What a great video, i got an amazing shot but i was wondering why my extraction starts at 9 bars but within 7-10 seconds it declines to 7 bars? Is it that i need to grind finer? What I'm trying to achieve is 3 bar infusion for 12 seconds and i do that by after pressing the manual button, i open the water valve very carefully so i wouldn't stop the extraction and then close it after infusion to hit 9 bar.
@@SlimShady044Gaming thanks. That will be the puck degrading as the shot progresses. So set pre infusion to 12 secs. Do you have the slayer mod?
@@SteveHowkins no I'm using the hot water valve trick to release pressure,
I’m trying to decide between the a6400 and the zve-10 mostly doing video but unsure which I should get
Can we use this in over the head videos of making decors with clay in sharp quality?
Steve nice review. I am thinking of getting one. Can you heat cups on top of the unit ?
it does "warm" the cups and take the chill off. Not much more than that in my opinion.
So cool! Do you know what size milk pitcher you have? I want to get that cappuccino glass but I'm worried by milk pitcher may be too large
I think it is 490ml
@@SteveHowkins cool, thanks for responding! Mine is 450 so I should be good.
My dream to have it
I have the normal T64 grinder in white but the powder coating is awful, i dont know how i can explain it but it looks like it has darker spots and brighter pots like brownish clouds, its not evenly white. The white is also more like a dirty white color on my device. Also the nozzle piece has a darker white compared to the rest.
Yes my zero collar is a different colour and texture white than the grinder. I agree its not the best but for the money I wont complain.
@@SteveHowkins but what about the paint of the body, mine has like shadows/clouds in it, like some spots are brighter white, it looks like fingerprints but you can not wipe it away. Maybe the dealer stored it wrong or the metal was not really prepared before powder coating?
Are you from Nottingham?
Sorry, no
Since i am in germany i want to buy the german version of this grinder die Emil T64 without the adjustable RPM but they decided to fit the grinder with a black rubber and black dosing cup which is ugly as hell in my mind. Do you think i can order those parts which are originally grey in england seperately? In my mind die Black/white just dont fit in my kitchen.
i doubt it unfortunately. I haven't seen it sold separately like with most grinders.
Hahah the dark roast torture was worth it: I subscribed 😂
Finally after owning this device for weeks, I was able to get a perfect cup of coffee thanks to your video. Loved the wrong zoomed in take, got 1 detail which made the difference for me. Keep it up man 💪
@SteveHowkins Do you know whether the OPV is now correctly set with new sales of the SDB?
@@hash5191 I doubt it. I think you have to keep in mind the 10.5 they are set at is pump pressure and not at the puck. Without using a scace type device (which I’m sure someone has done) it’s difficult to tell what pressure the puck is seeing. With all the recent testing I think pressure is less of a concern for getting an enjoyable shot. Past talk has put an emphasis on 9 bar shots when in reality you probably won’t taste the difference if it’s more.
@@SteveHowkins Thanks for that, I really enjoyed your review on the SDB! I'll throw this in - do you think the Bambino Plus can produce the same silky milk as the DB or theres a difference. I'm wondering whether you can create same cafe quality coffee with the BP as you nearly can with the DB, or is it that the cafe quality is far superior using the BP or DB (ofc the grinder needs to be up there and other aspects like the basket etc.)? I'm just torn between them only because of the footprint!
@@hash5191 I think the BP can produce good results. The Db will have more power so be easier to get good coffee but I’m sure Lance Hedrick has done so BP videos and shown it’s capable.
I bought an Action 2 with the upgraded 128 gb of memory. It is awesome for making bicycling videos, but I have never used the magnetic pendant. It fits the bill for my purposes. I considered buying an Action 3 now that the price is quite low, but if you look at the specs, it is just an Action 2 in a different format. True, the batteries are cheaper, but not worth buying for me.
Would you recommend this over fujifilm xt30ii?
@@JADE-hn5xy have only used Sony so can’t comment sorry.
@@SteveHowkins no worries, still a great video though. Thanks alot 😊

How can this video not have any comments!! I'm the rightful owner of a Classic Gaggia & finally getting around to modifying it. How did you turn it to 9bars & did you ever install a PID on yours?
depending on the age of your classic there is a screw you turn on the OPV or you replace a spring. No I moved to a different machine before i get around to doing it
Great video's.... I've decided to buy a sage dual boiler but unsure where to get it from I don't really trust sage customer service and they have some great bundle deals on clumsy goat... I'm not sure what to do
No need to worry about customer service coz you wont need it. I have mine for 10years in perfect condition without major issue or maintenance. Just replaced o ring and gasket thats it. Its great machine but somehow underrated imo.
curios how are you counting 28 seconds. on your video it's from 6:55 to 7:18 so only 23.
@@danielrece9775 maybe my mistake. Whatever the screen says after I stop the shot, goes 😂
The or they? 😂 Thanks for the videdo!
I prefer conical, much better espresso than flat one.
what has been your experience? why do you prefer conical? i’m looking for a new grinder with bigger burr. cant decide!
@@Valspartame_Maelstrom i got 64mm flat burr grinder and a 48mm conical grinder, conical one gives better taste, better extraction(atleast to me) and no channeling, you can't go wrong with conical.
@@pouyaedi851 I have the notte grinder (flat/50mm) can’t decide on larger burr grinder 63/64 to get. and i’m not sure i’d be able to really taste the difference I guess between cone/flat anyway .

A bargain £400 😂😂 you must be absolutely loaded .
£400 is not a huge sum of money for a good quality coffee grinder these days. Also £400 is not loaded 😂😂
What is wrong wiyh you there are people who earn 400 in like only with 15 days work. And here you are thinking 400 for a grinder is not loaded. Such a rich douche with no understanding of the 99 % people in world
@@SteveHowkins didn’t say £400 is loaded I said you must be loaded to spend £400 on a grinder.
@@paulgal got you! Still a cheap grinder haha but I get your point. Not everyone has disposable income to spend on luxuries, I appreciate that.
Hi, thanks for the video. Interesting points. I have found that RDT isn't needed (it made no difference to my retention and static) and if you do away with that the issue you mention of beans sticking to the anti-popcorn forks almost disappears completely. Similarly, when adjusting the grind setting it's fine with the grinder off and if it's on then a gentle push of the bellows sorts it out (the noise/tightness) as it's caused by air flow, given how tightly engineered it is - appreciate you don't like bellows. You may also want to remove the adjustment collar if you don't like the look, you don't need it unless you are switching burrs. I used to have a Eureka grinder, so this thing is next level for me!
Now the burrs have settled a little I may grind a few doses without RDT and see what happens. Anything to reduce the workflow is good thing to me. That’s true. Didn’t think it could be the moisture! That’s for the info on the noise. No damage being caused then, excellent. I did think about removing it but then there will be a mark from the grub screw (to be expected) and seeing that will annoy me haha.
@SteveHowkins yeah, the collar doesn't look great but it doesn't bother me really - to your point on the finishing, it's a shame they didn't make the collar or the fixing mechanism a bit cleaner!
@@briantaylor1595 I’m sure I’ve read it was a last minute addition to the grinder so that would explain the slight different finish and securing method. That being said it does the job intended no problem.
1 Key spec that gets overlooked often, specially on "stepless" is the adjustment "intervals". not sure the term, but how minor of a adjustment does it make when you make the least change. Some good ones are at .05 um /micrometer
The adjustment is not specified but to me the thread pitch is quite large so it will not be as small as 5 microns that’s for sure. I have no issues dialling in though.
18grams, 34 seconds...Into a coffee pitcher? lol, WTflat is that cup? Its the size for a pint of beer!! :-) And when you took a sip, I thought you would be digging depp, but NO!, you took a sip right off the rim!!! Thats a gusher mate!!
Which cup are you talking about? The Not Neutral Vero? It’s quite a small cup. Haha got to try all the shots! Not wasting anything in my house 😂
Who in the world wants a harness around their body?
That might be the best grinder for the money period. Pretty crazy…It’s almost like the new df64. I wonder if that will come out to a wider market soon in the US
There are various versions around the world. I’ve seen a different version in Germany and there is the obvious Chinese versions too.
Yes, they have it in the US volts and its $400~ BUT without the SSP burrs. They use a different Italian made burr set.
Is it 4k??
yeah
Tilt screen you mean?
Looks a lot like the df64V, crazy to think it was sub 500. Looking forward to more reviews
Yes very similar, amazing value! Anything you want to see?
@@SteveHowkins if you happen to have a df64v id like a direct comparison between that, or the df lines in general. Also mopre specific to the df64v, the variable rpm compared would be interesting to see as well. Lastly, id like to know if its possible to blindbur mod the grinder in general, considering it has a decent motor. With the df64v, its possible to do a blindburr mod if you drill the side of the carrier and swap the screws for recessed screws from the rear and magnets.
This is almost exactly my set up a year ago. It was how I started doing espresso at home. Shaking the Niche zero is so relatable 😅 But I have changed everything by now 😂
What gear do you have now?
@@SteveHowkins I first upgraded the Niche to Weber Key (massive difference). Then upgraded the BDB to LM Linea Micra. I can go on about other tools but I don’t want to risk boring you 😉
why do you post even though no one is watching these videos? just curious
You watched and even took the time to comment! I guess I should say thank you.
@@SteveHowkins I am not trying to be rude or anything. I have seen a few content creators who would post on various topics even though the views are not high. So just trying to understand how that works. How do you make it worth your time?
Thanks for replying btw :)
@@Mujahed0001 honest answer it isn’t! I don’t make any money but I also don’t buy like some to attract views/followers. I haven’t bought any video equipment I didn’t already own and everything I do a video on is something I was going to buy regardless. I mean a little return would be lovely but I’m not counting on it.
Looks a lot like the DF64 and the many iterations.
Indeed. Same as the df64 looks a lot like the Lagom P64 that came before it. Guess unless you break the mold not many ways it can be done at an affordable price for all.
What settings do you set your camera when using the flex bolt for lightning photography?
I used manual I think.
How come you had to go finer at PP 77 in order to match the shot time at PP87? PP 77 has less pressure, right? slower flow rate? am i missing something? Sorry to bother
Not bothering at all. So the pressure changes but I don’t think the flow rate does. That is dependant on the grind. So at 77 in order to get a 9 bar shot I had to grind finer than at 87 as the machine was doing the work there. If you want 6/7 bar shots then yes use a lower pp and grind the same. All trial and error really. Puck prep and the coffee used make a difference.
@@SteveHowkins got it. Thank you so much
love these videos
Thank you
Thanks, Steve. I learned a lot. Do more videos on a6400 🙂
Hey man, great video. I've been watching your videos about the dual boiler for a while now and I really like them. Ive got one here myself as well and I had a lot of hesitation when It came to opening it up and voiding the warranty. I just wanted to say that if I could give you one piece of advice is just go for it.. .adjusting the OPV to 9bars its extremely easy and once you've done that, you have so much freedom to play around with pre infusion time and pressure before even getting to 9bar full pump pressure... It will open a whole new world for you!! I know voiding the warranty is not ideal but the reality is that if you take good care of your machine, chances are your machine will live way past the warranty period anyway with no issues. regards from Australia.
Yes that’s true. I have thought a few times about it and have watched the videos on how to do it. I’ve probably only got 6 months on the 24 month warranty anyway.
Nice. Maybe the tidy coffee puck is because the 1.7mm puck screen is pressing up against the shower screen thus keeping the coffee puck squished firmly down? ... Also if you like, you could try a bit less coffee when using the thick puck screen. I saw that idea on a forum. Cheers
Yes potentially. I have played around but nothing really changed.
Great video Steve!
Bottomless is only good when you're calibrating your technique or if you're an instagram attention-seeking person. Otherwise, spouted portra will be just fine..
It's a hunk of shit and I am putting it nicely. Now I know why it has been discontinued. It's barely workable on my Nikon Z7II, then when you get it to work it starts to freeze up. There is not a chance of using Flex without failure of some sort. It's not fucking reliable at all. I paid around $400 CDN for it, I didn't even really use it until it was too late to return it. Piss me off. Knowing without a doubt they had to have known It had many issues and still put it out there to sell. I am so pissed off, that if walking into their "head office" was a possibility. I know I would be getting my money back or credit of some sort ! Fuck them !! This was basically a scam.
Thanks so much! Which steamwand are you using?
You’re welcome! I believe it’s a Rancilio Silva. Relatively cheap to purchase too.
Wow, this looks really hard. So many little pieces to unassemble and reassemble again. Thanks for the video. Wish there was a shop I could take mine too so an expert could do it, someone who has all the tools and is good at putting it all together again. I assume I need to clean mine because I have the setting at almost "0" and the grind still isn't fine enough.
This is one of the easiest to clean. How long have you had it and when did you last clean it. I’ve not know anyone have to grind that fine.
@@SteveHowkins It's a used grinder. I've had it for a year, and it's basically loaned to me. I have no idea if the previous owner ever cleaned it. I've never cleaned it, and I use it once a day to make an espresso. I have no tools -- if they came with the Niche, they weren't passed on to me. I'm not a mechanic, so I'm not the sort of person who dismantles engines and knows how to put everything back together again successfully. Assembling IKEA furniture is hard enough! And yes, the grind setting is currently at 7 (out of 50 possible settings) and I think it still might not be fine enough, so the espresso pours in 12 seconds with no crema now. I thought maybe cleaning might help, but I'm afraid I'll be unable to reassemble it. I also tried to recalibrate the Niche without cleaning it, but that made it even worse. Maybe I just need to ask the coffee shop to grind it for me.
@@attitune you only need a 10mm socket (think that’s the correct size) the rest comes out in an easy methodical order. Your shot is too fast unless you’re aiming for a turbo shot (suspect you aren’t).
@@SteveHowkins No, I don't want 12-second espressos. I'm not sure what's wrong. Could be the espresso machine or it could be the grinder or both. I still haven't gotten the courage to try dismantling the grinder. I'm the sort of person who can't even refold a map properly without getting it all bunched up.
@@attitune folding those is difficult though haha
Hi, I’m running into a problem here with my Flex and wondering if you can help. All I can see is the lightning feature in the app and don’t see anything else for options.
Is that apple or android app? I would reach out to them for further troubleshooting. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.
