Sewing Tutorial: Sew a wearable poncho from a throw!
Can I make this with fleece?
I have been looking for a easy poncho to make and yours is the best and easiest to follow. Thank you so much for the video.
Great video thanks. Where to get the replacement button please?
Thanks for the comment glad you found it useful. I order my buttons in bulk, but you can get them from most haberdashery stores, including Amazon and eBay (depending on where you are located) i suggest googling ‘replacement jeans buttons’ and look for the size that the current button is, if you’ve completely lost the original, you can measure the button hole and make sure the button you order is slightly smaller than the button hole. Hope that helps! Sarah
@@s79design Thanks Sarah! Great stuff. Looking at the button which came off, the lip between the edge of the smaller button on the inside of the jeans to the outer is very small and a fail looks inevitable!
Another good Idea for a dogbed. Your explaining is so well, that wie can easy follow your instructions to make this cosy dogbed. I will make this for ma dog. 😊Thank you for this Great Tutorial. I love your Videos. Excuse my englisch, it is Not very good. Best wishes 😊❤
Thank you! And I understood completely, your English is great! Have fun making your dog a cosy bed! I’m sure they will love it! 😊
Ugh I love this pattern but I still don’t fully understand the stitching. Did you use normal stitch on the whole thing? I only know the basics of sewing unfortunately. But I want to try this pattern badly. I have a very basic sewing machine. Do I need to use a normal needing with a normal foot? And regular stitching?
Straight stich on the whole bed? (Not normal sorry)
Morning! And thanks for the comment, yes it’s just normal straight stitch, sorry if I didn’t make that clear, for most lined projects you only need straight stitch and if you want to stop fraying, you can zig-zag stitch over the edges, but it’s not necessary in a project like this as it’s all lined and raw (fraying) seam edges are all on the inside hidden by the lining. You should be fine with a basic machine, just make sure if you’re sewing thick fabric that you up the needle size, a thin one may break when sewing bulky fabric… but do a little test sew on your fabric first and then your good to go 😊 let me know if you need any more help, and happy sewing!! Xx
Thank you for this perfekt Tutorial. This dog bed Looks Great and it is exactly what i am looking for. Best wishes from germany😊
Thanks so much for your comment ☺️I’m pleased you found it useful 🥰
Thanks for the pattern guide i have been looking to do one for ages. Love your cutting mat's can i ask where you had them from please ??
Thanks for the comment! I’m glad you found it useful, I got my interlocking cutting mats from a company called ‘signgeer’ but I’ve just had a look and it looks like they don’t sell the interlocking mats anymore, but they do sell the individual green mats… if you google ‘self healing cutting mats’, you can get them up to A0 size with the grids marked out (which is really useful!) a lot of places sell them and you may find somewhere better for your location x
@@s79design Thanks so much for your reply, I do have a large one on my table but i just loved the way yours interlocked together. I shall hopefully get on and my 2 dog beds very soon, thanks again for your video andI have subscribed !!!!
Great tutorial! Thank you so much! Love the colors and pattern of your bed. 11:13 Showing the tough part of sewing the stuffed part really gives an honest idea of the trickiness. So very appreciated.
Ahhh thank you so much for your message it means a lot! I am trying make ‘real’ tutorials, I teach sewing lessons in person in my studio so try to help as much as possible in my videos! I’m so pleased you found it useful 🥰
Why don’t you give the measurements this is bad presentation…one of the worst in you tube..👎👎👎👎
The explanation is cristal clear and i love her accent ❤
Ahhh thank you so much ☺️
You made that look so easy and I'm glad you said it wasn't 😄 now to give it a go myself...!
Ha ha ahhh thank you for the comment. I’m sure you will be fine making one! Good luck and happy sewing ! 🪡 🧵 😊
Thank you for sharing your expertise! Clear teaching!
Ahhh thank you for the comment, I’m so pleased you found it useful 🥰
Can I ask what is the best material for the red stocking area just would like to practice
Hello! Thanks for your message, if you’re new to sewing, I would suggest something none stretchy, a medium weight cotton would work well, a faux suede is another good choice, velvet looks good but can be tricky if you’re not used to sewing because of the pile, lots of pinning will help… if you are just practicing, you could use an old sheet or pillow case, but these fabrics are not very thick but just to test it out they would be fine. To make a stocking you want to use you can really use any fabric, but avoid anything too stretchy if you’re not used to sewing. Good luck I’m sure you will be fine! Xx
Hello S79. Do you sell the draught excluders?
Hello! I can make you one if you need one, can you drop me a message with size / fabric you would like? I can supply it stuffed or unstuffed
Thankyou for explaining the rule of thumb!.my cushion Covers always turned out to be too big, because I added the hem to the size of the cushion. No one else ever mentioned this...😊 fact..
Ahh thanks so much for the comment and I’m glad u found the video useful 😊😊.. have fun making lots of custom cushions now! 🥰
Hi, great tutorial, thank you. I was wondering if you or anyone had used fabric scraps for stuffing? Ive two big bags of them and would love to find a good use for them
Hi and thanks for the comment ☺️ glad you enjoyed the tutorial.. with regards to using fabric scraps for stuffing, if they are light weight and small, you could try mixing them with some filler, but they won’t be as bouncy as the fibre filling, or you could use them to stuff something more solid where you need a dense form, like a foot stool.. or a door stop.. humm thinking this may be my next tutorial 🤔
Thank you so much for a super video and your talent that you share with us …you are one off the best teachers I found ❤
Ahhh wow thank you so much 🥰🥰
Well done! I used your tips. Thank you very much. You were wonderful. Heather Clark

Hi there, do you perhaps have a video of the Roman blind at the back😊
Hello! Thanks for your comment, I don’t have a video for the Roman blind, but I did make it and they are not difficult, so I will definitely add this to my list of videos to make, I’m starting up again with new videos in September now that bridal and prom season has passed 😅 x
Thank you for the suggestion 😊
I would horribly botch this. That triple line topstitching?! Are you kidding me? BOLD. Bravo you 👏
Ahhhh thank you 😄 I’ve done it loads of time so am well practiced!!!…I’m sure ud be fine….little tip for nice straight lines in the middle of fabric is to draw them first with disappearing chalk (with a pointy edge) or heat erasing pen then stitch over your lines 😄
Brilliant! Thank you so much! Great video and appreciate the info on how to draft our own pattern! This has made a new subscriber out of me! Thank you! Happy sewing! And I too, greatly appreciate not having any background music :) Thank you for that!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment 🥰 I’m glad you found the video useful! It’s been a little while since I uploaded a video due to being so so busy in my sewing studio, but at last things are quietening down so more videos will come soon! Thanks so much for subscribing 🥰🥰
Hi there, thank you for this tutorial. I’m just checking - for the rectangular pattern piece that forms the sides of the dog bed that is cut on the fold, won’t the pattern need to be : length = 1/2 circumference + 1 inch? Since it’s cut on the fold, otherwise it would end up being 2x circumference length + 1 inch? I’ve watched this section and when planning my pattern I got a bit confused here 🙈 thanks
Hello and thanks for your message! It’s been a while since I made the video and I can’t remember what I said without watching it through again, but to clarify yes you are right the total length should be of the rectangle (no folds) Should be the circumference +1” so if you are doing half the pattern ( to make life easier) then yes it should be 1/2 circumference + 1” with the front edge (on mine I think it’s the edge I lowered) being cut on the fold so that your joining seam is at the back. I hope this makes sense to you, please let me know if not! I’m always happy to help ☺️
Beautiful fabrics. I'm glad I found your channel. You seem like a master of your craft and like you love it. ❤
Thank you. This was so easy to follow and my stockings came out beautifully.
Ahh fantastic 🤩! So pleased you enjoyed the tutorial and that you now have some beautiful stockings! Thanks so much for the message xx
I’m so thankful for kind people like you that share your knowledge! I’m going to try and save my favorite jeans.
Ahh you are very welcome and I hope the video is useful! I do hope to be bringing more content now that the bridal and prom season is coming to an end!
Thank you so much for making this video! I was going to drive across town to have someone do this on a pair of jeans but I think I can do it myself!
Fantastic! Good luck, I’m sure you will fix them fine xx
Beautifully made and such clear instructions and all with none of that annoying music. ❤️❤️❤️
Ahh thank you so much! I’m not a fan of the annoying music either lol, I experimented with it in a couple of my videos but just found it annoying too! Appreciate the feedback 😊

So slooooooow i had to speed it up 2x..! 😂 But ok
😂😂 I do know what you mean.. but at least you can speed up or skip.. some people like it explained slowly… just trying to find the balance lol.. anyway thanks for the comment it all helps me make the videos better 👍👍☺️
I cannot find the removable blanket video😢
Yes I’m really sorry about that.. the video corrupted some how so I still need to remake it! Now things are getting quieter in my studio I’ll be doing more videos and will definitely remake!
@@s79design I will be looking for it. I pray it will be soon. Thank You 😊
Thank You. I am inspired to make one for my German Shepherd Dog ❤️
Ahhh thank you ☺️ I hope you do get chance to give it a try! I’ve been sent some fabulous pictures of some beds people have made for larger dogs using this tutorial! Xx
Do you need a heavy duty machine to work with the fleece?
Hi and thanks for the comment, a standard domestic sewing machine should be fine to sew fleece, and I have successfully sewn fleece on my domestic machine many times. Obviously not knowing your machine, I would recommend ordering a sample to test first, this will help ensure the settings are right (the correct needle, stitch length and tension) and that your machine can sew the fabric.
Thanks so much! I have all my supplies assembled and am ready to tackle this project for my doggo.
Fantastic! Im sure your doggo will love the new bed! Happy sewing 🪡🪡
Great instructions. Thank you!
You’re welcome ☺️ glad you enjoyed it x
Great vido, thanks. Going to give it a go tomorrow
Ooh fab! Thanks for the comment and Happy sewing! 🧵🪡 😊
If you put a zip on the insert, you can put your hand in there to be able to tell when the stuffing is dry because you should occasionally wash the insert. Ofcourse, if you’ve filled it with blankets and towels, etc., you’ll have to take them out and launder them separately. Personally, I only have fluffy fabric for my dogs in the winter.
Why this type of t shirt not available in market😢
I’m not sure.. I bought this one from a charity shop for the purpose of making the video and then re donated as my son is 18 and it would never fit him! But you can add sleeves to any T-shirt ☺️
🐴💩
Great tutorial, thanks. Can I ask if you remember roughly how much fibre-fill you used (no idea how much to order!)
Ahhh good question and one I’m afraid I can’t answer 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️! I have big bags of it for various projects and don’t actually remember how much I used, plus it also depends on the size of the bed you are making… I would order more than you think you need (I know that’s not much help) but I find I always use more to make it padded enough to allow it to stay full when your dog lies on it x
Your tutorials are very easy to follow and I'm so glad I can make my bulldog a coat now. I haven't been able to find a coat that accommodates her barrel chest that isn't like $70, so thank you!!
Ahh you’re very welcome! Thank you for your comment, that’s the problem we had with our well built Frenchie 😂 I’m sure your bulldog will love her coat 🥰
having this video first pop up to my question, say seamstress accidentally made a long sleeve into short sleeves, is there anyway to revert it? most likely not i just loved that shirt😭
Oh no! You can revert it, but the sleeves will be a little shorter, because you will have to join the old part of the sleeve back on, you can attach it in a similar way to this video, keep your seam allowance as small as possible to avoid it becoming too short…. Or you could put a little contrast strip around the part it was cut off to join the sleeve back on… without seeing the shirt, I’m guessing in the dark, but if it’s more of a blouse, you could buy a lace joining strip inc or a ruffle at the seam, if it’s more of a t-shirt, then you could use a contrast colour t-shirt to create a stripe around… Hope I’m making sense?! Feel free to contact me by email if you need any other help?
Thank you so much for sharing. I am going to try making one for my fur baby😊
Ahhh thanks for the comment! I’m sure your fur baby will love it 🐶 xxx
This video just showed me how little I know about sewing. I didn't even know you could sew sleeves by removing that cover piece, and I also had bo idea there were such thing as stretch needles. I shall be buying some as I want to add sleeves to a t shirt. Thank you!
Ahhh you are welcome! I’m glad you found the video useful ☺️ have fun sewing!
Hi Mary I was looking for some advice, is it possible to add either elastic or a piece of material to allow me an extra 4 inches on the waistband. I've been to two shops and they both said it can't be done but having watched you I was wondering what you thought. Anne Marie
Hi and apologies for the delay in replying! Yes you can extend the waistband with panels, without seeing the trousers it’s hard to say for sure, but off the top of my head if it’s 4” extra then I would suggest a 2” either side in the waistband with a triangular panel blending out into the leg (over the hips). If want to drop me an email or message with pictures of the trousers, I can advise more accurately 😊
I have done this alteration for several of my customers x
Exceptional! Many thanks!!
Thank you so much!
