Did that actually solve the problem? Did the power steering ever fail again after this video? I am currently dealing with the same issue.

For the error code you're talking about I was able to fix it by changing the PCV valve, I had the same error coming in an out for about 2 years and after research someone suggested to change the valve and I did that and the Engine light turned off and I haven't had that code again.

Hi, I have the same problem with my 2010 Passat CC. After each long drive - shaking steering wheel and power steering malfunctioned. In my main fuse box, there isn't that multi-fuse like at your Tiguan, but just a simple ''single'' 80A fuse for power steering. However, it looks in good condition. Was your power steering fuse damaged or you just tried? Is there any other fuse, which can influence the power steering, or just that one?

So when you lay the bead of gasketmaker, let the pan sit for about 10min so it starts to harden, then torque to spec as usual.

having the same issue with my 2016 tiguan. I still drive it and just periodically put the car in N, turn it off, turn it on, and after a few miles the power steering will come back on. its annoying though. The dealership wanted to charge me $4500 to fix it.

having the same issue for about a month now. 2016 tiguan. The dealership said its a $4500 issue. I still drive it and the power steering seems to be fine at night and in the morning. Maybe the Texas heat has something to do with it.

I watched another you tube video where the person cut a craftsman spark plug socket down 1.25 inches with a slight angle and used a 3/8 to 1/4 reducer so he could use a 1/4 inch wobble extension. It gave him more to rotate the sensor for removal and installation. He got the sensor out without removing the intake manifold. I am not sure I trust my luck not to damage the connector the way he did it. Both the videos are good. Thank You

  • @paulr2389

Umm, Alonzo, Hope you still have the E30. Great car! You're certainly showing as a novice, though. If it's only at idle (umm, and not bad bottom-end noises), it's not likely the AFM, etc. If it's rough, and not regular, it's likely not valves or electrical either. I hope your E30's AFM (L-jetronic) has not been "jimmied up" by some fool. Idle issues are either vacuum leaks, possibly crank shaft sensors (plural), maybe idle switch (under the throttle-body butterfly), but very likely just a clogged ICV (idle control valve). If it's ICV, a simple cleaning/light-lube can do wonders. Also worth taking to a *good* shop for a look-see.

Check for continuity across the fuse for the electric power steering first. Check connections to the steering rack (you can google it), check any ground straps for good connection.

That stupid sensor/thermostat! When the sensor cant read, the computer thinks it is too cold and thinks the steering grease is thick and that's why "steering assist is reduced". I'm starting with the sensor first and hope it is not the thermostat!
