Ah perfume, the book that probably haunted many Germans in school xD We watched the movie in german class at the end of 11. Grade to analyse how a movie translates descriptions of smell into video format. I didn't like the movie but devoured the book. Maybe it's time for a reread. I think you might also enjoy Die Häupter meiner Lieben (or Head Count in English) by Ingrid Noll. It's another german classic that has comedy, murder and lots of morally grey women.
