Terry Riley In C
The Terry Riley In C Challenge
As the whole world are having lockdowns and performances cancelled, we musicians miss playing with other fellow musicians.
Everytime when I performed Riley’s In C, it feels like time had stopped and an hour passes feeling like 5 minutes. As we are all stressed in this hard time, let us sit back and play this meditative masterpiece at home to free your mind and soul!
Members of Ensemble Traversée and I have already recorded a track where you can listen to while you play so that you can feel like you are performing with people in real time. Record yourself playing it and upload it online to your favourite file sharing platform and send it to vic225@gmail.com so that we can add your video to build the performance larger and larger. After that, you can ask your friends to do it too and let us make the largest In C performance ever!
Performers in this video:
Violin: Kitty Cheung
Flute: Izumi Chloe Nikaido
Clarinet: Clarice Pang
Double Bass: Simon Hui
Percussion: Vicky Shin
P.S: This performance is based on the original version of In C, without the constant beat going on in the background. This gives more freedom in the tempi while playing the different phrases!

The best song I've ever heard
👍
……
Keep up the great work!!! You deserve more views. Do you know of SMZeus . c o m!?? I think it would really help you grow your channel.
Bravo! Very beautiful performance of this interesting piece - sometimes eerie but always poetic!
Ennah08 thanks!!
You play very well but it's really too slow … P.Hurel
La triangulation exacte de Debussy, Carter et Part. Bravo pour la direction très fluide et la richesse des couleurs!
Merci!
I have to play the whole piece on timpani, and I'm a senior in high school.... wish me luck!
Who's on drum? He sucks!
Good job conducting the piece, especially the 2nd part.
fantastic ensemble and performance! the blending wasn't the best but i think that was due to the recording positions, not the ensemble itself. otherwise very well played!!
beautiful
Blehhh who cares about tradition? Boring loser.
Blehhh who cares about tradition? Boring loser.
IF you're really that great, why spend your time commenting on some "retarded" performance on youtube and pretending like a professional? Show us what you've got!
*insert Asian joke here*
some timpani have tuning gauges
seria posible tener acceso a la patitura?
excelente trabajo me encanto!
I'm so excited to co-conduct this piece!
dood! where are u getting these videos? I want I want!
@Timpani4ever First, I am an American but my familiename ist Fischer. I have a great deal of pride in the German Nation and People- but- I spent many years as an international Airline Pilot and was able to visit percussionists all over the world. We are all more alike than we are different. We all do it Our Way and out of that comes innovation and out of that comes art. Let's don't stifle that....
Bravisssssssiiiiiiiimmmmooooooooooo
@Tragicrach it's bravissimo... haha... natalie said that.. haha
Cool~~ Barvo!!
A great concert and performance ^^ You know where I can get the score of this concerto?? Thanks :D
@vic225 So... where can I buy that full band set version? I need to play some concertos next year and I liked this one!!
Where can I buy this music (sheet)? I wanna play it!!! by the way, congratulations! you play it very well!
why dun I rmb we played this before??? (stunning)
Very nice :)
Is very nice!, please tell me where can I get this arrangement, is on sale? please tell me. Thank you!
As a non-percussionist, I'm wondering why you aren't checking pitches with your ear to the drumhead. It looks like you have time in certain places but choose not to. Are you that confident in your ability to precisely pedal tune?
what is this?! play the music! -__-
Nicely played vic225, I enjoyed it. I'm not quite sure why your video brought out so much hate, but I suppose one should expect nothing less from youtube. Frankly, I wouldn't care if you played the piece suspended from the ceiling by rope so long as it sounded good. Don't mind the trolls who start trivial arguments, just ignore them. The only reason they're arguing on the internet is because no one will put up with them in person.
beautiful
Losers. We don't want symphonies in ever town. That's super lame and only fun if you're a boring dentist and lawyers playing in it. German is such a lame place. Holland is way way better...better food, nicer people, better timpanist. USA! USA!
Yeah that's really cool. Symphony orchestras in every town. We have rock n roll bands in every town. Not a lame bunch of lawyers and docters who come together once a week and struggle through beethoven's 7th. Germany sucks at everything but Porsches
Idk man. Pretty sure Germans should stick to playing drums for Polka bands in lederhosen and stay away from timpani altogether. American's only pay lots of money for workshops because we pity you guys and we are super rich. It's charity because we feel bad, we don't actually take you guys seriously. Lemme re-phrase my argument...U-S-A! U-S-A! USA! USA!
Germany sucks at timpani....USA ! USA! USA!
Wow - it's beautiful, but what's the piece called and who's the composer? I'd like to find some more music in this style!! Thanx a million for the vid!
Great Vid. I just LOVE tan dun.. does anybody ever heard teh Water Passion? if so, can somebody post it? it will b great to c a vid of the Water Passion....
Nicely done.
i like this, pretty cool but i have to say i was a bit set off by the 'listen! to the sounds of water! Isn't it wonderful?" part... goood show tho~!
nice sound vicky!!!
well although its beautiful you are right...
In fact, Dun composed a Water Concerto. I think everybody can enjoy this work.
Is Tan Dun from Seattle?
This is pretty nice, i feel relaxed listening to this, cause i love watter, sitting in a little river having water fall down on your head, ... and that sound... its just like a massage. I like that guy.
Many congratulations to composer Yiu-Kwong Chung for his marvellous work
Hey this is experimental stuff. I see the reference. I enjoyed it! The water is quite applicable in this instance.
