For anyone interested, one of the biggest reasons this song has such a sad atmosphere is the minor plagal cadence at 0:23. If any musicians out there don't know what I'm talking about, I highly recommend looking up "minor plagal cadence." It's not always useful, but when used right it's a freaking INCREDIBLE songwriting tool.

My god. I just realized that 0:14 - 0:30 is just a twisted version of the main leitmotif from Bowser’s own theme (compare the above with the fifth song in the description’s playlist, specifically 0:12-0:26 of that track). I played this as a kid. I’ve heard both of these tracks countless times over the years. Yet only now, listening to this in the background, did I finally notice this. The tones are just off enough that it wasn’t immediately obvious, but there’s no mistaking the underlying melody.

Frankly I think this would be a good introduction to a metal album.

I didn't mind waiting for Bowser's pain to go away but I didn't enjoy the music very much although this could inspire a metalhead to come up with a heavy slamming riff on guitar. But for some reason this music made me depressed because of what Bowser went through.

Awesome to see recent interaction, almost as if a feeling swept over a whole generation of kids, compelling them to return to the game... I beat the game for the first time today after 15 years...
