How do I know if it’s match zone or drop zone?
We usually watch the eyes of the underneath coverage. Are they watching the wr or running to a spot.
Pat Murphy!!! The OG! Great job Coach! Love this offense! See you in Stockdale Texas in the spring of ‘25🤘
Yes sir. Excited to get to Texas!
Hey, can you go over the Ricky and Lucy calls and what defensive tackles need to do and when to move when it’s called
For us that is a 2 gap stunt on the back side.
I see you speaking at the Mississippi Association of Coaches Clinic this week. I’m a retired coach love your videos & your approach to coaching ! I got a friend who’s coaching & will be there ! I told him to seek you out & get pic made ! They have a good lineup of speakers! Ok thanks Coach Simpson !
Thank you coach!
@@kennysimpson6282 my friend just sent pic of you & him so thanks Coach Simpson !
Oops sorry coach the pic my friend sent was with coach of West Jones HS in MS - y’all look alike !
Thank you coaches. Great pod!
I listened to this right after I interviewed and hired our 5th coach on our staff. I checked all the boxes and even stated he wants to move on to a head coaching job and wants to start somewhere. All of this was started at my daughters softball teams cookout when a fellow father struck up a conversation! Anyway, great podcast at the perfect time. Your videos and your responses to my emails have shaped me as a coach to be a beacon in our community. Kenny, like i said last year, I believe I am developing an Arkansas accent with the amount of content of yours I consume with these podcasts! Thank you guys
I feel like this is what Mike McDonald did with the Ravens defense
Nice job and well told!
You should have touth coaches on that runs the Gun T and have a lot of questions pertaining to the system.
Love this. Keep it coming coaches💪
Thanks coach
This stuff is underrated! So important!!!
Thank you
1st
Coach I want to see you guys play teams in South Florida. Like Central, Northwestern, Norland, Columbus, St. Thomas, or IMG. I would like to see how that offense works vs D1 high school players who are big fast and can hit.
I'd imagine if you had the same players on offense it would look the same as it does now...
I was just curious how it would look. We don't see that type of offense down here in South Florida. Maybe you should call those schools and have a friendly challenge. Maybe you could introduce that type of offense down here.
This right here is pure gold! So many gems. Thank you both gentlemen for doing this and sharing your time and knowledge. Can’t wait to retire from the Marines and be an AST coach. Semper Fi
Thanks for the support
Can you explain Rock/Load
That is our play action pass pro - rock is right and load is left
Offensively - Pass game wise - Tags - Does the Tag change the read for the QB?
It does for us.
Im here for this...lets gooo!!
KISS Ideology - Keep It Simple Stupid - I am a BIG Fan of simply Tagging players to change the look for the defense while virtually running all the same stuff.
Thanks coach. It has helped us
You should bring these series back to UA-cam coach.
Love this stuff. Thanks coach.
Sounds like, Zone=high risk high reward, and gap= low risk low reward
Great insight but I need visuals, please 🙏🏽
Feel free to search the channel - we have several OL videos
Coach what can a center do to stop from getting blown up by a strong nose tackle
Our main goal would be to know where to "turn" him or which direction we want to create a seal.
Great convo. Notebook is getting full of notes!
Hey Coach, What are your aiming points on interior blitzes or one coming under on a stunt, (like if 2 are coming off the edge?
We become inside hip of the ball carrier
Epic
Always love your content coach, but calling it 15-17 an wpic fail for an organization that has been very average for the better part of 30 years sounds like a sour grapes fans take.
Whats the rule for the B back? Is it Gap Down Backer? Or is the B focused on the edge?
His is gap-down-backer also
You are timing these uploads perfect Coach! Always with the good stuff right when I need it. Appreciate all you do
Thanks for the support!
how do you deal with a defender that is head up on a player that is supposed to down block? does he have the head up defender or is that responsibility for the next down blocker?
We would not block that defender as the player outside of us would take him.
"it takes 3 days to lose top speed..." AWESOME! any idea where I can find this study? I want to reference it

Just the pod i needed for spring ball! keep up the great stuff coaches
Thanks coach! Good luck.
Great breakdown Coach….Your content is top notch…
Thanks coach for your support
Caleb Davis- Old Plank Christian Academy, Jacksonville, FL. Very small school
Do it in middle school combined with GT Cntr 3 years undefeated.
For Gap Down Backer, I never understood what they do if a defender is heads up on him. Is that defender your teammate outside of yous responsibility? Or is man the first rule? Thanks coach
We do not block guys head up us if our rule is gap-down-backer
Thank you
what about in texas? when can we cut block and who can we cut block
Great coaching! Smart, undersized guys could really benefit from understanding this concept instead of just "work harder" versus someone 50+ pounds bigger.
Thank you coach!
You're videos from years ago are still relevant even now.
Thank you guys for sharing this!!
Glad you enjoyed
Coach, is it possible to RPO the playside ILB who is blitzing & have either the wing (or TE) step down like he's blocking for the first few steps but catch the pass similar to peak on the backside? Thanks
Yes it would - would need to be aware of the Safety
Any suggestions for how to simplify for A) 5th grade, and B) even more simple for 3rd/4th grade. Obviously, fewer sets, less pulling and less passing, but anything else?
Usually we would limit reads for the QB, limit formations and may limit or eliminate pulling depending on the age. But other than that we see what they can do.
Than You. Coach Simpson. Best and prescise explanation of offence types I have ever heard. Very clear & helpful. The modern day zone scheme is very food, but I grew up in the, gap system. Early zone blocing schemes were too simple, thus useless. Current day zone schemes are very well designed,. Thanks again for explaining these difference to a long time footballer. Good joh, keep up the good wor, .. Iyou are organized and clear; the chariteric that make a coach great - LK.
Good stuff ,Fellas!!! Thank you so much for sharing!
I'll always feel like worst-case scenario prep is like insurance. You hope you never need it, but when you do you're glad you have it.
Yes - always prep for worst case imo
Awesome!
Great video good content
Thanks for watching
I run the wing T with my youth team and am looking to install some zone blocking scheme this year now that they are older and more experienced. Have you incorporated zone blocking into your standard plays? For example, we run a 24 power with the FB lead blocking (we use "power" to let the kids now there is a lead blocker) and it seems to me you can use zone blocking even though the play is designed for a specific gap. Or would this just simply an inside zone play call?
Usually zone is not with a designated hole, they would need to read the gap that opens up.
Great video!
