The Louisiana Folklore Society was founded in 1956 to encourage the study, documentation, and accurate representation of the traditional cultures of Louisiana. Our members include university professors, professional folklorists in the public sector, secondary school teachers, museum workers, graduate students, and other individuals interested in Louisiana’s traditions and cultural groups.

Title: “Finding Balance in Our Shifting Landscapes”
This presentation explores how communities can foster resilience and healing in the face of ongoing change & adversity. By leveraging trauma-sensitive, somatic-based practices and collective approaches, we can cultivate balance, connection, and adaptability in a moving world.

The Louisiana Folklore Society offers these gatherings to share perspectives on the human dimension of coastal land loss. In partnership with the Center for Bayou Studies at Nicholls State Univ. and the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center, the Bayou Culture Gatherings are supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Louisiana Division of the Arts, the Office of Cultural Development and the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, and the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program.

I felt the same way when the lumber companies came in and clear cut all the beautiful hard wood and Virgin Pine Along the Bayou on and near our Farm in g Prairie. All those times as a young boy I walked the bayou and my gosh the woods were like a friend. When the cut the Forrest my friend had gone died 😢 It was tragic. I know it’s somewhat different but a similar visceral experience
