    Thanks so much for this tutorial! I’ve made several blankets using squares but this shape gives a really interesting look. I’m making mine using a mid grey border which gives a sort of stained glass effect! I’ve made a slight adaptation to the triangles by using the same colour pattern as the square, which keeps the colour pattern the same, and also made quarter triangles for the 4 corners of the blanket. The joining method was tricky to master, but I stuck at it, and the cable effect really adds a great look.

    I had just thought a day or two ago of looking up some sort of Sunburst or Starburst type granny square to put in the middle of a log cabin blanket dreamt up to crochet. AS a quilter, I had always heard that the legend of the Log Cabin - a true origin Log Cabin - design was that it always had a red or reddish orange block in the center to represent the Hearth or Heart of the home;a fire being very welcoming, even healing, life-giving. I also wondered if there was perhaps a red, orange and yellow variegated yarn, and because I am such an avid YT watcher I found both. I am going to use your pattern (or part of it) with the red, orange and yellow yarn to be the flickering flames of firelight in my hearth! I am going to do the Daylight and Dark, or maybe it's called Light and Shadow, version of the many that're called Log Cabin designs.

    I hate the bates bc of how blunt the tips are. I learned on Boye. Like most of us (older gals), they hurt my hands and I can’t use for long. I tried addi knock-offs, bc reviews said they have a swing that makes them faster…idk I couldn’t figure them out. I got cheap ‘ergonomic’ hooks from Amazon but so many had Burris on them that it would snag the yarn and had a lot of drag. I found eBay seller selling the 10pc set for $30 several yrs ago. I started playing w as soon as came in. I was like…omgosh these things are heaven!! Brushed hooks slide through any yarn like butter!!! They are simply heaven! And if you can find at cheaper price a def steal!! I then got the larger plastics, same! Best of all NO SQUEEK from yarn! Then got the steel hooks which are so nice if you’ve ever used the plain steel hooks - def old ones are hand killers! I’ve bought multiple sets! Absolutely love, love, love the ‘hot knife through butter’ feel and speed with which they go through yarn…doesn’t matter the material or project! Can’t recommend them enough! I’ve had the Denise Tunisian set but we had a house fire and I’ve not seen them since. I’d like to try the odyssey or the aluminum set bc of my carpel tunnel, thinking the weight would help, but the price…I know they take a lot to make, are inspected by hand, etc…idk just can’t pull trigger on $26-40/hook! But I’m cheap anyway, lol Edit: the one thing about clover is that they are color coded, so once you become familiar with them you will know size from memory…5mm=blue, 5.5mm=green, 6mm=brown, etc…and the size is stamped into the handle so you don’t lose the sticker and have to pull out the sizing bell (the sizing tool used during Victorian era to give standardized hook sizes as patters were beginning to be shared), to figure out the size hook needed for your project.

    Love the colors of the 1st project you're working on. What yarn & colors, and what size hook did you use?

    • @CrochetTutorials11
      @CrochetTutorials11 7 місяців тому

      The yarn is 4 Seasons Marvel Denim Effect (12ply). There's a fairly limited colour range - and they go by numbers not names, - but there is a dark blue and light blue a red and a pink and a dark grey and light gray. I believe there is two green colours too. This yarn is really lovely and soft and even though it's 12 ply, it's not super thick. It's about the same as a worsted weight, maybe a tiny bit thicker. I tend to use a 4mm hook with it, because I do like the denser stitch. Thanks for watching.

    Clovers are worth it in my opinion. I love them. They work for me - they shave minutes off of my rows because they are so smooth - I fly through the stitches. Tulips are nice- but I compared the same size back to back on a project I am currently working on, and I felt just a tad bit more friction with the tulip etimo red hook that I have. Not much… but noticed it. Went back to my clover ❤
